Beach party in Laguna Beach began directly in my line of vision. Armed with my sketchbook and a few pencils, pastels and erasers, I began an art project. Within a few moments, I had some spectators with broad smiles lighting up their cheerful faces. One young lady, breathing heavily over my rugged shoulder whispered about how nice the sketch was coming along. "Thanks," I responded. "But if you will, take a few pounds off my hips," she requested. "I'm actually on a diet, so give me a free pass on my diet, okay?" I nodded. "Sure, no problem," I smiled and the deed was done.
Fairground food signs continue… this time, Ice Cream! 18.75 x 26.25”, enamel/acrylic paint on paper.
I got the idea to paint food signs when I moved to Minneapolis, MN in the winter of 2021. Not just any type of food signs, but food signs normally associated with fairgrounds, rodeos, state-fairs, circuses, etc. Deep-fried, sweet, savory goodness… not exactly nutritious, but undeniably satisfying! Is it nostalgic? Is this artistic direction the result of lockdown fatigue? Or… maybe it's just a sign?
Found this old school dairy bar on ... uh.. I think route 19.
It's still open, we ate there. The milkshake was good and the fries were excellent and very crispy.
There's a Cree-Mee-Dip that wasn't so lucky.. I'll have to go back for a pic of that. :p
Brad asked me to describe my surroundings. He got pretty excited when I told him there was an ice cream truck.

From 8 blood oranges I made juice, 6 mini loaves of orange-cranberry bread, candied peels, fruit leather and orange syrup.
Pretty amazing, huh?
No wonder obesity is rampede in children, just look at the SIZE of that ice cream and it's demanding that the poor kid "EAT-IT-ALL". What the hell are we teaching our children, anyway?
I guess I should be happy that it's not deep-fried cheesecake.
