I had seen this camera online in a battered state previously and it had caught my eye because of its black painted top housing.

More recently I noticed that a contact had obtained it as part of a job lot that he had bought and he very kindly agreed to send it my way for a reasonable price.

I gave it a full strip down and rebuild. I built on it's existing black colour scheme with the addition of black-painted edges and black plastic bottom fittings. I also painted the flash shoe.

Fitting the black plastic lever to a Retina is NOT straightforward as you need to channel out a groove in the underside of the lever to take the guide/stop pin.

I wasn't happy with the shiny look of the top housing once repainted/touched in so i decided to give it a layer of matte-coat varnish.

The camera also required a new rack and lightmeter (which was coloured to match the top housing).

I think it looks rather EVIL!

Once upon a time, and to some extent still so today, a bus chassis would be made in one factory and then driven to another coachbuilding site, potentially hundreds of miles away. They would be driven there by hardy individuals, wrapped up in a trench coat with goggles and a flat cap, and expected to drive acrss country (no motorways then) in rain, hail or shine.

It doesn't really happen that way any more. But it wasn't really because some factory inspector had condemned the practice, but for far more practical reasons. First, it wasn't unknown for a chassis to collect a minor bump on the way, needing repair before bodybuilding could even begin. Secondly, it's more efficient to put a city bus (top speed: 40 mph) on a trailer (top speed: 56 mph or more) and possibly even fit two or three chassis on the trailer.

And the third and biggest reason is that buses have changed in design, to be more 'semi-intergal' with the body that will be placed on it. What this means is that bus chassis were once extremely rigid, over-engineered and capable of taking anything that a road could throw at it just on its own. But this isn't needed: it will spend 99% of its life with a body attached, and it's lighter and cheaper to allow the body to help with the rigidity like a box being stronger if all sides are present.

So bus chassis are nowadays less able to support themseles - they're actually stronger when integrated into the full finished bodywork. It's simply not possible to drive them hundreds of miles as bare chassis - they not as strong as they will be when the body is fitted.

This has been the case for a while - and here's an example. This picture shows a Leyland 'Olympian' chassis arriving at the Northern Counties body factory on the outskirts of Wigan. It'll have a body fitted and then it will be supplied to Greater Manchester Transport. If you look closely you can see a bracing strut near the rear wheel to make it strong enough to transport - this would be removed later..

If you want to see what the finished bus looked like, there's a photo of one in the comments below. And you can also see one at the Museum of Transport, where GMT Olympian 3065 is fully restored and on display.

Two tabletop pump solvent dispensers. These allow you to moisten a swab or cloth with just the amount you need and keep any annoying and/or hazardous fumes to a minimum. The one on the left has a latch to lock the pump head for transportation, but does not have the little mushroom-shaped nozzle on the right-hand one to prevent any contaminated fluid from possibly draining back into the bottle.

The one on the right came imprinted with the chemical name, accompanied by an NFPA 704 hazard symbol rating the substance's degree of health, fire, and reactivity danger on a scale of zero (no risk) to four (high), plus specific hazards as required in the bottom quadrant. The symbol is intended to inform firefighters how to best prepare for and handle fires, minimizing any danger to crew.

As a boy growing up, you kind of get used to the fact that your Dad is going to be there to bail you out. Whether it’s a stand off in the street with the nasty boy (when you utter the immortal words, “My Dad’s bigger than your dad!”), or when you feel afraid in a massive crowd and need rescued (I still vividly remember when my Dad took me to my first international match at Windsor Park, when he hoisted me up onto his shoulders when I panicked in the midst of the crowd as we filed out onto the streets afterwards).

But no matter how grown up you may get yourself, even if you become a dad for your own wee people, there are still times when no one but your own Dad can step into the breech for you, as I was fully reminded of last Friday night.

It all started when I managed to grab 1½ hours to drop in to Belfast to get a shot of the new sign that has recently been placed outside Belfast’s new Titanic Museum. I called my Dad to see if he wanted to come, and we set off together to see what we could get.

When we arrived in front of the Museum, the sign was there alright – but sadly behind those ubiquitous security fences. The place is, technically, still a building site, and ‘ealth ‘n’ safety requirements demand that it be sealed off. I thought of how I might shoot through the fence, but the gaps were too small and would have ruined the shot.

Then I happened to glimpse a open fire escape staircase on the side of the old Harland and Wolff Drawing Offices (where the Titanic herself was designed). There, if ever there was one, was a vantage point! So off I set, calling out over my shoulder to Dad to distract anyone who might arrive to tell me to get down.

No sooner had I climbed the stairs and set up the tripod, than Mr Hi-Vis-Jacket wandered over by the sign in front of the museum. ‘Oh no,’ I thought, ‘I’m scooped!’ But he didn’t seem to notice me – in fact, he was looking over to something that seemed to be behind me. And I turned, following his stare, to see two foot patrol police approaching to talk to him. ‘What?’ I thought to myself. ‘He’s called the police?!? I’m really in big trouble now!’ (they're still there in the shot, at the bottom left).

And that’s when Dad stepped in.

Seasoned pro that he is, he intuitively knew what to do to protect his son. He casually wandered over the assembled group and engaged them in conversation, charming them with the warmth of his conversation (I've always been amazed at how easily Dad can make conversation with strangers - I wish I had half his ability in this area). But, most importantly, he gave them something on ground level on which to focus! With such cover in place, I quickly finished grabbing my shots for my panoramic of the building, quietly came down the stairs, and nonchalantly joined the group for the end of a pleasant conversation about the trials and tribulations of being a community police man when you have to wander round the Titanic Museum as part of your beat.

I guess you’re never too old for your Dad to have your back.

No matter what you've done wrong, always try to make it look like the dog did it!

Cats do make it better. Looking back 9 years ago when I took this picture of Ranger. M takes great photos but I sometimes do as well. lol, Love this one.😻♥️

When I look in your eyes...

I see the wisdom of the world in your eyes

I see the sadness of a thousand goodbyes

When I look in your eyes

And it is no surprise

To see the softness of the moon in your eyes

The gentle sparkle of the stars in the skies

When I look in your eyes

In your eyes

I see the deepness of the sea

I see the deepness of the love

The love I feel you feel for me

Autumn comes, summer dies

I see the passing of the years in your eyes

And when we part there'll be no tears, no good-byes

I'll just look into your eyes

Those eyes, so wise, so warm, so real

Isn't it a pity your a seal.

10/02/18 #1867. Proper Rally weather for the South Down Stages at Goodwood today.

Taken from the pits shortly after the start of one of the stages, a course set-up around the circuit. Shortly after this, everyone was asked to move because of 'ealth & safety :-(

Taken during the winter of 1966-7, I remember capturing this photograph as if it were yesterday. My father had promised me the use of his trusty Rolleiflex and my mum, brother and I trooped off around the 'Manor', looking for a shot.

In the far distance, the roof of Northfield Manor House can just be glimpsed. * The building conveniently burnt down a few years ago (2014) to make way for yet more executive housing . If I had turned a few degrees to the right, the Cadbury barn would have come into view, built in 1895 and burnt down in an arson attack in July 2017. The boathouse can be seen in the distant centre of the photograph, and yes, if you're picking up on a pattern....

Those of you who want to get ahead of the game and find out what might mysteriously burn down next, can look at the comments on b31.org.uk/2020/11/last-chance-to-comment-on-king-george-...

(esp. the comment from Zola and I quote ...'Call me a cynic, but I wouldn’t be surprised if a “mysterious fire” should burn the place down, thus making any future planning app an easier process.

Obviously the “mysterious fire” events for “awkward” planning applications at the Cock Inn pub and North Worcester golf club house have absolutely no bearing on my cynicism'.)

In the early 1960s, the Birmingham Parks Police** had offices and kennels (they kept about eight to ten dogs, mostly alsatians and I think the odd doberman and rottweiler ) next to the barn. The 'Parkies' were for the most part, vigilant, friendly, and approachable, unlike their canine charges, a couple of which were just surly, the rest extremely vicious. I'm not sure how the dogs were recruited, but I am sure it wasn't from a petting corner.

The upshot was that the 'Parkies' kept the Parks safe, clean and tidy, as very few failed to heed the warning 'you get one more chance to clear off or I'm going to let the dog off the leash' .I know the ''ealth-and-safety' and social worker brigade will be aghast, but it worked.

Friday, July, 16th. I'm staying at my grandparents' house during the beginning of my working experience and today my grandpa took a box out of a cupboard and show me this camera he brought in Paris in 1981.

Awesome camera that looks like a Nikon FM2 with 4 fixed focals lens in good ealth with no scratches but some mushrooms inside some lens due to the long storage in the dark and the moisture...

But damn that's an awesome gift for me, I'm so proud my grandfather gave me this camera he used to shot with cause he has traveled a lot with his job during his life.

I'm like a kid with a new toy !

6725. With an unidentified crew member in the foreground, here we see two veteran Commonwealth Aircraft Corporation [CAC] Wirraways on the tarmac at the RAN's Naval Air Station at Nowra, with a Hawker Sea Fury FB11 in the background.

Although found to be not up to speed [205mph] as a fighter during WWII, the Wirraways - based on the North American NA-16 design - were basically trainers pressed into multiple roles for the Royal Australian Air Force [RAAF], and a total of 755 were built.

Between 1948 and 1953, 16 former RAAF Wirraways were operated by the RAN as land-based trainers. They were flown by 723 and 724 Squadrons.

You might think that the rails around the windmill sails are 'ealth and safety gone mad, but let me tell you a story...

When I was a little lad of about nine, I was playing on this course and, when I successfully navigated the windmill hole, I was so excited that on running round to retrieve my ball for the next hole, my head strayed too close to the rotating sails which clobbered me, resulting in some slight abrasions and minor bruising. The attendant took pity on me and gave me a free go round again, even though I'd already earned one by ringing the bell on the final hole.

Next time we were in Whitby, the following summer, the guard rails had appeared. I like to think that's because of me, but I suspect many other clumsy little boys did the same thing.

They can't do it now though.

Well there would be, wouldn't there? At the pool.

I am rather impressed by the way the flaw in the mirror has made me look as if I'm wearing a fascinator..although the 'poster edges' filter has somewhat modified the shock. (Every old trout should have one.)

Many folk have tripped over or stubbed their toes on these 'ealth n safety' signs.

Oh, the irony! Oh, the pain!
