An unusual, pandemic-shortened Southwest Chief is framed by the MP 717 semaphores as it scoots westward on the Raton Subdivision between Colmor and Levy, NM. A couple days later, signal cabinets and concrete bases were dropped at several locations on this portion of the line, including here. Thus, this may in fact be the last shot from this spot "as-is" without a giant shiny silver box directly behind the westbound signal.

Day 68 - Close to Home

Broadoak Park, and this spot is about 10 minutes walk away, although I have to cross a main road which can take ages.

I took this last Monday when I was working on the side-lit theme. This is the bottom of a souvenir salt shaker that I bought a year ago while we were visiting Alaska. HMM!

Sunset on the Sabino Creek. I did my annual New Years Day Blackettt's ridge hike and found myself still coming down the trail at sunset. I was moving fast to get out of the canyon before dark but took a quick minute to snap a pic of the water and reflections because it looked so peaceful and beautiful, a great way to start the year ...then I hustled my butt back toward the car! Didn't want to become tasty din din for a mountain lion!

I filtered this homemade black currant liqueur today, 750 ml. The fruit had been sitting in vodka with some sugar and cinnamon since Aug. 4, 2021. I didn't get around to finishing it at Christmas time, but it's none the worse for a little extra mulling. Simply delicious and lovely to behold.

Thank you to everyone who visits, faves, and comments.

Marybeth has been complaining that my Salsify specimens have been falling apart and the seeds are getting on the floor. Today I thought about taking care of them only to find their fantastic shadows drawing me back in!!

SOOO. Here we go again with a new interpretation of Salsify - The Shadow Edition. I think I'll keep them around because you just never know!!!!

I really need to post a call-out to Ali-1963 who got me started on Salsify with this image: www.flickr.com/photos/ali-roberts/5827182157/ her work is inspirational and I consider her one of the artists on flickr!!

52 weeks the 2021 Edition - My happy place

We went to Belton House and it was lovely to see all of the snowdrops coming out. A sure sign that spring is not far off. I'm sure that I could have taken a much better shot of this but you need eyes in the back of your head when out with the camera and my two children. Maybe another visit is in order

Today's edition of Armchair Traveling takes me back to our Panama Canal Crossing. We were up long before dawn to be sure that we didn't miss any of the action. This image was taken at 6:15 a.m. We were leaving Limon Bay and entering the Canal, approaching the Gatun Lock.

Designed by Louis Berger. The joke is that this bridge, the third to cross the canal, scheduled for completion in 2016 but not finished until 2019, will allow the French to succeed at something on the Panama Canal where they failed in their attempt to build the Canal in the late 1800's.

The main span was joined in September 2018 (about 5 months after this image), and the bridge was finally opened in August of 2019. Total length 9,250 feet; 697 feet high.
