Taken on April 30th 1961
Ex-LBSC E1 Class 0-6-0T 32694 at Gosport station with ex-LSWR O2 0-4-4T 30200, during the LCGB ‘The Solent Limited’ railtour on a misty day in April 1961.
The E1 had entered service in 1891, and was the last of its class still in service when this photo was taken. It was withdrawn in August 1962, and scrapped soon after that. The O2 had entered service in 1891, and was withdrawn in August 1962, and scrapped.. One of the E1 class was preserved, after being sold off in 1927 to a colliery, and one O2.. Both are now (2025) at the Isle of Wight Steam Railway..
Gosport station had been constructed in very ornate ‘Italianate’ style, but the original roof had been badly damaged during an air raid in 1941. The replacement steel and asbestos roof was never completed, as seen here, and the station closed to passengers in 1953, and closed completely in 1969, after which the roof was removed, and the rest of the remaining buildings became derelict..
Several years later, in 2011, the station buildings were sympathetically restored and renovated, for use as offices and housing..

Not good on tram classes. 282 obviously shorter than the others - still hanging onto a boom. Also on a single truck.

An old photograph of London Transport (LT) E/1 class tram No. 2045 showing '72 - Boro & London Bdge via Kennington & Westr' destination blinds.

The photo does not have a photographer name but is annotated "County Hall", I assume the old County Hall by Westminster Bridge. It is an original (amateur?) photo printed on 'Crown Copyright Reserved' paper which was in common use after WW2 when it was sold off as forces surplus stock.
No. 2045 was ex 'Walthamstow Urban District Council Light Railways' ('Walthamstow Corporation Tramways' from 1929) car No. 54 built in 1927 by Hurst Nelson seating 27/42 and running on Heenan & Froude maximum traction swing bolster type trucks. It was built for running on overhead and conduit so was fitted with two trolley poles and a truck mounted plough carrier, being similar in design to the LCC E/1 class. Its ownership transferred to the London Passenger Transport Board (LPTB) in 1933 and in Jan 1935 received driver vestibules/screens, from 1933 it worked from Holloway until the transfer of their services to trolleybus in 1938. It then worked from Bow for a short time before moving to South London where it worked from various depots, being withdrawn from service in Feb 1952 and sent to Penhall Road Works to be disposed of (broken up or sold).
The parts of the London tramways system that had not already been withdrawn or transferred to trolleybus/bus operation closed in Jul 1952.
Tram route 72 closed 10/11 Jul 1951 and was replaced by buses on service No. 186 which took a slightly different route to the one it replaced.

"All LT Trams retained the lamp hoods after the war (I believe they were modified to have a sliding red portion for use at the rear which was useful) The photo was probably taken in 1950 when the Westminster one way system was being built in preparation for the Festival of Britain celebrations. This was the last new build of conduit track anywhere in the world .... and was destined to be abandoned on 5th July 1952, of course!" 🚃

An old photograph of London Transport (LT) E/1 class tram No. 1399 showing '78 - West Norwood via Brixton' destination blinds. The tram is on Vauxhall Bridge Road, in the background is the Victoria Palace Theatre advertising 'The Crazy Gang' whose show 'Together Again' was on there during 1947.
The photo reverse is initialled by the photographer and negative owner 'ADP' (A. D. Packer - David Packer).

No. 1399 was an ex London County Council Tramways (LCC) car built in 1909 by Hurst Nelson seating 27/46 and running on Hurst Nelson (LCC class 4A) maximum traction trucks. In Sep 1928 it was 'pullmanised' (modernised) getting upholstered seats and a brightened up interior.
In 1933 its ownership transferred to the London Passenger Transport Board (operating as London Transport - LT) and in Sep 1936 it was reconditioned/rehabilitated (aka a 'rehab car') which included having driver screens (platform vestibules) fitted. It was withdrawn from service in Oct 1950 and in the December was disposed of (broken up or sold) in the Penhall Road Works/Scrapyard.
The parts of the London tramways system that had not already been withdrawn or transferred to trolleybus/bus operation closed on 05 Jul 1952.

This image is undated, however I think it was taken in the Autumn of 1960. W4 was the last of four LBSCR E1 0-6-0 tanks transferred to the isle of Wight in 1932 and 1933. After the closure of several lines between September 1952 and February 1956 the need for goods locomotives was reduced and they were withdrawn when major repairs were required, ironically W4, the last to arrive was the last to be withdrawn, in October 1960.
Built at Brighton works to the designs of William Stroudley, W4 entered service as LBSCR 131 GOURNEY during November 1878. Renumbered B131 and 2131 by the Southern Railway, it was transferred to the Isle of Wight in June 1933.

London Transport, no 1833 E1 Class at the Woolwich ferry, on Market hill this picture was taken by V.C Jones, looks like the fifties to me like the watneys ace of pubs sign on the side.
