The Military Hill caves, four man made caves set into a chalk ridge set back from the road.
Plenty of graffiti adorns the walls inside, with some examples dating to 1826. Whilst their true purpose is unknown, it is likely that they were excavated to provide lime for mortar for the construction of the Western Heights defences.
The cave entrances have long been sealed with large chalk blocks, graffiti dated 1907 gives an indication of the earliest date this might have happened.
Had a big day today. Up early for a sunrise shoot, then to breakfast with the crew. Home shortly after to prepare for a guy we organised to collect some rubbish we have stockpiled since we started a new year cleanup/dejunk. Then to Bob Jane's for a puncture repair [my first puncture for 13 years; I was wondering why on the way to and from the sunrise shoot the steering was pulling to the left a bit!]
Thought we deserved a break so went next door to the Commonwealth Hotel for a beer before heading into Darby for a meal at Viet King this evening.
This panoramic was shot at the Commonwealth Hotel. Didn't that first beer go down well!

This brave chap decided to relax after his visit to the Tate Modern by lighting up a strong spliff on the lawn outside... on a day near the end of the Olympics when there were police everywhere. Within a couple of minutes he'd been searched, arrested, handcuffed, and taken away.

I had blast today! All of these were 5 exposures blended and post processing in Lightroom and Photoshop to get the vibe that was had today!
Here's a couple more of the Grand Canyon, taken on the compact back in 07. These were taken using the camera's digital zoom - and back then I honestly thought that was a cool feature in the camera! lol
However, taking these sooc and into the iPhone has produced some nice results (imho!). Again, both are digital zooms so, to me, that makes them even more special as I know just how bad these can be!
More on the way ..... I'm loving my HDR iPhone app ;o)

St. Martin's Battery was originally built in 1876 to mount 10" Rifled Muzzle Loaders as part of a scheme to improve the defence of Dover Harbour and its approaches. In WWII it was adapted to mount 6" Naval Guns, becoming the Western Heights Emergency Battery.
A pine tree outside my office captured in Camera+ and applied Clarify. Created red, purple and green tinted versions with different filters in Camera+. Ran each tinted version through Decim8 three times. Used Autostitch to merge the 9 results together. Used Snapseed to play with the contrast and saturation. Used Dynamic Light's Orton filter to make a soft focus version and partially blended that back into the Snapseed version in Image Blender.
As a monument to York's earliest times, Roman Emperor Constantine the Great sits in splendour outside the south door of York Minster, the first emperor to embrace Christianity. This magnificent statue was a gift to the city from York Civic Trust. The marble head of a much earlier statue of Constantine - thought to date back to around the time he became Emperor in 306AD - was found during excavations in Stonegate. This is now on display in the Yorkshire Museum, along with many other Roman, Anglo-Saxon and later artefacts which have been discovered in York, including the 12th century, life-size sculpture of the Figure of Moses which once supported the vaulted ceiling of St Mary's Abbey.

Thought I'd give a portrait a go today. This is Josh, a workmate. He was extremely happy to be the subject of today's 366 photo! ;-)
