Always a fun challenge photographing these guys. It was a windy day, with clouds going in and out creating some dynamic light conditions. The wind always presents a challenge, but when it rains during the day I find that it keeps all manner of warblers active. I hope these guys survive the next two days - the polar vortex will not be fun and will make it more difficult to gather food.

Like the dynamic light there in the early morning.

AMSTERDAM, Light Festival - all living things emit energy. Trees do this too. WISP of the French collective Pitaya, makes this energy which are usually invisible, visible. The energy transition is visible through bundles of light. The trees along the canals of Amsterdam are proud as enlightened guardians while the light wisps of a dynamic light ballet forms. The magical celebration of the fragile and dynamic allure of nature can be seen from the water, where a magnificent reflection in the water. To the country guarded WISP the border between water and land.

Probably not the usual image taken here usually it is of the 'Lone Tree' and after taken several images of the tree there was not too much more of interest happening and noticing interest in the distance where haze and sunlight interacting giving some dynamic light variations and thought I would go for something of a more unusual composition. To the left of the trees you will just about see Dolbadarn Castle with the reflection of trees and mountains.

A year to the day since I visited the majestic Rocky Mountains last. I love the impact weather can have on a scenery - without the rain it would have been bland, but with the clouds moving in and out creating dynamic light hiding and revealing the fading glacier makes this image special.

Potentential thunder clouds in North Berwick which came to nothing thank goodness. Blustery day with constant dynamic light to confuse us. Lobster on the pier was a glorious lunch :)

It was still pretty early for most to get into the gardens so I was able to grab this peaceful little scene with the gazebo. I was hoping for some dynamic light, but...that's how it goes...needed to keep moving. Hope everyone has a great Sunday!

This shot shows a dynamic light display at an art museum in downtown Bellevue, Washington. The lights and sequences change according to an algorithm, but it was too complex to remember the details.

The hills may not have been alive with the sound of music, but they were alive with the dynamic light of the setting sun.

The Vivid Sydney festival in May and June creates irresistible stories through light and sound and brave new ideas; stories that inspire and entertain people, stories which combine to become a unique and powerful expression of 'Creative Sydney'.

Smart Light Sydney will showcase dynamic light art sculptures using smart technology with a free Light Walk around Sydney's iconic harbour precinct from Sydney Observatory, around the Rocks and Circular Quay to Sydney Opera House.

One evening looking to the west, I saw this dynamic light effect on the clouds from the sun behind.

Turkey vulture and "God rays." Taken late afternoon yesterday, with crazy clouds and super dynamic light. I was hiking the canyon rim and looking for landscape compositions, but this guy started soaring overhead, and he gave me "the shot." Cue Collective Soul's "Shine."

in the cathedral of modern silence, a solitary figure drifts beneath white ribs of steel and shadow — each step absorbed by the architecture’s pulse, each line a whisper of order against the vast hush of space.

Thank you to the viewers who gave me their thoughts on my "Sunset Poll - HELP" post of yesterday. It made for some very interesting reading and got me thinking. The poll continues. :)

This photograph is from the same area, but was taken in between the two times of the photos in the poll.

A camera simply doesn't have the dynamic light range of a person's eye and brain. I thought to present the photo as close to what I was seeing at the time. So, this image has been lightly processed as a single image HDR.

On a family day out at the park I rushed this one together. Would like to have another go at this with some more dynamic light and some different crops.

2013 has been a bust on the winter sunrise front for me. I just haven't been in the right place at the right time so far this year, perhaps 13 is my unlucky number. I miss working with some truly dynamic light, so this one takes me back to the winter of 2012 for a really colorful display.... Spring is here finally and the color will be returning to the world again and here is a little splash to get it started.

Have a great week and thanks for stopping by.

as if the water had its coat ...

From twilight to about 30 minutes past sunrise, Zabriskie Point is your ticket for an almost a 90-minute dynamic light show. Show up very early, have your wide angle and telephoto lenses at the ready, and fire away. Great spot also to do a time lapse.

Captured this wild flow down by the river's edge while shooting into the sun.

Reduced the aperture to get that sun star ... but using the 9 Stop ND allowing for some shutter lengthening to get some river motion captured there.

Spent a wonderful sunrise at this tranquil little straight. The dynamic light provided several different opportunities to shoot these mountains.

This lightly edited RAW file of Cleveland really shows off the dynamic light and color sensitivities of the Nikon D500.

The Milford Track is widely regarded as one of the greatest hiking trails in the world. And I can't dispute that - it was epic! The weather can be appalling, but as landscape photographers can attest, terrible weather can make for dynamic light and wonderful images. This image of Clinton Valley, dappled with rain showers and waterfalls, was captured in ferocious winds and driving rain atop MacKinnon Pass near the beginning of what was to be one of the wettest in my life, in which "trail" was turned into gushing creek.

This is one of my favorite places I've visited. High up in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado, it's situated with all of the things a guy could want. Less people around, a wonderful river to fish and enjoy, beautiful mountains, aspen and pine trees, etc. I wish I could visit more often!

Also, the little Olympus XA was a wonderful vacation camera. It pretty much lived in my pocket and capture many photos that made me glad I had it with me.

Pixel Cube

25 York Street

Pixel Cube is a 12 x 15 x 18-foot cube made up of 30,000 individually controllable colour LED's suspended in the foyer of 25 York Street. The pixels create a three-dimensional image surface that can update at full video speed. Several different approaches are used to present abstract and real-world imagery on and in the cube. The cube can present material prepared in advance, but it can also be live, and interactive. The cube is a real three-dimensional display surface. By selectively lighting the pixels, dynamic light sculptures can be created and interacted with.
