For Macro Mondays: Reflection theme
This is a small bit of perforated metallic ribbon coiled and strategically placed against a surface that diffracts light. There is both reflection and diffraction visible in this photo.
All well within the 3" guideline.

Strobist info: 430ex bounced off ceiling.
I woke up later than I wanted to this morning. After gathering my wits about me I drove Clarissa out to get a few things for band camp.
While on the road I got a phone call from my dad letting me know that my grandmother is about to pass away. I feel so guilty about not seeing her the last time I was in Hattiesburg. Now it seems that I might only get to see her for the last time at her funeral. It's an eye opener to how busy I truly have been. I need to slow down sometimes.
On that note, I got back home and after getting our new armoire in our bedroom and the television and DVDR backin place, I spent the rest of the afternoon working on ads for Travelhost.
Come dinner time the girls fed me and celebrated Father's day a night early since Clarissa will be in camp tomorrow. Mrs. Minnie got me a new Superman shirt and action figure. Clarissa got me the hardback collection of comics from "Secret War" and Tam got me "Elizabethtown" and some cool shirts. I feel like I'm undeserving. They're so good to me.
I shot this for several reasons.
1.) They think I'm a Super Dad ;-).
2.) It was a present and I liked it.
3.) I'm way excited about seeing "Superman Returns"
I just wish I'd have done something with my hair before I took it.. D'oh!

From floppy disks to optical and usb flash discs.
Historia nośników danych: od dyskietek poprzez płyty do pamięci Flash.
************************
Comparison: floppy disks can be used to store approx. 1 - 1.44 MB of data. CDs - approx. 650-800 MB. DVD - less than 4 GB, and blu-ray disks - less than a 25 or 50GB. Flash disks can store from 16 and 32 MB (old disks) to 128, 256 GB and even more...
It also means that only one small micro SD card can hold the contents of many thousands of floppies ... :-)

Do you know where your cables go?
Fully wired homes: could the high-tech home of the future be closer than we think?
Smart technology can be incorporated into new homes as they are being constructed (only "parking" the HDMI Smart Cables inside the wall makes cables disappear) and makes a "wired and minimalist" lifestyle available. You can literally hang HDTVs on the wall like pictures. This kind of - present use and future proof - homes includes the last minute technology and modern furniture and simple decorations complete this clean look.
Controlling all your devices - Blu-ray disc player / HDD recorder digital multimedia receiver / HDD recorder with digital TV tuner / Internet@TV - that are OUT OF SIGHT.
All equipment in an enclosed MULTI MEDIA CONTROL CENTRE with dOt sliding doors (designed by Dutch architect Huib van Wijk) but to operate with ONE REMOTE CONTROL:
- Philips 9000 series 3D LED TV. All sound and vision systems are available by using the infotainment on 46" flat screens.
- Samsung BD-C8500 - HDD Combo. It combines two of the hottest home entertainment technologies – Freeview HD and Blu-ray – in a single stylish unit, without compromising on picture quality in either department. We’re also big fans of the feature list, which includes modern must-haves like DLNA networking and Internet access, plus the operating system is top-notch.
- Apple AirPort Extreme Base Station Wifi Router. As with most Apple products - it looks great and it just works. Great range and highly configurable (even allows you to plug in a USB hard drive).
In other words, far from being toys for the boys, smart-home technology makes all our lives more beautiful.

The piece entered is two animations, but I wanted to present the animation CDs nicely - rather than the usual jewel cases.
I handmade the case so it operates like a book. The animations will be posted shortly.
Our media/foosball room is the most overlooked room in the house. Technically a 3rd bedroom, but only measuring 8'x8', with no closet. We have crammed an insane amount of stuff in here. Without exaggeration, thousands of comic books, thousands of CD-R/DVD-R/BD-Rs backups, all our old almost-trash hardware that occasionally gets re-used, floppy discs, audio cassettes, some DC2120 tapes, routers, hubs, an Odyssey 2 console, vinyl records, empty cd spindles, spare keyboards, headphones, floppy drives, hard drives, torn up remnants of tee shirts & posters....... A veritable junkyard of stuff that we don't use very often, but also don't want to throw away. I've been looking into the idea of climate-proof comic book boxes, so they could be moved to the attic. It's an expensive prospect, and I'm not sure what we'd do with the extra space. It's not like we'd throw away the shelf the comics are on. We'd just put new stuff on the shelf. So the real question would be: From where would that new stuff come from, and how would it benefit wherever that new stuff comes from? It's hard to optimize when there's not a super-specific goal.

When a ham friend passed away in February, he left behind a massive archive of stuff. As a family member said, "He was certainly a saver." In addition to tens of thousands of VHS and DVDR (four dumpsters full), he left these cassettes and reel tapes. They were meticulously numbered and cataloged. He also saved every TV dinner tray from his childhood, a closet full of plastic food containers of every kind, and two houses and a garage full of recordings of every kind. Mostly radio and television broadcasts in fair quality. Why do people save things?
I made these shots for a Flickr group assignment with the theme Rainbow. Experimenting with light, refractions and reflections is so much fun. They are all pretty much SOOC except for some white balance adjustments, levels and cropping. Not sure which shot to apply to the assignment though.
With LightScribe you can "burn" a label directly onto the disc.
First you burn the disc as usual, then you flip the disc upside down in the optical drive, and use the laser to burn the image onto the top side.
The image used for this Knoppix live linux CD was found on puntodepartida.com/cd_dvd_caratulas.php
The program used to burn the image on the disc was LightScribes own LightScribe Template Labeler www.lightscribe.com/downloadSection/windows/index.aspx?id...

Ray Johnson Fan Club Relationship LXVIII "DE BOLERO"was completed 7/13/2013 using trash found on the streets of Brussels. I made it on a ruined blank DVDR, while sitting at Café de la Presse on Avenue Louise near Ixelles in Brussels.

USING TRASH OFF THE STREETS TO MAKE ART ON THE STREETS.
I use only trash and found items to make these one-of-a-kind, hand cut and paste, signed & numbered artworks. I use trashy paperback book covers, record & magazine covers, CDs, posters, postcards and other mass-produced media as a base for my hand-cut & paste collages, which I usually leave out on the streets for anyone to enjoy (or destroy.)
This collage was left 8/18/13 on the wooden barrier gate of an elevated boardwalk at the Lido Public Beach in Venice, Italy. (see photo below.)
