When I go to Cancale to eat oysters and take photos there, it almost always rains. This small beach is on the way and I had to capture the atmosphere and immediately knew what to expect in Cancale.

Until we return to Europe in less than 2 weeks, I will shout some spectacular pictures of our housebeach. We always walk along the beach between 6 and 7 o'clock in the early morning, while the sun rises at 6:15 or 6:30. it's usually a great experience to walk barefoot for 3 km through the sand. Most of the time I only have my OS Systems camera TG-7 with me. It is waterproof and dustproof and takes pictures quite well.
For this shot, I practically put the camera on the sand and pulled the trigger just before the front line of the surf reached the Kamera. That wouldn't have been so bad, because the TG-7 is waterproof and dustproof. However, it is only a small compact camera with limited setting options, just good for taking with you on an early morning beach walk. But I missed the foremost reflection of the red rising sun as a focal point. This lies in the sand just in front of it. Still, I like the blurry drama of the picture.

I know, same location as my previous upload. :-) But from a little different perspective. I've been able to get my hands on a Nikon1 AW1 and took it out for its first outing here. I think it will prove to be a wonderful side camera as it is waterproof, shockproof and dustproof. It is taking a little bit to get used to it as I am used to the dslr format but this mirrorless camera still allows for interchangeable lenses and allows me to still work in RAW format.
Now Re-ment's really got me lately with these terrariums. Some of my daughter's favorite Pokemons, then my beloved Sumikko & Rilakkuma! Not that I'm buying the whole series of everyone, but a favorite (or two?!?! ) out of each... I had to! They are too big for the dolls, but perfect for me! Also I love their being closed in a mini dustproof "case" (the ones that are square and open on top I close with transparent cling film!). SO cute! I would have died over them as a child, I always loved mini stuff!

The restored McKeen Motor Car at the Nevada State Railroad Museum in Carsen City on June 26, 2011 -- Virginia and Truckee Railroad #22.
****
From the Friends of the Nevada State Railroad Museum web site.
When the Virginia and Truckee Railroad completed its branch line between Carson City and Minden in 1906, passenger service was provided by a mixed passenger and freight train. It was soon apparent that additional passenger service was desirable, but adding a passenger-only steam train was too expensive. The Virginia and Truckee looked at motorcars as a more cost-effective solution, and in 1910, purchased a 70 foot gas powered McKeen motor car to provide twice-a-day passenger service between Minden and Carson City.
The McKeen Motor Car Company of Omaha, Nebraska, was organized under the sponsorship of E. H. Harriman of the Union Pacific and Southern Pacific Railroads. It was one of the most successful of the early motor car manufacturers. The cars featured ultramodern steel stressed skin construction, "dustproof" porthole windows, and the distinctive knife-shaped wind-splitter front.
By 1932, passenger traffic on the V&T was declining all over the railroad. The McKeen car was rebuilt in the shops with expanded mail and express space, and placed in service all the way from Reno to Minden, making a round trip once per day. The car final made its last run in September 1945, one of the last unmodified McKeen cars running in the nation. In 1946 the body was sold to become a diner, and later Al's Plumbing Supply office in Carson City. It was donated to the Nevada State Railroad Museum in early 1996. The official unveiling of the restored car was May 9, 2010, one hundred years exactly from the date it was delivered to the Virginia & Truckee Railroad.

Located in the heart of Music City, adjacent to the state capitol, the Hermitage Hotel is the only remaining grand hotel in the city and the only commercial Beaux Arts structure in the state of Tennessee. Following the completion of a multi-million dollar restoration in 2003, this beloved hotel is once again a showplace that combines convenience with splendor. A newly-created grand foyer leads into the Hermitage’s stunning lobby, called one of the most beautiful public rooms in America. With its preeminent location, the hotel is ideally situated for the enjoyment of leisure and business travelers.

After a night of thunderstorms, decided to wake up early and watch the sun come up. Not much of a "real" sunrise but the colors were fantastic, and just another in the "From The Deck" photographs. Also shot on a new camera. Decided I wanted a Panasonic Lumix DMC -TS2 for my birthday so I bought myself this camera.. The camera is waterproof to 33' (10m), shockproof to 6.6' (2m), freezeproof to 14°f (-10°c), and dustproof. This makes the camera perfect for beach going, swimming, skiing, climbing, hiking or any other outdoor activity, or tough environments. Thought this would make a perfect compliment to my DSLR collection and for those times when I don't want to lug around the DSLR.

It was a very windy day, my camera and lens literally covered in sand... definitely need a dustproof model for here.
Taken at Tottori sand dunes(鳥取砂丘).
Well, I am.
After gawking of it well over a month, I've finally caved in and got myself this little gem a few days ago. It's the latest Sony TX5, the specs are as follows:
Waterproof, dustproof, shockproof, freeze-proof, 3.0" wide touch screen, 4x optical zoom, "Exmor R" sensor, iSweep Panorama Mode, 10fps at full 10.2 megapixels. While I did consider TX7 with higher resolution videos(1080p as oppose to 720p), it does not have the water proofing casing so it was a no brainer for me. The Exmor on board sensor also performs amazingly well in low light conditions, it is about 2x as sensitive and 1/2 as noisy compare to other point-n-shoots out there. And the best thing? It takes regular SD cards!
Underwater test shots to come later!!
Photographed in Forest Deisenhofen with my brandnew camera Pentax Optio W90. It's an outdoor camera: waterproof, dustproof, shockproof. My Panasonic TZ10 broke after fallen aground :-(
Amanita muscaria (also known by the English-language common name Fly Agaric or Fly Amanita) is a psychoactive agaric species of mushroom found commonly throughout much of the world. The quintessential toadstool, it is a large imposing white-gilled, white-spotted, usually deep red mushroom, one of the most recognizable and widely encountered in popular culture.
The white spots may disappear in times of rain.
The common names in English, "Fly Agaric" or "Fly Mushroom", are generally thought to derive from its European use as an insecticide, sprinkled in milk.
In Germany the "Fliegenpilz" is a very well-known symbol of luck like a four-leaf clover or a horseshoe. You can find it on many greeting cards (especially at the turn of the year).

The Leica S2. Simply Awesome
A Medium-Format Sensor in a '35mm' Body
By Allan Weitz
Print Close
Leica's surprise announcement of the Leica S2 pretty much blows the bubbles off every other press release coming out of Photokina, or anywhere else in the photo world as of late. Sure, reasonably priced, full-frame DSLRs are cool; but a 37.5-megapixel medium-format sensor that's 56% larger (30x45 mm) than the so-called competition, and in a smaller body no less, is downright awesome.
Ballyhoo aside, the Leica S2 is truly a gorgeous machine. Similar in style to Leica's classic R8/R9 SLR cameras, it is clean looking and understated as compared to all other DSLRs on the market. Buttons, toggles, and switches are minimal, and the menus displayed on the camera's 3' 460,000-dot LCD are as simple as those found on Leica's first DSLR venture, the Module R. The new camera, designed and built in Germany, features an all-metal body that is both dust and waterproof.
While frame-per-second burst-rate figures haven't been released, Leica claims the new camera is twice as fast as Hasselblad's H-series cameras, which depending on the model can capture images at a bit over one frame-per-second.
To compliment the new camera Leica is concurrently introducing seven bayonet-mount S-series lenses that should keep everybody happy. Included in the line-up are a 24mm ultra-wide, 35mm wide, 70mm standard lens, 100mm 'portrait' lens, 120 mm macro, 180mm telephoto, and a 30mm tilt/shift lens. And though autofocus in design (with the exception of the 30 mm tilt/shift), manual focusing with electronic focus-confirmation is also possible with each of the S-series optics. Like the S2 camera body, the new lenses are also water and dustproof.
Aside from a conventional focal-plane shutter in the camera body for wider-aperture lenses, each of the Leica-S optics also contains an internal leaf-shutter to enable high-speed flash sync up to 1/4000th-second.
Images can be captured in a choice of DNG, RAW, and/or JPEG formats onto either CompactFlash or SDHC memory cards. According to Leica you can store up to 400 RAW-format images on a 32GB card. An optional vertical grip that features a second shutter release, control wheel, and space for a second battery will also be available for the new camera. The exact price of the new camera is yet to be announced, but we strongly recommend you start saving up.
Stay tuned for a full-blown test of the Leica S2 in an upcoming newsletter. We don't know about you, but we can't wait.

BACKSTORY: COMMENTS/ANECDOTES: This was a great day for yardsaling! Multiple community yardsales, the Boy Scout flea market, a church rummage sale, this day had it all. We got a lot of stuff. 3 car-loads! A Russian Cyrillic typewriter. We actually made it through the entire route, surprisingly. We had talked about maybe skipping a section in the middle, but then we went ahead and continued on. Then later, we were like, "Damn, we should have skipped that stuff in the middle, but then we wouldn't have gotten the stripper pole." Trade-offs! Our two goals were met though: we were specifically looking for floor lamps and power strips. By the way, Trump voters price stuff ridiculously.
SUMMARY: Got up around 7:05AM, made it out driving from McDonald's by 7:48 and went out until 2:39PM for a total of 6 hours. Spent $164.24 plus ~$5.03 gas for 58.1 miles of driving (28.7 mpg @ $2.49/G), for a total cost of $169.27. We drove to 48 yard sales, stopping at 18 (38%) of them. We made 65 purchases (115 items not including the power blocks) for a total estimated value of $1,207.61, leading to a profit/savings of $1,038.34. So in essence, we multiplied our $169.27 investment by 6.13X. (Also, if you think about it, the profit counts for even more when you consider that we have to earn $1,183 on the job, pre-tax, in order to take home the $1,038.34 in cash that we saved. How long does $1,038 of disposable income take to earn, vs the 6 hrs we spent here?) Anyway, this works out to a *post-tax* "wage" of $173.06/hr as a couple or $86.53/hr per person.

Olympus continues this legacy by pairing these technologies with several new breakthrough features developed for the E-5 camera, providing further proof that Olympus lets you capture it all.
> Superior Image Quality: The E-5 camera achieves the highest image quality of any Olympus camera by pairing a 12.3 megapixel High-Speed Live MOS Sensor with a TruePic V+ image processing engine that boasts new “Fine Detail Processing” technology for greater detail in the photograph. Optimized to maximize the performance of the Zuiko® Digital Lenses, Fine Detail Processing takes digital photography to the next level.
> 270 Degree Swivel LCD: A 3.0-inch dual axis swivel HyperCrystal® LCD with 920,000 dots makes it easy to frame High Definition (HD) videos and still images at any angle from low to high and side to side to ensure accurate composition.
> Limitless Creativity: Ten in-camera Art Filters including new Dramatic Tone round out this DSLR’s impressive feature set. For the first time, photographers can use Art Filters in all shooting modes, program auto, shutter priority, aperture priority and manual modes and movies with expanded control. Both still and movie capable, the E-5 camera offers HD video in an E-System DSLR for the first time.
The Xperia M2 harks back to the Omnibalance design found on the Z1 and Z2, with its square form factor, slightly rounded edges and tempered glass coated shell. Unfortunately though it’s not water or dustproof like its bigger counterpart and the chassis is still a magnet for fingerprints, so be prepared to clean it frequently.

Take a piece of pie, a cup of your favorite beverage and sit down... because I'll tell you the history of this picture. :-)
I was taking aerial pictures using a kite (which is called Kite Aerial Photography or KAP, for short) and an old and cheap webcam. The webcam died (natural causes, nothing KAP related), then I bought another, better digital camera. This one also died in a few days (never flew with it, BTW), and is now being "repaired" on warranty (for only God knows how much long). I still have another camera, a Canon Powershot S60, which I love and adore, and didn't want it to be exposed to all the wind, sand and water of the places we usually spend our holidays. So, I was not KAPing for some time. :-\
As we will spend a few days on Jericoacoara (considered one of the most beautiful places in Brazil) and I was itching to KAP again, I decided to take a chance with our last surviving digital camera... but as safe as possible!
In this picture you can see the materials for my future waterproof KAP rig. It's relatively simple (the camera will always point straight down), light, and most important, safe (for both the camera and anything between the ground and the rig).
I started with a plastic box with good sealing on the lid, and cut its bottom (as you can see in the picture), because it was not transparent. I cut a piece of a CD jewel case to cover that, and used silicone rubber to "glue" it. As the Canon lenses are extendable, I made a kind of styrofoam mold for the camera, to hold it tightly and gently in place. Two bits of foam will make sure there's no space for the camera to shake inside the box.
To hold the box to the picavet, and also give a bit of pressure over the lid, I'll use two pairs of velcro (which will be fastened to the green wire around the box, in the picture). I guess just one pair of velcro would be enough, but why take chances?
One of the bad things about this rig it its size... but on the other hand, I can use if for almost any other point-and-shoot camera (I just have to change the styrofoam mold).
Until now, this is the fruit of a day's work. If everything goes well, I'll come back next week and have some new KAP pictures in my stream!
So, how was your pie? I hope you enjoyed it... :-)
Edit: I flew with this rig, the results are here!

The double disco ball is a nice addition to our party-light area. We had JUST taken down the light that had been there before for about 16 years, because of malfunction. Then this pops up the next week. Yay slack!

Spent $164.24 plus ~$5.03 gas for 58.1 miles of driving (28.7 mpg @ $2.49/G), for a total cost of $169.27. We drove to 48 yard sales, stopping at 18(38%) of them.
