The female mallard duck. (called a hen) is streaked and mottled in shades of brown with orange-and-brown bills. Seen hear in a photo I have taken at Swan Lake Victoria, BC. As not as stunning in colour it still has an stunning pattern to this feathers.

The Anas platyrhynchos, the scientific name of the mallard duck. I encountered one of these ducks in Swan Lake and managed to take a picture of it. It approached me curiously, probably expecting some food from me. I was fascinated by the iridescent green color of its head, which contrasted with its bright yellow beak.

francescayoubetcha: @franniemacdougal I handled these ladies SO MUCH, transferring them morning & evening for the first month. But my real ace in the hole was that their adopted mom, Cute-Cute is the only duck that eats out of my hand and lets me pet her. They followed her lead!
