The runner duck or Indian runner duck, also called bottle duck, is a duck breed descended from the mallard (Anas platyrhynchos). She is one of the penguin ducks.

Because of their legs, which are relatively high for a duck, runner ducks are better at walking than mallards or utility breeds like the Peking duck. However, the runner duck is also a water bird and needs water for both food intake and plumage care, and swimming is one of its normal basic needs.

While I awoke this morning with a heavy heart and a sick feeling in the pit of my stomach, 1000s of Victorian hunters awoke with excitement in the early hours of the morning to set out for the beginning of the 2018 Duck Hunting season.

Last year on the opening weekend at least 260 protected birds were killed at one State Game Reserve alone and more than a thousand ducks were left uncollected after being shot.

An estimated 26,000 shooters took part in 2017 season opening.

There is no way I can bend my mind around viewing duck hunting as a "Perfectly recognisable' sport".

With so many water bird numbers dangerously low, it is hard to believe we still allow such a barbaric practice to continue.

The highland wetlands are again flourishing after a number of years of drought. This photograph is evidence of that. I'm not a hunter and never have been, but I'm told this area is very popular in duck hunting season. And one can see why.

The weather wasn't great on the day I took these photos, but you can see patches of sunlight breaking through in this landscape. Actually, on the right hand side hill, you can see what appears to be rainbow colours near the ground. I'd say that's the sun breaking through the cloud cover.

It's quite cold here with thin ice on the ponds and canals; yet there are also some newly hatched ducklings. Here's a photo of a family in the Noorderpark in Amsterdam. They're so-called Egyptian Geese but are actually a kind of duck. Not native to these parts, they started to multiply in The Netherlands in the 1960s. Their scientific name goes back on the Greek for 'foxy goose' on account of the reddish-brown 'foxy' coloring of their back. They're considered exotic pests and if you have a license they can be freely hunted like foxes in England until 2005.

With over 10 million Mallard ducks (Anas platyrhynchos) residing in North America alone, the Mallards are one of the best-known and most recognizable ducks. the mallard is a dabbling duck found throughout the temperate and sub-tropical areas around the world. The most abundant and wide-ranging duck on earth. The mallard usually inhabits the freshwaters of North America, Europe, Asia, New Zealand and Australia. Mallards usually feed on plants, such as grass seeds, leaves, stems and aquatic plants, and vegetation like grains, rice, oats and corn. However, they are also seen feeding on insects, mollusks, small fish, tadpoles, freshwater snails, fish eggs, frogs and crustaceans. This beautiful drake was photographed at White Rock Lake in Dallas, Texas.

I made a promise last July that I would upload another picture of this mind-twisting stairwell (seen in Charlestown, MA). Here I am four months later proving that I'm a man of my word. This flattened perspective sparked an interest in urban abstracts this past summer... it still tops the list as one of my favorites from Boston. A huge thanks to Irisa for the crop suggestion!

Tenth - and final - entry on Iron Builder against Jonas.

Very, very obvious seed part use here, but aspect of psychological violence with the annoying dog and everything was too large to miss. Lots of math here, and the tension between the bricks grew very large, which made this rather disastrous to assemble.

It has been hell of a month, by the way.
