Szpital został założony w 1286 r. z inicjatywy lubeckich kupców. Od czasów reformacji jest świeckim domem opieki.

Kładka św. Ducha na Wyspę Spichrzów, widok z nabrzeża Wyspy Spichrzów, Gdańsk, 25 grudnia 2019 r.
Budowa obrotowego mostu łączącego Długie Pobrzeże na wysokości Bramy św. Ducha z Wyspą Spichrzów rozpoczęła się w 2018 r. Pierwotnie zakładano otwarcie na początku 2019 r., natomiast obecnie planowane otwarcie ma nastąpić w połowie 2020 r. Kładka ma długość 57 m i szerokość 4,5 m.

The construction of the swing bridge connecting the Long Embankment at the Holy Spirit Gate with the Granary Island started in 2018. Originally the opening was planned for the beginning of 2019, currently it is assumed that the inauguration will take place in the mid-2020. The footbridge has the length of 57 m and the width of 4.5 m.
