Using Smartphone For Northern Light Shooting?

Huawei smartphones have built in professional camera. It is the first smartphone in the world that can be used to take northern light photos. Also, you will find that using smartphone's focus free camera for dark night shooting is easier if you had the painful experience of using DSLR camera for focusing in the dark.

A Bird of Paradise in the Royal Botanical Gardens Centre's Mediterranean Garden located in the City of Burlington Ontario Canada.

Bird-of-paradise is one of the world’s best-known plants. Native to the subtropical coastal areas of southern Africa, it has been cultivated worldwide, and it has been naturalized in North, Central, and South America, as well as in Portugal, where it is the national flower. Its exotic appearance, with unique and brightly colored flowers that look like the head of a bird, has made it a favorite with horticulturists, designers, florists, and gardeners. In full flower, a bird-of-paradise looks a bit like several birds hidden in a clump of foliage, craning their necks up and turning their plumed heads and pointed beaks in different directions.

This week's Happy Caturday theme is "best" photo. This actually isn't my best but it is one of my favorites. I took this photo back in April 2012 - one month after I bought my first DSLR camera and joined Flickr. The photo isn't quite focused but my settings were all in manual mode and the photo is SOOC - because I was so new to digital photography that I didn't know how to edit my pictures. For years and years taking photos of my cats was a very fun hobby but lately, I've gotten lazy and switched to taking photos with my phone. And my cats are older so they mostly sleep. But Ella, Mack, Jimmy and I had many fun years posing (them) and taking (me) photos!

A complete contrast to yesterday's shot. I didn't have my dslr camera with me, so this is an opportunist shot taken with my Nokia N95 phone (it DOES have a Carl Zeiss lens), as I liked the shapes of the light and shadow. As there was a limited colour range in the shot anyway, I reduced the colour depth to 16 colours, which enhanced the textures. Also slight cropping. It is not a selective colour shot, as such, as other than reducing the colour depth, I did nothing else with the colour.

Explore: Jun 29th, 2009 - Best Position: #135

Thanks again to all my Flickr friends ... especially for all your feedback and visits!

(NOTE: I was particularly pleased that this shot made Explore, especially as it was taken with a mobile phone, not a dslr camera. The most important thing is not the kit that you use, but the pictures you take!)

This is a re-processed version of my first flower photo. In fact, it’s the first photo I ever took with a DSLR camera! You can see the original in the first comment. It was shot with a Canon Rebel T3 and the 18-55mm kit lens on September 3, 2012. So excited about my new camera, I remember buying some flowers from the local market, taking them home and sitting them in the shade under the oak tree in my backyard. Camera in hand, I began to take those first shots. I remember being frustrated because the lens wouldn’t let me get as close to the flowers as I wanted to and have everything be in focus, but I got as close as I could.

I came across this photo a few weeks ago and thought it would be fun to take another look and see what I could make of it. Although it’s still far from being one of my favorites, I think it turned out OK.

I’m glad I kept this. It’s a good reminder of how far I’ve come.

Anyone else still have their first photo? Even if you don’t have the first, seek out some of your earlier work. I’ll bet you’ll be surprised at your progress!!

A large American Alligator sunbathing on the bank of the Banana Creek Marsh pond photographed from the Herons Hideout Trail in the Circle B Bar Reserve located in the City of Lakeland, Polk County Florida U.S.A.

American alligators are large crocodilians found only in the United States. They can grow to be more than 12 feet (3.6 meters) in length and weigh as much as 1,000 pounds (450 kilograms), with males being slightly larger than females on average. The animal’s dark skin is armored with small, bony scales called scutes.

A long, powerful tail helps propel the animal through water, as do webbed feet. They are cold-blooded and depend on the natural world around them to provide warmth. To do this, they will bask in the sun or dig holes in mud to trap heat. Although American alligators can be hard to miss while basking on the shore, they can look eerily like logs when floating in the water.

Eschscholzia californica the California poppy, golden poppy, California sunlight or cup of gold, is a species of flowering plant in the family Papaveracea, native to the United States and Mexico. It is cultivated as an ornamental plant flowering in summer (spring in southern Australia), with showy cup-shaped flowers in brilliant shades of red, orange and yellow(occasionally pink and white). It is also used as food or a garnish. It became the official state flower of California in 1903.

My DSLR camera, battery both crashed after reaching Mayabay 😔😔

so only thing left was my ordinary mobile redmi phone!

it didn't betray me

Turquoise water, beautiful mountains, boat trip, longtail, clear water, tree at Phi Phi Le, Maya Bay, rocks, hills, beautiful nature of Thailand.

Maya Bay has finally reopened to tourists, although now the bay has strict rules that everyone has to follow.

It is not possible to swim, anchor in the bay

and there is a limitation about the amount of daily visitors.

I recommend you to visit it during the first shift in the morning to avoid crowds, despite of the rules it is still an amazing place to see and enjoy the nature.

One of the first few clicks after I bought my first DSLR camera.

12,000 feet of automobile traffic and mixed freight from Alton & Southern's Gateway Yard drops down slowly off the MacArthur Bridge's elevated west approach, entering downtown St. Louis on an autumn's eve behind the watchful eyes of company re-brand SD70ACe #8504. At over two and a quarter miles long, this 13K ton, PSR-bred, Herrington, KS bound MASHN 11 stretches its westbound consist across the entire width of the mighty Mississippi River's water, occupying real estate across the state lines of both Illinois and Missouri. The pair of EMDs are seen rolling up to the busy interlocking at "Gratiot" where they'll diverge onto the Terminal "High Speeds" and around the yard at 12th St before connecting back to home Jefferson City Sub rails at Grand Ave. Back in 2022, Union Pacific recently announced a re-design of their corporate scheme that changed the look and position of their "Building America" flag from its more prominent spot alongside the locomotives' long hood, closer up front to the cab, protecting its patriotic image from damaging engine heat. With it, also came the loss of their "Wings;" Once proudly worn center stage on the noses of all new locomotives since 2002, the front now subtly displays a small, original UP company shield, forever now grounding those high-flying wings. The design concept was courtesy of employees at the railroad's Jenks Shops in North Little Rock, AR and as locomotives cycle through the program there, needing fresh paint, they'll receive this new treatment. In typical railroad fashion, the 8504's "new" paint is already covered in dirt and grime, looking almost in worse shape than its trailing protégé.

The photo was originally shot by Nikon FE10 DSLR camera on a Kodak 100 film.

February is finally here, and it started with an average cloudy day that somehow turned into a sunny day. This is one of the very few photos I took after the sun arrived, yay!

The lens has signs of fungus, but other than that, it is remarkably clean. I got it for almost nothing, so I'm not complaining. This looks better than expected from a (very) cheap ƒ/5‍.‍6 lens.

DSLR Camera Trap

23-12-20

8 sec exposure @ F8 ISO 500

Because I have three different DSLR cameras for my photography, I don’t use my cell phone for photos very often at all. - But I am sure glad that I had it my shirt pocket back in January of 2017 so that I could quietly sneak this shot of our Cat Simba relaxing with me as I got in some early morning reading time of the classic 1951 Jones novel “From Here To Eternity”. ~~ A Jeff Hampton Photograph ©

On Front Page!

Two years ago in early November I bought my current and first DSLR camera. I had not done any night shooting prior to my coming to the annual lighting of the Pigeon Point Lighthouse's Fresnel Lens. I was a nervous wreck trying to get set up, and a fellow photographer even attempted to sabotage me by telling me to do things that made my shots worse.

I came away that evening with a decent shot, but because I used a high ISO a very grainy shot. Well, it's been two years and they re-lit the lens tonight and I was able to try getting that shot one more time.

I met some wonderful people and got to hang with my friend Paul and even saw another flickr contact I haven't seen in a while.

It was a fantastic evening!
