Today's Daily Shoot: "We're all collectors of something. Find an interesting way to display and make a photo of a collection today."
We have accumulated a small collection of masks from different countries. They are mainly from Asia (these ones are from Korea and Malaysia), but we also have the white and gold Venetian carnival mask (actually bought in Spain). Masks are mysterious - ristualistic, theatrical, ceremonial - and universal. They hide your identity, and let you adopt new roles. Maybe the various avatars are a form of digital mask today.
For someone who doesn't play very often, I sure do have a lot of these... :(

As I walked along the beach in Nuevo Vallarta today, I was reminded of how much my son enjoyed collecting pebbles and shells on the beach years ago. These lie waiting for another little boy to treasure them!

Not being at home meant resorting to my collection of camera stuff I carry in my Lowepro backpack-- collection now includes 3 non stock lenses-- Canon 50mm f/1.4 my favorite, Tamron 18-270 handy but underused, and the new fun machine, Canon 10-20mm f/3.5-4.5

Before you read this, just remember I had a simple childhood. Very simple, and one I wouldn't trade.
When I was a child, one of the things I did to occupy my time was to look through things. Books, photo albums, boxes....you could call it being nosy but let's just say I just wanted to learn. (I like that better). My mom had all sorts of "stuff" in her closet - one being a box of buttons. Not sure why she saved the buttons, I hardly remember her ever using them. She probably saved buttons because my Grandmother saved buttons. Grandma saved everything. I would spend hours sorting through the buttons - finding the most unique, matching them up, categorizing.... (told you I was a simple child).
So, a couple of years ago, I came across this really cool old Mason jar. It would be great filled with buttons, I thought. I pulled the few out that I had, and after a few trips to the flea market, I had my jar almost full.
And yes, I now save buttons. I just do.

That's a very small part from my DVD collection (actually very tiny). Mostly action, adventure, scifi...and a few 3D animation.
As a movie collector, I'm very happy BluRay has finally arrived as the new entertainment format: better image quality, amazing sound, zillions of extras on a single disc...and for me, the most important: DVDs have lowered the prices. ;)
My sons have an incredible collection of lego creations -- including a good number of mutant/mash-up character miniatures.
I asked them to select and name a few, and here they are:

So many collections....I have a fairly good sized collection of Junior Ranger Badges from National Parks we have visited. The students at school love seeing them and learning about our National Parks. This is a small representation.

I grabbed 3 oversized comics that I don't have stored in bags. The few hundred or so I have in archival plastic bags would have been tough to photograph with the glare.

You would think I was opening up shop, judging by the amount of bags and scarves on my hat stand!
The 69th @dailyshoot assignment was about collections. I've never collected model trains myself, but I find them quite fascinating. There's a vibrant community of collectors here in Switzerland and all bigger cities have a few specialist shops with intricately accurate (and quite expensive) miniature trains.

yes, i collect blue and white teapots. upon spotting this today at my favorite consignment shoppe, i *had* to buy it!!
(Corrected) Street scene reported in Sens, according to Mr. Smith's notes, but Flickr user claude demeester (below) has correctly identified this location as in Reims, and has a Google link to locate it. This would have been around 2-5 Sept. 1944.

Part of a rather large collection of hats. Couldn't find a good way to put them all together, so a closeup of the hat rack closest to the front door. If you look closely, you can see more hats stacked (and out of focus) on the chair at the bottom right of the frame.

This is my runner up picture for today. A few fir cones we collected. The first time I applied the copper toner in Silver Efex Pro. I like it in this case.

OK, call me crazy... Whenever I eat something which was wrapped in aluminum foil I keep the foil and make balls from it... These are the ones I have at home... a few more in the office...

Not much of a serious collector of anything, but it is difficult to not pick up a shell or two (or three or...) when you frequently walk the Gulf's shoreline. Naples, FL
