The 49th @dailyshoot assignment was about shooting with a fixed focal length. I've shot all my @dailyshoot photos so far with my prime lens (35mm DX), so just sticking with the same focal length wasn't that exciting and I chose to turn the assignment around by using cropping as a way to simulate a zoom lens.
I usually try to get the composition roughly right already when I take the shot and only use cropping for fine-tuning around the edges. For this assignment I intentionally cropped heavily to get this abstract closeup shot that would otherwise have been impossible with this lens.

Modifying this a bit (though focal length was the same), I decided to take twenty shots of the same subject and explore the lighting, angles, settings, and new experiences. Since indoor and food shots are not my specialty (and since I have many a monthly scavenger hunt 'to do'), decided to stretch even farther. Though I like the composition, I still need to work a lot on my technical photographic skills. Naples, FL

Snow squalls, whiteout conditions (roads are closed), and -22 degrees C mean that my outdoor shots today have been taken through the window. Mid-range of my 17-200 mm lens seems to be where I can see best. It will be interesting to see how much longer it takes for the chair to be totally drifted over!
En una emotiva ceremonia se hizo entrega de doce viviendas reconstruidas gracias al subsidio de reposición por los terremotos de 2014.
•En el mismo sector se están reconstruyendo un total de 56 viviendas, bajo la modalidad del DS49 en sitio propio.
Atrás quedó la espera de una solución habitacional, luego que sus viviendas sufrieran daños irreparables tras los terremotos de abril de 2014. En una emotiva ceremonia, doce familias del sector de Santa Rosa de Alto Hospicio recibieron las respectivas llaves de sus nuevas casas, reconstruidas gracias a los subsidios del Fondo Solidario de Elección de Vivienda del Minvu, bajo la modalidad de construcción en sitio propio.

Mr. Smith's notes identified this photo as being taken in the Metz, Lorraine, area, but the sign (although blurry) identifies the towns in Brittany, as Pontorson and Précey along the N175 route (S and SE of Mont St. Michel), so this photo may have been taken in the vicinity of Pontaubault, south of Avranches - early Aug. 1944. (One of my 119th veteran contacts, Mr. [Cpl] Howard Simon, went to Mont St. Michel as the driver for the Battalion S2 Intelligence Officer, Capt. Ernest Adams, on a recon trip, but they were apparently kicked out when it was made "off-limits" by the brass.)

For dailyshoot #ds49; pick a focal length and use it all day. That was a little tricky with the lens I have with me, so I went with the middle of the range.

So, I have a 40mm-150mm lens that I almost never use (favoring my 14mm-42mm for most occasions). I thought I'd pick something that I rarely use, and so I ended up at 55mm. I really didn't like most of the shots I made today, but this chance encounter with my neighbor worked out OK.
