Finding it a bit difficult to find really old things in the office, so have resorted to the contents in my handbag :)

This ia a Chinese fabric folding fan that I carry around in my handbag. The edges are fraying and it has survived a few handbags. It has come in very useful during our Australian summers. Only last week I was in a in hot concert hall with struggling air-conditioning, and I was able to raise a bit of welcome breeze for myself and companions.

Taken with iPhone 3GS with a home-made macro lens from a disposable camera.

On the back side of the photograph an old hand writing describes the three persons and the date of the shot - 1873.

An alternative could be the soup bowl. I chose the photograph because it shows better the age of the subject.

This garden hose spray attachment may be only a few years old, but the rubber on its handle is very old and perished. Clearly a more UV-safe rubber would have been more appropriate.

An alternative take on today's Daily Shoot "Old" assignment; a bit more "artsy", and a bit less matter of fact.

Took 3 shots that I really like today, can't decide which one to use for the 365. I think this one fits the daily shoot assignment best though.

This old part of town is being "redeveloped" at the moment. I think the court house (foreground) is just being cleaned so it's probably going to be kept, but the old car park (background with the cool grimy green lights) looks doomed :( In a way it's a good thing because it is a pretty nasty place, but I'll miss it. The lower level is now fenced off and the lights are turned off, but there are some big gaps in the fence and I'm very tempted to sneak in and do some light painting!

Day 46

Tonight I thought I would try to find a shot that went along with the Daily Shoot Group theme.

I saw the glow from this old pump as I drove by and had to do a quick u turn. I really liked the old car in the garage and every thing about this photo screams 1960's except the $3.25 a Gal price for gas!

Hope everyone had a great day 46

Something old and something almost forgotten. I can't tell you how many hours I spent in the dark all alone with my music, negatives, chemicals and my Beseler. I had to pay homage to this beauty for today's assignment, especially since the wife wants me to part with all this gear that I don't use anymore. How many of you have had the privilege of Darkroom work versus the Lightroom we use today?

Enjoy and remember to comment and critique.

This was the middle size of a set of three Dala Horses, bought when I was about a year old. Children have teethed on it, played with it, used it as a toy, and as a hammer. These scratches and cracks have been well earned.

My favorite lunch place features "15 soups" everyday. Today was a fish chowder kind of day. The owner has a collection of antiques and memorabilia on the shelfs in the dining room. I always enjoy looking at them when I am there. Today, while I was having lunch, I realized I was surrounded by "OLD" things! Since old fashioned root beer is my favorite, that's what I decided to feature for today's Daily Shoot assignment. Leary's and Dr. Swetts were both local companies. :-)

Today's Daily Shoot assignment- Make a photograph of something old. Be sure to show us the character that age can give a subject. #ds457 My school building has been expanded four different times, from when it was built just after WWII, up until the mid 1980's. I teach in one of the older sections. It's been home to everything from kindergartners up to fifth graders (maybe older). Parents have come for parent conferences and stand at my door slightly stunned as they experience a little "deja vu", remembering when they came to school here. It's not the prettiest school in our district, but I'd thoroughly defend its character. There's a plenitude of it!

... I don't really know. All I do know is that this jug is from the old farm house that my mother grew up in.

P1250946 - A clay brick from the materials it is created is already old. The weathering moss shows that it has been left for a period of time. In addition the marble is also old, but the processing of course renders it as new.

The slight focus issue, is because my eyes are old!

History

The half brick was original cleared from garden some years ago from the original site of a air raid shelter built with house in 1933/1934. I can only assume it was part of this shelter. The brick was probably made at the Gunville or Rookley brick works based on the Island

1/100 sec at ƒ / 5.6, ISO 1000, 170mm (AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR II, Nikon D7000)

Turns out there are some cool things about if you just look up. This camera is only a few blocks from my house behind a paint store, not sure if it works but it looks all old and rusted. Added contrast & saturated blue to make the rusty yellow & orange stand out a bit more. Clarity added, made the steel girder look cooler.

We brought these angels back from my husband's parent's house a couple of weeks ago. I like the vintage look and I'm sure we had something very similar when I was a child. I'm hoping that birthday candles will work in the little holders next Christmas. If you look closely you can see the the L broke off at one point or another.

this 22 (short?) was given to my grandmother by her dad so she had protection against rattlers when she went out riding. they lived along the WY/MT border. farther down on the stock are initials carved in, along with the words: "it's me for powder river." (am not sure whose initials are carved here above the trigger)

I have had this card for as long as I can remember. My father used to use it on an old turntable with a small strobe light to adjust the speed of the turntable for the record we were going to play.

I must admit I loved today's @dailyshoot assignment, and if I'd had a bit more time, could have created dozens of images, however in the end the lack of time means I've had to settle for two quite different images.

This one is some of the documents which make up the (old) deeds to the house. When we bought the house, the Solicitors were in the process of digitising all their records. This included all the past papers relating to the purchase of the land (5 acres, 3 roods and 30 perches or thereabouts) and the original maps and tenders for the building works, plus every conveyance document from that point onwards - giving a complete history of the house from 1900 to date. All these were to be thrown out, however we asked if we could have them, and here are but a few.

My disappointed picture. The moon was high in the sky this afternoon and I took a few shots of it against the BLUE sky! Went to upload them, and they were not there....nowhere to be found and by then it was dark out. So, I had to fall back to the @dailyshoot suggestion of something old. I was at the last volleyball game of the season and looked around. There was an old discolored ceiling above me....that became the shot you see here. I'm unhappy that the pictures of the moon did not work out as they were kind of cool. Maybe, it will be up tomorrow and I can take another set.

Spotted on the 'reductions shelf' in the supermarket this evening. Initially my curiosity was drawn to the words - Gravy Salt, but then I saw the image - it looked straight out of a 1970's magazine (colour as well) - so grabbed a quick image for today's assignment!

I decided to explore some local history, so I visited the Hacienda Cemetery in New Almaden, CA. The cemetery was in use from the early 1850's until the 1920's for the miners and family of those who worked the quicksilver (mercury) mines in the local hills.

I have a 'thing' for china. I have several sets of my own, as well as bits and pieces from my grandmother and mother. This lone plate of my grandmother's survived my pre-renovation kitchen purge. It doesn't match anything; I don't use it; but I can't let it go. It makes me feel connected to the other women in my family who also loved it.
