It's interesting to see the subtle changes in the yard as winter progresses. We've had mild temperatures for a few days. The snow banks have really dropped, exposing things, like this disassembled bird bath, that we haven't seen in a while. But it's snowing again - it won't be long until the bird bath once more disappears.

This is the result of Snowstorm #4 in two weeks... another foot of snow on my back stairs! But... it really is beautiful, and created some very cool patterns AND it fits today's Daily Shoot assignment nicely, so I'm not complaining!
This is actually a stack from the Dry Creek Power Station, on the corner of cavan road and grand junction road down here in Adelaide Australia. Back in the late 1960's this was one of the biggest gas fired power plants in Australia with 3x 55MW generators. This powered most of Adelaide while they built the bigger power plants at Torrens Island. Believe it or not but this power plant is still used during peak periods and it can also be used to help start the larger power plants on Torrens Island in case of major grid failure. When i took this shot it was actually in full swing thanks to a warm 35C day, and it was almost silent apart from the whistling of the natural gas pipes.

I love the swirls on the stacks i also love the way it looks like an rusting rocket from the old cold war days and to think this old building still works at 100% of capacity is fairly amazing.

Wife and I rented the 3rd Season of the Tudors (GREAT SERIES by the way). And it inspired me to take this picture of a cross we have on our wall.

Still playing with specular (direct reflection) lighting. Basic stuff. Set can be seen here. Shooting through white paper camera right with yellow paper as a reflector on camera left. Man it's difficult to remove dust from chrome-like surfaces!

First thing that popped into mind was the curved surface of our wok. Although it turned out different as I first had in mind, I quite like the result.

It always happens! I was about to wrap up the catalogue and make a pdf for the final checks today when we found out that there is a major change in one of the ranges meaning I have to re-do one of the pages. Doh!
Been a little sour lately in getting pictures done, so lemons seemed appropriate for the dailyshot today.

So I'm thinking today what can I take a picture of that has curves. Then I thought of all these women who are proud of their curves. So I decided to test out the self-timer on my camera (which is very cool) and take a picture of my womanly curves. With only 10 seconds to run around the bed, toss aside the focus subject, lay down, smooth out the clothes and pose, it was quite interesting. I probably lost a pound in the attempt. I also found that the camera wouldn't focus without a focus subject. I'll post that picture as well.

I've started a photography course - and it has thrown me a curve - no more shooting on automatic. I'm really trying to get my head around F-stops and shutter speed and which to set when to get what and what do I want out of a photograph? There may be some very wonky photographs over the next while (though I may cheat and use my point and shoot as I always have it with me).
I like to set myself challenges - keeps the brain cells flexible. Living lifelong learning...
There's something about ice crystals that always grabs my interest. Bought some IQF peas from Trader Joe's and this is the first thing I do with them.

First day out on the new road bike, and it will be a lot to get used to, after 15+ years with mountain bike only. The speed on the road is attractive! But I have to relearn how to stand up and climb hills, especially with the skinny tires.

I think I got both a surface and a curve in this one. Saw one of those "water droplets on a CD" photos a few weeks ago, and thought I would try it myself for this challenge.
