DailyShoot: Make a photograph of two complementary objects arranged to show their relationship to each other.

There are a lot of great combinations, but for a lot of people - CHOCOLATE and PEANUT BUTTER are tops including my family. I had a few other ideas I was going to do (but "DeforestRanger" took my initial idea :) ) but the wife insisted on this combo. Then she had a flash back to our childhood and the commercial for Reese's Peanutbutter cups. And to that I pay this homage. OH and the clean up was tastey :)

Enjoy and remember to comment and critique.

Hmm, what do do? Hand and glove? A couple of those were posted already. Silverware and plate? Boring. Then a bulb went off in my head (ha, ha ;-) ): how about a lightbulb and socket, with the lightbulb lit but not in the socket. Cool!

To get this shot, I soldered an extension cord to the bulb. Then I suspended the bulb using mono-filament fishing line. I positioned an unused socket under the bulb, got things lined up as best I could, plugged in the bulb and started shooting!

The image was processed in Lightroom, except that I did have to do a little work in Photoshop to remove the fishing line, some of the cord that could be seen, a big glob of solder at the base of the bulb, and lots of dust-bunnies that became visible when shooting at f22. Other than that, what you see is what I took!

Strobist: Vivitar 285HV, 1/16th power, camera left, snooted and aimed at the base of the bulb and the socket. I had a piece of aluminum foil to the right of the socket to provide some fill. The white background was lit with a Canon 430EX, 1/2 power, to the left of the socket, shooting through a Rosco #91 "Primary Green" gel (it's an energy-saving CFL bulb, after all), and a pitcher of water for "texture".

Nuts and crackers; husband and wife.

After the Baileys Incident my wife said she'd like to crush my nuts.

O.o

So, for this @dailshoot assignment, I took her up on it; she crushed some nuts for me.

If you're ever in NYC and feel the need to have an authentic kosher deli experience, head to 2nd Avenue Deli. I took out from there today with a corned beef sandwich and a couple of half-sour pickles. All that was missing was a Dr. Brown's cream soda. I only managed to eat half the sandwich for lunch. I think I'll save the rest for tomorrow and eat it warm. Can you say "SCRUMPTIOUS?"

I found a hidden cache of Wonder Tea 2008; thank you, Tea Fairy!

Flash camera right, 1/4 power, fired into curved white tab divider held directly over subject, producing few shadows and little glare from the metal (though the tea leaves might benefit from different light). Minor corrections in post.

Was supposed to go on a photowalk today with friends but got snowed out.

So what could make a Saturday better than a beer and a football game? (that was a rhetorical question :)

A good sturdy hammer makes a nice complement to a bad record. Now don't get me wrong, I've nothing against Leo Sayer, he was just in the wrong place at the wrong time. It was a choice between this, Cliff Richard or Richard Clayderman. I chose this because it had the bset/worst cover. And who's to say this is a "bad" record? I like to think all art is subjective and there's no such thing as good or bad when it comes to music (or photography!) it's all down to personal tastes.

The sequel to flic.kr/p/7BhJy1. I don't like the background texture, though it would be cool but turns out I was wrong. Other than that, I like it. Not much postprod. I have lots of new Japan toys to photograph now :P

Camera & Lens, just before docking. Still a bit out of alignment and in need of a slight course correction.

Today, I picked up my bike, which was getting a post-spill tuneup and inspection, from Community Cycles. So that also meant I had to gather all the other stuff I need when I ride, including my trusty U-Lock. Of course, the lock is only useful when you have the keys to go with it.

I had to do a little bike repair on the Skuut today. We lost the original nut and bolt, but this seems to work just fine.

We went to the architectural collector's store today looking for door knobs for our double door pantry closet. While our house is not even 10 yrs. old - we tend to like the old things. We added leaded glass buffet doors as transoms at the openings from our main living area to the the other areas of the house. Since the doors all have the lever handles - in shiny brass no less!, I have been wanting to change some out. Counting doors - well that sounded awfully expensive! So I am picking special doors. The pantry closet is near an opening where the leaded glass is and also has tin ceiling tiles hung as art above the doors. So we decided these might be a candidate.

We spent quite a while looking at probably 1000+ door knobs around his space in buckets, on peg boards, in drawers. I found some I liked and some other pieces. Then he tells me he won't sell them unless they are a set and the correct sets! So all that time finding finishes and designs I thought looked good together.

I had to have him tell me which ones went together as he doesn't keep them in sets - all the parts are all over the place. I settled on this one. It is from around 1860-1870.

So - complimentary. You can't get the knob without the plate that is suppose to go with it.

Make a photograph of two complementary objects arranged to show their relationship to each other. Probably not on the right association, but hey here it is

Sorry about the focus on the loco really did try, but the light was fading

Loco in x2 magnification, free hand

Double O gauge GWR Pannier, just in case you were wondering

Ahhh my girls, these two chickens are 1-2 years old, We have an understanding they give me eggs and they can run around free in the garden eating as many creepy crawlies as they like. They do a great job and as @circuscat says "they eat anything smaller then them". They may not be the smartest animals but they are ninjas constantly finding ways inside the house to eat the cats food. This pic is them sitting by the front door relaxing (its a hard life eating bugs and laying eggs".

This is for @dailyshoot s assignment #ds426 "Make a photograph of two complementary objects arranged to show their relationship to each other" . These two are good friends you constantly find them foraging together, one scratches the floor and the other one looks for bugs, then they swap roles, even if they stopped giving eggs they would still be one of the family, i just wish they would poo on the grass and not on the concrete path around the house :P

I took a shot similar to this last week, but ended up going with a different pic. So I recreated it today, since chore day came 'round again.

Too bad I can't teach my cats to clean while I'm at work.

I shot this a couple of ways - one that took the shadow out from the bucket, but I found it adds depth, so I used a photo with it.

A bee contorts itself to polinate a flower. Bees and plants; without one, the other's existence would be difficult.

I like to exercise my brain every week with the crossword puzzle in New York magazine. I am THISCLOSE to finishing this week's puzzle.

Antique glass serving bowl and spoon. A gift from my friend, Barb. This treasure comes out every year for the homemade cranberries! Many compliments on the unique shape of the spoon. Just about to put it in the china cabinet for safe keeping until next time.
