I let my environment fuel my creative process and my sweet tooth:)
CHOCOLATE PEPPERMINT BARK TRIFLE
1 Devil's food cake - 9 x 13 size, baked and cut into chunks upon cooling
4-6 cups of chocolate pudding
1 1/2 quart of whipped topping
1 -2 cups chopped peppermint bark, you can eat what you don't throw into the trifle :)
Chocolate syrup
1- 2 small candy canes
Bake cake as directed, allow to cool and cut into chunks
Combine whipped topping with chopped peppermint bark
Crush candy canes to use for garnish
You will be layering the cake, chocolate pudding and whipped topping combo.
Begin by covering the bottom of the trifle bowl with the cake, follow with a layer of chocolate pudding, and then a layer of the whipped peppermint bark topping. Repeat layers ending with the whipped stuff last. Drizzle chocolate syrup over the top and garnish with crushed peppermint canes.
Grab a giant spoon and share only if you want to!!

I am very blessed to have such a beautiful wife that inspires me in my creative endeavours. She supports me; and helps encourage me when I don't find the energy to be creative.
Enjoy and remember to comment and critique.

The tranquility of our little cul-de-sac was shattered by the wail of sirens this morning as fire trucks raced to our neighbours' house. This is a shot of firefighters cutting a hole through the snow-covered roof. Thankfully the neighbours weren't home and no one was injured. See today's 365 pic for another view of the scene.
This shot does typify how my creative process works for photography. I can usually see some beauty or something compelling when I look at a scene, but the moment I look through the viewfinder I really start to distill things and look for the essence. It feels like the narrowed field of vision through the viewfinder clears the clutter from both the periphery of the scene and my brain :-). I love the way the firefighters suddenly appeared here - through the smoke, vapour, trees and snow drifts on the roof.

i have a friend who has said that i may have finally found my creative niche in taking pictures. actually i believe his exact words were "found your passion" ~grin~ but i am more likely to use/substitute "bliss"..... took this scrabble tiles pic about 3 weeks after being clued in to the DS's existence by parkerriverkid. (thank you *so* much, patty :):) not only has the DS caused me to practice a whole lot but i gots new friends and have learned a lot of valuable photographic jargon and techniques :):) [i can now spell bokeh and create it as well :]
earlier this week (the last week of december) i asked duncan to take down a couple of pics that were inadvertantly (or advertantly??) doubles for assignments. as much as i didn't want to lose this one, i liked the marbles shot for childhood activities- so this one had to go. and then i saw deb's scrabble board and thought-- hey, i can use mine for creative process. (let's hope the tiny URL thing works.)

By now I have no educated creative process. First of all I am trying to learn and control the camera. For this photo it was the sunset light, the mountain (el Avila) and my new fisheye.

Exploring to find a good shot is one of the elements that fuel the creative process for me. While out taking photos, I stumbled onto a small stream that feeds a larger creek. It was covered by thick ice on it's edges. If I wouldn't have been exploring, I wouldn't have gotten the shot.

Too literal? =)
A more abstract interpretation is that I am driven by curiosity, wonder, and appreciation for science and the natural world.

Thought about this one....
Was it having access to so many information sources? Books? Literature? Art? Travel? Libations? Chocolate? Morning Coffee?
or is it just the joy of the challenge to constantly look at something differently and try and figure out what to do with it? Working with learners pre K-20+ and trying to problem solve their journey in the use of technology?
or finding comfort in being different?
or exploring the paths less travelled......have always went the opposite way of the crowd to see what else can be found.
but mostly the creative fuel comes from family - love and caring. Family also includes friends and those who are part of everyday life for whatever period of time they are with me. Seeing through the eyes of others and listening to their passions fuels the creative process.
Thanks to family and extended family out there who fuel my inspiration.
We try to remember to take a family photo each December. We take a few serious ones and then always some where faces and fooling around are required.......usually the best ones for memories! This year's edition is only the immediate family. We are down to one grandparent- on his way to FL, and brother and sisters with their families were not around for this time. The family is not as large as some of the others in the photo groups, but we are "large" at heart.

Often I'll check Craigslist to see if anyone is looking for a freelance photographer. Based on what they are looking for, I'll try to create a photo that may meet their criteria.
DS406 take a picture of a how/where you get your creativity. its funny how i had to think elsewhere from the guitar to come up with this idea, but a couch would be boring, driving in the snow would be dangerous and my bed is a mess from packing, so this is the best alternative.

Today was really gray and gross. But Erik had to go into work at Warm Beach. I was excited about the opportunity to go with him, even on this gray day. I knew that there would be beauty all around. While Erik worked, Roswell and I went for a muddy walk along the dike. It was raining, Erik was sure that I was not going to get out in that with my new camera and my even newer lens. But, I just put a plastic bag over the camera and headed out, knowing that there would be lots to see.

For one thing, I am fueled by getting outside. Today I walked 19 miles, taking Fossil Creek Road all te way out of town, and here at this point, where it curves on its path down Fossil Creek Canyon, dropping 1800 feet in 4 miles.
But mostly, I feel fueled when I look at things sideways, at a different angle, or just differently,

Well, the @dailyshoot tasks provide quite a lot of fuel!
The original color of the lights is blue (top) and yellow (bottom). I pushed the Black Point up to 9 in Aperture to get rid of the soft lights in between and used a very strong copper toner and the Holga template In Silver Efex Pro.

Made this while trying out the selective color technique for my blog ApplyFilter. My aim is to try a 100 different photo techniques in a 100 days.
After I started the blog I have been shooting way more photos and trying out new things. Some of the things I try works and some does not, but it is always interesting and a learning experiences.
For me it is extremely beneficial to have a purpose/goal when being creative. This is what I get from my blog and from things like dailyshoot.

The creative aspect is in the process, not that the result is very well illustrated here. I think that when it comes to shooting, finding the right frame is a creative act. In this case, I would have missed the shadows on top if I hadn't tried to avoid an ugly edge at the bottom.
An obstacle is always good food for creativity.
Tomatoes are good food. Period.
