It's been 50 days already!
Today I had enough time to shoot something involving a little more work so I decided it would be a tribute to one of my favorite photos : Dustin Diaz's 100th on his 365.
The daily shoot today is : "What can make a photograph feel moody to you? Illustrate your answer today" and this is perfect because I find the light colors bring mood to a photo, so, that's it. :)
Strobist info :
Setup shot is HERE.

OMG... I swear, I am thankful I workout. My wife is a fabulous baker; and with most bakers, this is the season to bake. It sets the mood of the holidays for us. The sweet smells coming in from the kitchen. And to top everything off, today she made a Hot Cocoa that Judy the Elf (Santa clause movie) would be proud of. We got a small collection of her cookies she has made over the week (mainly today) and the mood felt like Christmas. Only 14 more days till Santa really comes.
Enjoy and remember to comment and critique.

Macro Mondays Theme - Drive Me Wild
Most of the pics I post have been cropped, and many i have "doctored" with 'Auto Levels' in PS. This is the first SOOC I have posted! So, I am driven wild twice with this one!

I've practiced controlling feelings i.s.o letting feelings control me... for long enough to not figure out any more what would make me feel moody.
According to stress researches shouting out feelings straight forward without reflection accumulates stress. I believe - out of tested experience :) - that this is valid and either eases our daily life or the other way around in a number of occasions. -Let's take facebook statuses as an example... When you feel stressed, tired and hate the freezing wind on your way to your work - think about these two options:
1) You write: "I hate mornings, Mondays, the winter... Even coffee isn't strong enough this morning."
2) Or: You let the feeling arrive and begin to fade and write: "What an interesting meeting we'll start soon. With all of us present, we'll solve anything!"
Which one do you think will bring more smiling faces waiting for you when you enter the meeting room ;)
What made me pretty close to feeling moody this morning was this row of beer bottles at the local supermarket: From the U.S, China and Brazil. In Finland. Not much have we learned re. minimizing our personal carbon footprint. Sigh.
We have very nice breweries in Finland, like www.laitilan.com/english/ :)

Finished the shooting I took a look in the LEO dictionary: I may have misunderstood "moody". I didn't see it as "bad mood". My photograph is the contrary: anticipating today's invitation to a vietnamese evening (food, stories, photos and friendship).
Envisioning warmer weather! Just a little digital fun thinking "outside the box, here!"

Moody? Yes! Missed two Christmas parties, no food in house, and no shopping thanks to this blizzardy Midwestern storm! Of course, Minneapolis got it a lot worse. At least, our roof is still in place!

This is really not a good representation of my view of 'moody' but I just wasn't in 'the mood' to take such a shot today - why create a dismal and gloomy scene when it's been a relatively upbeat, bright and happy day? So, though this may not really illustrate 'moody', candles and their illumination always help to create a contemplative environment. Naples, FL

Low light, shadows, cold colour hue all set the mood for this shot of water freezing in the bay.
P.S. The photographer was injured taking this shot. Fortunately, the lady with the brittle bones, who fell through a snow bridge between two large boulders, was only bruised and embarrassed ;-)

With so many colourful Christmas lights around, and a lot of darkness, too, bokeh pictures seem to appeal to me these days.

the cat really wanted to be left alone to look out the window. her tail kept whipping back and forth and she was not happy that i had the camera out. she was even less happy that mr bubbles was occupying her space. all she really wants is for me to go take a nap, so she can cuddle up!!!
yeah, i know moody is supposed to be all dark and somber but i can't help it- i am a cheery sort, so moods are rose-colored, unless i am tired/grumpy >ggg<

Dark B&W shots always feel mysterious and brooding to me - even if the subject is something as innocuous as the local mall parking lot.

and the sun will rise to greet another day,
somehow this emptiness won't stay,
somehow there's hope not far away"

The low hanging fog in LA made for a gloomy or somber looking photo, but its even bleaker with the Holga filter in Silver Efex Pro.

I tried to suggest that coloured light can add mood to a photograph (I took 'moody' to be the neutral sense as opposed to the negative sense).
I also tried to have strong red AND green light in the picture... but only the red showed well. If you look closely at the catchlights, you'll see my DIY softbox half-covered with red tissue paper and half-covered with green.
The dog destroyed her soccer ball a few weeks ago, and today is sits in the middle of the backyard looking sad.

Contemplating time.
Moody to me implies dark, foreboding, contemplative. I used one directional light, a shorter shutter time, and converted to black and white. (An analog watch may have been more appropriate, but this is my primary and favorite watch, solar powered.) Also I did a little post-processing to get the watch display to be visible despite the dark lighting.

Mid-December. The concert is over, the audience heads out into to rain, grateful that it isn't 4 degrees colder - and icy.

Shot a gig at the Asian Art Museum in SF. It was a beautiful location, with stunning artwork and architectural elements. Unfortunately, those same beautiful elements made the logistics the hardest for an event I've shot. I now have a setup for an event that I don't have a way to shoot in a way I'm happy with. Been wracking my head to figure it out and I've yet to come up with something feasible.

For me it's the matter of subtlety. The scene's mood, in my opinion, depends on what you see as much as on what you don't see with your eyes. Your mind must add the rest. The usual tools that help here are: light--I tend to use positive exposure compensation when "mood" is needed, and shallow DoF--it really makes the obvious less obvious.
YMMV

We don't have a fireplace but I love the mood that a fire burning in a fireplace exudes. This is a picture of my television with a CD playing of a fire burning that we bought one year for Christmas. The picture itself isn't that great but it still puts me in a good mood.

When I read this assignment I immediately thought of dark, ominous, unhappy. But as I went through the day, this art installation at the National Air & Space Museum Steven F Udvar-Hazy Center felt uplifting and much lighter. I figured that is a mood too.
I feel that many things express mood in a photograph. From expression, focus, lighting and treatment. I liked the soft tones and expression in this example.

When my daughter was growing up and didn't get her way she would pout and in those days would have been a prime example of "moody". One year I bought this ornament which says "You Better Not Pout" and hung it in her room. She quickly removed it with stated she did not pout. Fortunately, she has outgrown that phase and I no longer attempt to hang this in her room.
