"Illustrate or show depth of one kind or another in a photograph today."
Hmm. I'm cheating. This doesn't really show depth, unless you count the shallow depth of field. I wanted to go outside and do a landscape shot with everything in focus front to back, etc, but it is blustery and grey. I decided that staying inside in my cozy wool socks was the better option. Depth of field, it is.

Brenda gave each of us this Christmas ornament "Special Friends" ..... we really are all special friends .... don't know what I would do without them =)
it was a great weekend. Our daughters, son-in-law and potential son-in-law were all in town together for the first time.

This morning's mock meet at my daughter's gymnastics club. It's the first quasi-competition of the season where the athletes can run through their routines without the usual rigamarole of judging and awards. Today's @dailyshoot assignment was to Illustrate or show depth of one kind or another in a photograph today. I took this shot to also reflect the differing depths of interest - in the foreground, a competitor's younger sisters, playing cards and paying zero attention to the competition, an athlete captured in a moment of her beam routine, and in the distance the parents and other audience members with their eyes on the action.

Basked in blue, this blue heron wades deep in search for a breakfast morsel. It was low tide on the bay and the old oyster beds were exposed offering fewer hiding places for heron's prey! City Dock, 12th Ave S & Naples Bay, Naples, FL

It doesn't look like much. Some mundane hillside you passwithout thinking.
But those lines mean something- time, long passages of time. If I got anything from my years of studying geology, it was an appreciation for spans of time that do not even make sense on a human scale.
In this hillside are eons (maybe) of rivers flowing past, meandering back and forth, drying and flooding, animals living/dying, entire generations coming and going... and all this stuff of importance, is a blink.
Time is deeper and more incomprehensible than anything

There were two other photographs for the assignment: www.flickr.com/photos/rvoegtli/5234948650/ and www.flickr.com/photos/rvoegtli/5234948642/. I prefer this one :-)

The depth... green pepper stuffed into the meat, quite deep. Meat roasted until the heat penetrates deep inside to make it cooked yet still juicy and not dry. Photographed to emphasize the shallow DoF

This allows the whole person to integrate and consider the knowledge they have acquired unconsciously or subconsciously, which is, according to most scientific studies, more than 99% of our total knowledge..."
