This is my family - The Bidgoods. Starting from camera left: Jessica (stepdaughter), Anne (my wife), Me (Bruce), Katie (stepdaughter). Katie is the one who drew the finger people on Anne's fingers and built the diorama, we are going to use it as our xmas card this year :)

for a while i did a lot of genealogy for my dad's side of the family, since there are so few people in my generation, since my grandmother's brothers either never married or had no children. it has been rather fascinating to trace them as they went west from new york state thru ohio and minnesota to nebraska and then on to wyoming.

these are my paternal great grandparents. am not sure if the lace was actually made by lucy maude, pictured here with her husband vincent, but it came down thru my grandmother who was the only girl in the family. under the picture is a small bit of tatting that had gotten singed being in a frame in direct sunlight.

I asked Mom to try and repeat her pose from her high school yearbook (if you need help, that is on the right, a scanned image).

She disagrees, but I see her as exactly the same (she keeps muttering a warning... "coming attractions!")

Catching up a little with family and friends, impromptu shot. How did I get 5 kids (not all mine!) to look up with concentration? They are all viewing a DVD on the drop-down player, and the camera is beside the screen! Sorry since taken on Sunday - tried to duplicate the shot yesterday at night with little success.

I'm totally cheating! I told Liam what the theme was and asked him if he could think of something. He asked if he could do something on Bitstrips. So that's Liam with his creation - a picture of Liam, Rob, and I.

Delicate and precious. So tiny when you look at only one, and so beautiful when they're all together. Hard to see where one ends and another starts.

Strobist info: for a subject that small a flash light is almost like a softbox :) There is one SB900 zoomed to 200mm above the subject, bare, 1/128th power. Triggered by the camera flash (non-contributing). Shutter speed of 1/500s makes it a high-speed sync photo, which makes the flash light fall off so rapidly it does not even reach the background. This picture has not been taken in total darkness :)

Wasn't very inspired by the assignment today so i thought i'd take a picture of a tree. But this tree (or what's left of it) is in some small way connected to my family as it is in the village where i grew up and my family (on my mothers side) have lived for over a hundred years. It is a very interesting tree too. There is a plaque beside it which reads:

TILFORD OAK

FORMERLY CALLED NOVEL'S OAK

THIS OAK TREE WAS FOR LONG HELD TO BE THE FINEST IN SURREY AND MAY BE AS MUCH AS 800 YEARS OLD. WILLIAM COBBETT CALLED IT "BY FAR THE FINEST TREE THAT I EVER SAW IN MY LIFE" IN 1952 IT MEASURED 26 1/2 FEET IN GIRTH AT 5 FEET FROM THE GROUND

Sadly over recent years it has been dying back and is coming to the end of it's long life.

Some 87 years ago, this photograph was taken of the Muir & Lucey families in Dubois, WY. My mother now holds the photo and points to herself as a toddler. The spirit of family is sent via phone calls, emails and Facebook status updates...rarely as a photographic portrait anymore. Naples, FL

When I think of my family (especially the kids) in summer - I think of the kids, in the pool, having fun and playing/splashing around....

My niece and her husband came up from Pittsburgh to spend Thanksgiving with us. This was their first trip to NY and they enjoy hiking and camping. So we took them up to Lyons Falls for a hike and to give them a taste of the Adirondacks.

So, I cooked for my sister's daughter and my sister cooked for my son as they are both in AZ spending the holiday with my mom!

I didn't know what the assignment was for today until after our walk otherwise I would have tried more shots of all four of them but this was the only one I took.

I didn't notice the peace sign on the rock until I uploaded this image.

when my family gets together we are all too busy to think of photos - untill it is too late to capture the meal or most of the people. Here, a table set up in the largest room of the house because we would not all fit in the dining room. A lot of enthusiasm, a few friends, a stray student, and family. Poorly organized, happy, inclusive, and a little messy: that's my family.

"For this Thanksgiving and each day my wish for each of you is to experience the gratitude that unlocks the fullness of life. Gratitude turns what we have into enough, and more. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos to order, confusion to clarity. It can turn a meal into a feast, a house into a home, a stranger into a friend. Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today and creates a vision for tomorrow."

Happy Thanksgiving to each of you and your family!

Making the conecctions between families and generations is important to build secure sound roots to a family. I can trace some of mine back to 1590, from a small village in Derbyshire where the family still runs the same Inn it did way back in the 1600's. The photos also represent my new family as the wedding is my husband's parents.
