"Graffiti is unwanted by many, but can be visually interesting. Find visual interest in something you don't like today."
Now that I re-read the prompt, I didn't HAVE to go with graffiti. [Ah - Crow just informed me that the prompt was changed. That makes me feel a bit better.] I did, however, go into bustling downtown Tilbury this evening to track some down. Our graffiti is rather sad and pathetic, but I did think I could work with this.
In my travels I picked up a semi-related tip for the graffiti 'artists' here: when there are only about 6,000 people in your town and you have a unique name, spray painting said name on a wall is probably not the brightest move. Just sayin'.

2010/11/17: Graffiti is something you can find almost anywhere. Make an interesting photograph of some graffiti and post it. #ds367
There is about one place around where I live, where I know there's some Graffiti. It's a pedestrian tunnel under a main road. So I asked my wife to to bring the camera when she picks me up and we stopped there on the way home.
I specifically wanted to shoot this from the side, but it didn't turn out as I thought.

Call me spiteful, or compassionate. I live close to a city and I could go and shoot a local "HWDP" graffiti, but I won't. There are DS photogs who live way way way (way way way way way in case of Crow) from cities, and they can't find graffiti nearby.
So, kids, instead a history lession. What you see here is called a CD booklet. This is a part of what used to be the medium for music before the Internet and iPods were invented ;-)

Graffiti is something you can find almost anywhere. Make an interesting photograph of some graffiti and post it. #ds367 www.dailyshoot.com - I couldn't get out to find some, so a co-worker made me some on a whiteboard. Then there was a debate about whether or not it was graffiti. Wikipedia defines graffiti as "...images or lettering scratched, scrawled, painted or marked in any manner on property." Although I'm sure that's not an official definition, it's good enough for me. :)

...which is a completely different assignment! Oh well, maybe i'll take another photo...

Guess I just read the first sentence and neglected to read the second one...or was there a change in the assignment between my first look 12 hours ago and now? At any rate, time is of the essence today, so will keep this as my submission, since it does have some visual interest - even though, I do love books! I haven't read this young adult title, but graffiti is rare in my town, so thrilled to find an image of it on this book cover (Trash by Sharon Darrow). Lorenzo Walker campus, Naples, FL
Daily Shoot - Today's assignment morphed from graffiti to find visual interest in something you don't like today. I had decided to skip the assignment the first time I read it. Good thing I checked back!
This was a discarded shot from this morning that I re-visited when I read the addendum to today's assignment. Intended to be abstract, this is an unfocused shot, taken through a screened and rain-spattered window, of high winds blowing the remaining leaves from a birch tree. Like the gales of November, the shot is ugly, but there's something about the texture and mood that hold the eye.

The reason why I see this graffiti unwanted is that it has appeared by a nice seashore promenade in Espoo. It badly tangles the tranquil atmosphere.

I can't say I don't like this graffiti. I'm ambivalent towards it. I sat next to the road until a car was coming and then did the long exposure. I thought the car lights cutting through the picture made it more visually interesting.

Okay - 11.5 hour day going to work in the dark and home in the dark, no dinner planned, and no way to find graffitti on an expedition - so made some myself on the napkin at dinner. There.

No littering either. No spitting. No making fun of dogs. No.... nothing.
"Find visual interest in something you don't like today". Here is something I don't like on two levels. 1. The cookies, from a fancy local bakery, were served with coffee at a meeting this morning. Several were nibbled, none were eaten. They were dry, almost powdery, and flavorless. I didn't like them, nor did anyone else. So, 2. the rest of the cookies went into the garbage! They were pretty on the plate, and might be considered visually interesting here, so there was some virtue in them. (But not much!)

I surely enjoyed Graffiti back in the day, when a stylus was a stylus, and a Palm PDA ruled the daytimer! And to think that you could draw pictures and enter text with a touch screen way back then! A Blast from the Past!
However, when I pulled this gem out of storage, dusted it off, and charged it up, I was amazed at how cumbersome the stylus was compared to the built-in pointer I now use with the iPhone. I've tried some gesture-based input apps on the current Apple devices, and still come back to the software-based keyboard. It just works. (Granted, the Graffiti gestures came back pretty quickly, though.)
Progress, eh?
P.S. Kilroy was here.

2010/365 - Day 321
After I went looking for grafitti, and then re-read the assignment and realized I didn't need to shoot graffiti I found myself here. I enjoy spending time with animals, but don't like the fact that humanity feels the need to create zoos for our entertainment or education. I think this spider monkey at the Riverside Zoo in Peterborough knows what I mean. I actually shot it, and ended up liking the blurry feeling this little guy is portraying.

if you will notice my front lawn behind the hydrangea, this is mother nature's graffiti and most of the leaves have come down overnight. the leaves are unwanted by me and the lawn guy has promised that they *will* come and blow them away and clean my gutters. having someone else do it = a small indulgence i allow myself now that i am retired :):)
yes, frank, i opted for this shot vs #2 because it had a hint of blue with the pot on the right, amongst all the browns, oranges, and tans. this is SOOC and on automatic focusing-- whoo-hoo!!

Okay, so…I live in a place where there isn’t really too much graffiti and, it was such a long day that I honestly didn’t want to fumble around in the dark to find some! Soooo…time to make some, with the help of Cait. Meet Rai, a cat. Okay, so I do actually like this, perhaps I failed that part! Oh well, them’s the breaks eh? Enjoy!

In our region, a great deal of times individuals are refered to and discharged yet are never taken to district imprison. Be that as it may, there is a capture for each situation whether they're taken to province imprison or not. That as a rule occurs after they give the principal breath test and more often than not they are set in cuffs. As we proceed onward in our discourse, when we allude to a capture, it by and large means when somebody is placed in binds. When somebody is captured for DUI, on the off chance that they have a California driver's permit, that permit is taken by the office captured them. In return for the driver's permit, they're given a pink sheet of paper alluded to as a DS367, which is a standard frame from the Division of Engine Vehicles. It's pink and at the best it has a spot where the officer writes in a bundle of data, including driver's permit number. Additionally, there's a ton of pre-printed, little print data and a great many people don't set aside the opportunity to peruse it intently. Be that as it may, it says you have just 10 days to ask for a hearing with the Division of Engine Vehicles. In the event that you don't ask for that hearing, your permit will consequently be suspended following 30 days. In this way, from the date of capture, after 30 days your permit will be suspended on the off chance that you didn't ask for that hearing. The original wording fits better as I do in fact like this drawing. I should also admit that I deliberately had dinner at the Medici on 57th for this assignment, knowing I'd find drawings on the tables.

This is a little box that I've had for a looong time. It contains stuff that I've hung on to since I was a kid. Collected coins, photos of friends from high school and other treasures. Not worth money, but treasures nonetheless.

Not sure that this is as "illicit" as some definitions I found seemed to require, but it's certainly qualifies as "markings, as initials, slogans, or drawings, written, spray-painted, or sketched on a sidewalk, wall of a building or public restroom, or the like"

I don't like graffiti so I did use it for the the subject ... I've seen this graffiti before and I can't help but be drawn to it firstly because I can't figure out what it means and also I kinda like that little check mark and I wonder if it means anything.

This picture was taken near Gardel's house in Buenos Aires. The grafitti is huge, striking. When I stopped to admire it, I noticed the father and kids approaching. I had to take that pic! The little girl pointing to the wall was a plus to what I wanted to capture.

I'm frustrated with this image to be honest. I read the prompt for the day about 7:15 AM CST. I live in a small city without much in the way of graffiti, but this silo immediately came to mind. It did because I have been wanting to shoot it for months but have been waiting on the light to be right. The light was not what I wanted today, but since it fit the prompt I shot it anyway. Now, I get home after dark only to discover that the prompt was changed in a way that would have lead me in a totally different direction. I wouldn't have even shot graffiti at all. I hope this kind of thing doesn't happen often with the prompts.

I wanted to create a very deep, meaningful shot. Unfortunately, I had a hard time finding any graffiti (and was shooting before the addendum went out), so I had to settle for something that was only literally very deep.

Just another local shot I've been meaning to take and never got around to. I tried a shot during the day, but it didn't feel appropriate when it was well lit. The hard light really makes this shot work.

I'm not happy with this shot and was going to try again tomorrow. But then decided I have to just let go and use it. I have a lot to get accomplished the next few days and redoing a shot should not rank up at the top of the list. :-) Not much graffiti around us so I pulled out this cookbook from my childhood. I know I'm dating myself with these pictures! But it shows that I did a little defacing myself. I do love the little pixies and the soft colors of the drawings.
