Symmetry can be calm and soothing. Make a photo today featuring symmetry, either in subject or composition.

The linear symmetry is offset a bit by the circles in the iron gate and the scalloped clamshell fountain beyond. Though I would expect balance and predictability in symmetry, I'm not sure that 'calm and soothing' are typical characteristics. 3rd Ave S & 2nd St, Naples, FL

Thank you Logista for the topic, and giving us the freedom of interpretation. I went with a symmetrical subject and asymmetrical composition.

I walk through this parking lot daily to get my morning coffee and thought it would make be a good shot for the assignment.

I made no submission for Daily Shoot #ds312 which was to take a shot that showed symmetry.

This morning, reading Susan's (@susanvg) "Through My Eyes" blog entry, I was inspired to use PhotoBooth on my iMac to take a symmetrical shot. Fun to do and something that would be fun for students in a class to do when doing a unit on symmetry.

My plan was to showcase the symmetry in the curtains (actually it is two towels, I have been to lazy to fix anything else), and in the process I wanted to practice balancing existing light with flash. Black and white turned out to be the only way to go as I don't have any colour correction gels.

I'm not a huge fan of perfect symmetry, but I love symmetry that is imperfect. In this building, I particularly liked the angled light above the door and teh peeling paint on the right side.

I'm not a fan of spiders, but thanks to a telephoto lens I can watch this one expand its kingdom from a safe distance.

Not sure if this is symmetry or after finishing it is seeing double? ;-)

Wasn't sure what I was going to do today but when I picked up these cookies for my daughter I had an easy answer. She's not a big fan of sweets but Half Moon Cookies are one of her favorites.

PS: The bathroom cabinet. I was late in tonight and didn't have too much to choose from. I had to shoot with the flash mounted on the camera since the wireless controller was not working properly. :S

During postproduction I heavily changed the tone curve to accentuate the contrast between shadows and light.

Time for me to get a book on mushroom identification. I am fascinated by them, they have been so prolific this fall.

Utterly uninspired today, I just chucked something vaguely symmetrical that I had handy in the lightbox and took a few shots...

The street numbers in these few blocks don't match anywhere else around. All the houses are consecutive and way out of sequence for the rest of the area. I think that, somehow, they used the builder's lot numbers and not the street addresses.

Also found there are about 5-6 empty lots left. There are 2 builders models for sale. And one house has a sherif's sale notice (and a realtor's sign) on it.

this building has always intrigued me- maybe it is the mellow color or the obvious care that was taken in its construction details..............the sign in the lower left window, i discovered when i saw it up close, says "hot yoga". isn't that a contradiction in terms?
