IMPERFECTION: Weekly Photography Challenge. I wanted to show something that's almost perfect, but it's not--it's IMperfect. All the crystal, and reflections, and delicate form with a missing ear...
Two exposures combined in the camera. Both 1/15th of a second, both with aperture f/7.1, but one focused right on the subject, the other one intentionally out of focus (focused at infinity). Light source in the first shot (the focused one) was coming from camera left a little to the front of the subject; for the out-of-focus shot it was directly over the subject. The light was not a strobe but a LED flashlight. Does that qualify for Strobist? I guess not...

In July I opted for a tiny little glass object:

This time I went looking for something big and dramatic. This office wall was just that. The reflection of the outside world on the darkened one-way windows was like a huge natural mural.

How can one resist shooting Waterford crystal? I only wish I had the lighting set up to properly do it justice! Shot against a black backdrop with natural light coming in through a window.

This shot was inspired by the beautiful glass work I saw on display this weekend at the Peak to Shore Music and Art Fest. Since I was busy manning my own booth I didn't take my camera with me, and was very sorry when I got home and saw today's challenge. This is a shot of part of the scene on a glass plate, in front of a glass vase, filled with glass beads. (These items are not normally grouped together, but during my kitchen renovation nothing is where it should be).

Small pyramid I got in Mexico. It’s sitting on top of an SB-600 pointing straight up, with an old Vivitar 273 off to the left to brighten up the front face, especially the steps. There’s white paper behind, but it might as well be anything.
I asked the (very nice) crepe stand guy if I could take pictures of his register. It was hard to get a good angle to make the glass interesting, without preventing his customers from queuing up. He requested that I use sepia tones for the cash register "to make it look REALLY old." :)
The glass did not end up being the focal point of the shot (per the assignment), but I still like the picture.
After taking this photo, I enjoyed one of his plum confit crepes.

I bought this vase at the Bouckville Antique Show yesterday. I saw it at one of the first booths but it was $20. It's certainly not something I need but I thought the color green would look good in the kitchen. But for the price I passed on it and wandered to the next booth. Lo and behold there it was again and this time for $1! That's my kind of price. :-)

Today's Daily Shoot assignment #280: Make a photograph of something made out of glass. While on a short weekend getaway, the morning weather didn't look too promising. But the day did clear up, and we got to go to Harrisburg, PA for a quick walk around the Capitol Center.

Myself and a crepe customer are reflected in the curve of the pear soda bottle, and our reflection is mirrored on the top half of the same curve. Sky in the background. All of this also appears on the boysenberry soda bottle too, with some blur.
One reason I like this picture is because the glass is a dark brown, unlike many of the other dailyshoot submissions for this assignment.
