Today I was hired to shoot the SwimKidsUSA club swim final meet at Chandler High School. I had shot this last year so I had an idea of what to expect and it was quite similar. While the swimmers were lining up for the relay, the sun was preparing to set. I got several nice shots off with the sun. This girl slowly prepared for her last swim meet of the year.

I've been working a lot with composition lately, including positioning. I thought this was appropriate for today's daily shoot. This photo paid particular attention to balance with some implied motion between the hand and the empty (negative) space.

I like the concept of this shot - the black eyed susan will fully open for the first time today. I'm not so sure about the execution. I composed for negative space, to leave room for the petals to reach for the sun. I think there may be too much empty space. Something about this shot doesn't sit right with me. Please see my 365 pic for today. Although it doesn't meet the requirements of the challenge, it's a much more powerful story.

I'm not 100% happy with this shot, but I do like the negative space. I feel like it gives the biker room to breathe, but not so sure it's balanced. I also flip / flop on the focus. Sometimes I like the motion blur of the rider, and sometimes I wish I had done the bike in focus and blurred the grass.

Nocturnal Flora
I tried something on a whim here: photographing flowers at night. There is a pretty strong light from the house that illuminates the garden. I exposed this for 8 seconds. Maybe a second or two more would have made a more striking image, but I happen to like this.

This picture is a re-visit to the location and subject of Horizon from Day 58, back in the winter season. While I think the original presents a more bleak and desolate image, there's still a bit of "standing by itself" in this tree now, even during the en-leavened summer months.

Paddling in PEI, I was struck by the patterns on the water of concentric circles constantly in motion. It was a very interesting effect, and makes for a neat background to the nose of my kayak.
