I love these wildflowers, (chicory). They grow anywhere and last all summer. I took my macro lens and tripod on my trail walk this morning to capture this gorgeous blue. I set up, focusing on the stamens, when this little insect just popped into the frame. There wasn't time to change my aperture setting so I quickly tried to refocus on the insect and then just pressed the shutter. The insect definitely enriches the 'story of blue'.
USA 0-6-0T no. 30061 stands at Eastleigh in 1956 where it has been overhauled and repainted in the current BR black livery. It is possible to see under the new paintwork the previous numbers and lettering of the loco including the original US Army number 1264.
The locos were built in 1942/3 by Vulcan Ironworks and H K Porter. They were purchased by the Southern Railway for use in Southampton Docks in 1947 with all but one loco being built by Vulcan. The exception was 30061 which was constructed by Porter. After replacement by diesels in Southampton Docks, 30061 was renumbered DS233 and shunted at Redbridge Sleeper works until withdrawn in 1967.
DS233 stored ready to be towed away for scrap. April 1967. This had been allocated to Redbridge sleeper depot and recently replaced by a diesel shunter. A couple of standards complete the picture.

Title says it all.
Strobist info: Used "FP" (as in Flash Pulse) strobe mode. One SB800 zoomed to 105mm camera left at manual power setting of 1/4th, through a CTGB* gel :) Triggered by the camera controller unit (non-contributing). Shutter speed selected to nuke out the ambient light, aperture selected for shallow DOF.
Postprocessing: it's not desaturated in PP. I did minor cleanup of the background (my shirt reflected some of the light there) by an adjustment brush (-4EV) in Lightroom. Then, increased marginally the exposure and increased blacks for more punchy message. Increased saturation of blue and cyan (+10 or so).

Having entered service in 1942, this USAT 0-6-0T no.30061 worked most of her life at Southhampton Docks. In October 1962 she was withdrawn from general service to become a ’Service’ (also known as ‘Departmental’) loco and was re-numbered DS 233. The number she bears here in May 1966, as she sits on Eastleigh MPD (70D). Finally withdrawn and scrapped at Cashmore’s of Newport in July 1967.

Singing the empty bottle blues. Saying that makes me think of a song....
Bell bottom blues, you made me cry.
I don’t want to lose this feeling.
And if I could choose a place to die
It would be in your arms.

Blue is my favorite color and it has been the focus of many of my photos from the sky (and even) to the blue M&Ms. There are a number of bright blue houses in Old Naples, but I really like this little guest suite with its Jim Rice's "Siesta Suite" fish! 7th St & 8th Ave S, Naples, FL

I was taking a walk on the beach, and what did I find? Why, a blue lightsaber on the sea wall, of course. Shot with iPhone 4, processed in Lightroom. I'm really impressed with what this little camera is capable of, especially where macro detail and bokeh are concerned.

I've been obsessed with water lately. Who hasn't? Mainly accidentally yesterday, this film came to my attention. Some of it is technically hard to watch, but the message is powerful and makes me wonder where we were sleeping in 2005, while another part simply wants to cry.

I took several blue shots today and first considered just the blue trailer off to the side of this old gas station turned tourist center but then decided that I liked all the blues in this shot. I enhanced the color in Photoshop to make the blues pop a little more.
We spent the day traveling a short part of Route 66 in Illinois. We've been here before but this time we looked for some different spots and enjoyed places like this that were closed when we stopped last year.
