The Daily Shoot #ds227: Make a photograph of something circular and crop it within a square frame.

This was taken looking into the Frank Assisi Garden next to the Old North Church in Boston, MA.

Today's daily shoot was a Square Crop of a round subject. This seemed to fit.

FYI ,I realize it's washed out, couldn't fix it. Welcome suggestions.

6/30/10..........after taking tons of pictures of circular objects between 5 and 7 this morning, i looked at them all and decided that what was needed to address this prompt was one that was *not* pretty or "normal" and this is what you got .

during phase 3 of the kitchen redo, the electrician rerouted the wires of the rectangular digital thermostat to the other side of this wall and under that thermostat was the shape of the original round analog one, as well as layers of wallpaper and paint from various decorating incarnations. since the house was built in the late 40s, the wallboard is of the sturdy cement variety, which has wrecked havoc with various saws-all blades. i haven't patched the 3 inch diameter kitchen archaeology sampling yet, cause the unearthing is kind of interesting.........

5/15/12........ODT topic-- round...........

i do miss the dailyshoot for getting me to take pics that i might not have considered.

wonder how duncan and crew are doing??

Looking up at the dome in the San Francisco Westfield Shopping Centre. This 102-foot-wide skylit dome was built in 1908. It was blacked out during World War II and neglected in the decades to follow. A few years ago, it was jacked 60 feet into the air while the Old Emporium department store around it was demolished. The dome was restored and incorporated into the new shopping complex that opened in 2006.

Shot as a bracketed set of -1, 0, +1 EV. This is the +1, although I think my metering was confused because it's looking into the light. I liked the brightness and detail in the molding in the +1 EV version, which was lost to the shadows in the -1 and 0 EV images. Cropped to 1:1 and converted to B&W in Lightroom.

I was attracted to this scene by the light and the swaying motion of the hydrangea blossoms in the breeze. It speaks to me of lazy summer days, lemonade and a good book on the porch.

Everyone in the machine shop recently started bringing in their old Polaroids to show off and compare models. Some pretty funny looking cameras showed up. Fun stuff. I guess you could call this yesteryear's pocket camera. Here's the full shot flic.kr/p/8eA3E6

I had insanely little time today (worked 7:30-22:00) so I had to do my shooting after dark on the way home. This is a subway station lamp.

This is my first DailyShoot with a cell phone (iPhone 4) and my first processed in iPhoto (I usually use Lightroom, and occasionally Photoshop). I’m pretty happy with the results, but it won’t replace my Nikon/Adobe workflow any time soon!

The best part of waking up. I liked the idea of cropping out a portion of the circular subject.

A small part of a much larger plant I received as a house warming gift. It has practically taken over my kitchen table.

Today is a special day because it's the last day of getting up for work, until September. Now I'll get up for other reasons like gardening, or perhaps I'll get up to view a celestial event! I picked up my first scope! I'm lucky to be the summer custodian of a 200 mm (8 in.) f6 SkyWatcher Dobsonian with 50 mm finder and a couple of eyepieces. Can't wait to try it out, after waiting so many years.

It was really tricky to take a shot down the tube, all kinds of weird reflections, plus i'd focus and then it would be blurry!

PS. Haven't had too much time today. I'm about 8 minutes past midnight and I was dining some watermelon when I (luckily) 'saw' the photo for today.

Lots of wildlife pics today but not much to choose from for the Daily Shoot! This is a gas tank for a tugboat on the Mississippi River in Buffalo IA. I did a lot of cropping for this shot so the quality is not too good.
