Todays challenge for the daily shoot was Time to revisit a traditional photographic look. Make a black and white photo with high contrast today.
So I took a few shots in the city and this is the one I liked the best

my daughter gave me this watering can charm a few years ago because of my gardening hobby. i think it is so sweet and did not really notice the engraving on the spout until i took this macro shot. i have worn the charm on a chain around my neck but never have put it on the charm bracelet i've had since i was a teen.

I guess when your bike is old and has a flat tire people don't steal it, but this lock isn't going to do much more than secure the front tire. If you look closely, the wheel behind it is locked the same way, but there isn't a bike attached.
I pumped up the contrast quite a bit post-processing.
Last night, I saw a Twitter update from one of the coffee spots in Medford, Downtown Grounds (@dwntwngrnds).
'What should we feature as our daily drink special tomorrow?' they asked.
'Mayan Gold!' I tweeted back.
Problem is, they don't have a drink named Mayan Gold. So, they invented one and made it today's special.
So, feeling responsible and obligatorily thirsty, I jumped in the car and puttered down to try one of the aforementioned coffee beverages. Quite tasty for an imaginary drink...
Afterward, I tooled around downtown Medford looking for things that might look interesting in a black and white and high contrasty sort of way. That's when I saw the raven (okay, it might be a crow but - for my purposes and in the interest of making the photo title make sense - it's a raven) perched above the entry to a local pub.
The clouds reflected in the windows, the old brick, and the silhouette of the bird made me step on the breaks and jump out of the car. Dodging traffic has become something of a side skill as a result of these Daily Shoot challenges.
While I was taking a string of photos at varying settings and distances, a man whom I will presume was Howiee rumbled out of the door and asked if he could help me. While his accent wasn't nearly as Brooklyn as I would hope, he visually fit the part of a surly pub owner. After explaining my purpose, he nodded his permission and shuffled back into his watering hole.
So...
'Once upon a Spring day, cloudy, while I was sipping coffee loudly,
Spied I a black bird perched above a shrouded tavern door.
'Alas!' I cried, 'thy form shows drama. Await so I can grab my cam'ra!'
With growing thoughts of contrast, showing black and white galore,
Should I, exposing light to photo sensors, pictures store?
Quoth the raven, `Nevermore.'

I was out for bus duty this morning and the sun was just barely getting over the roof of the apartments across the street.
I took this photo with my iPhone using the CameraBag app.

One of the wheels from the old bicycle I decommissioned into yard art. I'll probably donate the wheel to the thrift store.

High-contrast b/w for DailyShoot #ds130: breaking the rules a bit. Took this photo a few days ago, and I just love it. Wanted to show it off. Not true b/w; no processing at all, so there are some touches of color. Taken at 10AM with bright, powerful sunlight on the fountain. Almost hurt to look at it. I like the hints of color in the foreground and the far shore.
There's nothing better than a good bath in the backyard after a rough day of napping continuously.

Black and white was easy, but high contrast is not a look I usually go for. I took quite a few shots this morning and processed them with high contrast but they didn't work - I was trying to force something I didn't see in the first place. That prompted me to take another quick walk, but this time I looked for contrast. It's partially cloudy and grey today, but the light on the water attracted me to this spot. (I didn't add a vignette. This is how dark the water was when the light fell off). Then all I had to do was wait for the swans to fill it :-).
