You've surely heard its sounds, but maybe you haven't seen it yet: This, kids, is the Real Deal™ — the happenin' drum machine of the Techno era, Roland's TR-808 Rhythm Composer.
These are the tools I use to perform live with. Two Akai MPC 1000 with upgraded hard drives and the JJOSXL operating system.
After Vehicle Derek (actually in parallel for a while) I formed a group with my brother called Big Chief Fail. We had no drummer and used a drum machine instead.
For the first few gigs our drums were on tape, and this is it. We played it through the PA using an old personal stereo which I had wired up a footswitch to so that I could start and stop it between songs.
This is the sort of short tape that studios had to record two or three songs on.
This was recorded by Andy Faulkner at Sable Rose Studios in Coventry, which at the time was his bedroom. We took our Roland TR505 over there and recorded these drums using his Roland D-10, which we thought had better sounds.

currently have the leds working and being controlled by puredata (http://puredata.info/). Only one of the leds is wired incorrectly, but I think it should be easy enough to resolder (knock on wood).
Something is going wrong in my switch parallel to serial conversion though, need to debug.
This my apartment in Kingston... Nice and clean and Ikea minimalist. That's my old Powerbook on the desk. She is editing videos on my old dual G4... Oh yah, there is also an iMac DV behind the white chair with holes.

To protect the Gauntlet, we wrapped it in archival Tyvek. This is a special material that has a slight electrostatic charge on it that repels dust on the outside and attracts dust from the insider of the unit. It has to be held together with special Tyvek tape. It's expensive. Ton's hidden, doing all the work (you can see his knee) , while Judith supervises.
