On the west side of the village Vleuten is the ancient Ham-tower on an island in a canal. This seven-story donjon is the remnant of a water castle, knight-hof city of Ham. For the first time in a document from 1325 mentioned castle was initially built as a residential tower. The castle was able to exercise the owner power of the surroundings. Several cases were Den Ham deployment of battle. In 1481 it was partially destroyed, then it was expanded to include a second tower. In 1536 the States of Utrecht recognized the castle as knight-hof city, the residents were then admitted to the Knighthood. In 1642 the gatehouse was rebuilt giving access to Den Ham. In 1857 the castle was owned by Willem Jan Royaards. One of the current owners is a descendant of him.
Around 1872 the castle wrong in dilapidated condition and was, at the western keep and part of the east wing after aborted. Between 1962 and 1975 the tower was restored. Today the tower is private property. The moated tower has five feet thick brick walls about 27 meters high. On top is applied include a bypass and the total height is approximately 35 meters. Inside, it has six floors and a basement with medieval girders are preserved.

This brewery complex was built in 1883 by the architects Scammell & Collier of Leeds. It cost £150,000. It is an excellent example of a large scale Victorian tower brewery. Tadcaster once had 4 breweries. Brewing on a large scale began in the 1880s. It flourished here because of the lime-rich spring water. It was excellent for making a light bitter (beer).

The White Cloth Hall is an important historic building in Leeds city centre in England. Between its construction in 1775–6 and partial destruction in 1865, the hall was one of the most important marketplaces in Northern England for the sale of undyed cloth.
WCH is located in a Grade II-listed landmark on Crown Street, just behind the Corn Exchange. It occupies a Grade II listed building with a long and interesting history.
This part of town was once a popular nighttime destination but has declined over the years, with more closures than openings.

The Rising Sun pub in Castleford, England, has some interesting features:
Historical Significance: The building was designed by Charles Voysey, a celebrated architect influenced by the Art Nouveau movement. Many original features reflecting this style contribute to the restaurant’s lovely ambiance.
The Interior originally had a Billiard Room and Library, now replaced by a bar. Recent alterations include Edwardian-style fittings and stained-glass windows.
A 20th-century building that combines elements of traditional and Arts and Crafts architecture. The conversion from a Miners' Institute to a pub reflects changing social needs while preserving the historic structure.

The Mexboro Arms Hotel in Castleford has an interesting history. Established in 2017, it now houses The Twisted Tree, a delightful restaurant and bistro located on Whitwood Common Lane. The building itself has historical significance, having once been the iconic Mexboro’ Arms Hotel.
The Twisted Tree: This charming establishment offers rustic breakfast, lunch, and dinner options. Their varied menu features dishes prepared using locally sourced natural ingredients of the highest quality.
The restaurant is situated on Whitwood Common Lane, which lies along the A655 between Normanton and Castleford. You’ll find it at the corner of a slightly offset crossroads of Whitwood Lane and Wood Lane, right across from the Rising Sun. Look for the name of the old public house, The Mexboro’ Arms Hotel, displayed on the front of the building.

The 3rd White Cloth Hall is an important historic building in Leeds city centre in England. Between its construction in 1775–6 and partial destruction in 1865, the hall was one of the most important marketplaces in Northern England for the sale of undyed cloth.
After construction of the two prior white cloth halls in 1711 and 1756, there was a meeting in 1774 to plan the building of yet another cloth hall in Leeds. Most of the money for the scheme came from the wealthy Leeds merchants, and a site was found on a piece of land called the Tenter Ground in the Calls. The hall was built around a large central courtyard. At the northern end of the courtyard, the hall was two storeys high, with assembly rooms on the upper storey. The Hall was built at a cost of £4,300, and opened in 1775.

Queen’s Mill, previously known locally as Allinson’s Mill and before that Castleford Mill, is the world’s largest stone grinding flour mill, boasting twenty pairs of stones.
Although it’s not a listed building, its historical significance and importance in the local community span over 900 years. The earliest written mention of a mill in Castleford dates back to 1093, and flour has been produced on this site almost continuously since then.
The mill sits on the banks of the River Aire in Castleford, Yorkshire, and is a prominent reminder of the town’s industrial past2. Recently, it was awarded a grant of £900,000 for renovation and preservation.

The Lonely Lens
In West Yorkshire’s somber cloak, he roams, A solitary figure, rain-soaked and forlorn, His lens a companion, capturing ancient stones, As storm clouds gather, memories reborn.
Leeds, where raindrops trace forgotten paths, He walks the cobbled streets, eyes keen, Old buildings whisper secrets, weathered laths, Their timeworn faces etched in silver sheen.
Wakefield, by the Calder’s murmuring flow, He seeks solace in archways, damp and gray, Raindrops cling to history, stories aglow, Each click a tribute to a fading yesterday.
Castleford, where industry’s echoes remain, He frames brick and iron, shadows of the past, Rain-kissed chimneys, memories intertwined, His lens a bridge to time’s relentless grasp.
Halifax, perched on Pennine heights, He climbs rain-soaked hills, heart alight, Dark skies mirror his solitude, endless nights, Photographing ghosts, their whispers slight.
Huddersfield, where the Cloth Hall stands, He captures weavers’ dreams, threads of yore, Rain-streaked wool, tales woven by hand, In sepia frames, resilience at its core.
Bradford, once bustling with looms’ refrain, He immortalizes mills, rain-soaked beams, Their faded grandeur, a melancholy strain, His art a hymn to forgotten hopes and schemes.
Dewsbury, where the Calder’s waters flow, He gazes at rain-soaked spires, silent plea, Whispers of love, loss, and lives long ago, In each frame, West Yorkshire’s legacy.
So raise your lens, lonely man of rain, In darkness and storms, your purpose clear, Old buildings, weathered souls, memories sustain, Through your eyes, their stories persevere. 📷💧
