The Tintina Trench is a large valley extending through the Yukon Territory for about 450 km. It has its origin from the Tintina Fault which represents the Yukon continuum between the Rocky Mountain Trench in the northern United States and the Kaltag Fault in Alaska. The river you see is the Klondike.

Drone video that I took today with my newest drone, a DJI Spark. This drone is very portable and quick to launch and pack up.
Lake Rotoiti, previously also known as Lake Arthur, is a lake in the Tasman Region of New Zealand. It is a substantial mountain lake within the borders of Nelson Lakes National Park. The lake is fed by the Travers River, water from the lake flows into the Buller River.
In Newfoundland, well off the beaten path, there are many little hidden jewels like this one here.
Otter Pond is fed by the much larger Lake of the Hills. And Otter Pond Brook … part of which you see here in this video … flows down into Lloyd’s River right where I’m parked. Lloyd’s itself flows through King George IV Lake Ecological Reserve, on down into Red Indian Lake a few kilometres from where this video was taken, and then the mighty Exploits flows out of Red Indian down into the ocean. The Lloyd’s/Exploits is the largest river system in Newfoundland.
If you think we have a lot of freshwater in this province of Newfoundland and Labrador, you’d be right. There are 31,340 square kilometres or 12,100 sq miles of it …. covering 7.7% of the total surface of area of the province and accounting for 3.5% of the actual freshwater area of Canada. Very little … if any … of it polluted. A very precious resource … which will no doubt become even more precious as the years go by.
We spend quite a bit of time exploring this region and the surrounding area … during all seasons. It’s not totally isolated but only rarely do you see anyone else.
As a little side note to that, though, last May 22nd about 4 kilometers before you get to this falls we came upon an RV parked along the side of the road right near the river. That was a little unusual … especially at that time of year. We went on past, checked out the falls, took a few photographs, and then headed back. On the way, we stopped and chatted with the folks who had just been getting water out of the river … pristine, unpolluted water … remember. It was a young couple from Germany with two little twin ( I think) boys about 3 or four years old … and a dog. They had shipped their RV from Germany into Halifax, crossed over into Newfoundland by ferry and were planning on travelling to St. John’s and then turning around to drive completely across Canada … then up into Alaska … and then perhaps down into Mexico for the winter. Quite an adventure! Oh to be young again!
To get to this out of the way place they had to make a right turn off the Trans Canada Highway on to Route 480 (The Burgeo Highway), then part way down turn off on this dirt road you see here. The road does eventually meet up with the Trans Canada Highway again near Badger … but it’s not exactly smooth driving. Guess they had checked it out on Google Earth and wanted to get off the beaten path. Anyway, there wasn’t much room where they were parked … and they were right by the river … so we told them if they drove another 3 or 4 kilometers they’d come to this scenic falls … a bigger area to park and trees on the right as a safety barrier from the river.
We often wonder how they made out and if they are gone back home by now.
Music: Terrier Waltz by Nat Keefe and The Bow Ties. Bluegrass style music seems to suit this area.
Enjoy.

A video I took while flying my drone. The boats all returning to the boat ramps after spending a Saturday afternoon out on the Indian River Lagoon. Sadly, the entire time I was there I was the only person wearing a mask. Expect to see an uptick in the number of coronavirus cases in Florida in a month or two if the Governor doesn't suppress the numbers.

Happy Halloween!
Mt. Hood at sunrise on Halloween...BLOOD RED (ok, orangish-red, sigh), bwaahaaaahaaaaahaaaahaaaahaaaaaaa...
Taken by drone this morning.
We've lived in NW Oregon for 33 years, give or take a few months. Prior to moving to Oregon, we spent a few years in Virginia, just outside of Washington DC. Anyway, I loved the incredible lightning that we experienced in the sky over Virginia. It would streak horizontally across the sky and then it would fork in many vertical bolts, simultaneously streaking towards Earth...a race to the ground!
Later, while living in NW Oregon, I commuted (for 6-months) each week to Boca Raton, FL, flying along the boundaries of the Gulf of Mexico, dodging mushroom-shaped storm clouds that had INCREDIBLE forked lightning.
NW Oregon, at least in our tenure in this region of the US, just does not normally have this type of lightning storms. When we do get a "normal NW Oregon lightning storm", it lasts 5-10 minutes and may shed a dozen or so bolts of lightning...then it's over.
That all changed this past weekend, as we had a storm with Virginia and Florida style lightning bolts, with one exception. As the storm marched towards us, the horizontal lightning was amazing, as was the flash-lightning that was taking place between multiple layers of clouds, but never showing us the lightning bolts, but INCREDIBLE flashes of light. WOW!
As day turned to night, I lost my chances to capture the lightning with my nature camera and I began to bemoan the lost opportunities that were being displayed in the nightscape, hidden behind our forest of Fir trees.
It just seemed logical to see if I could capture the lightning with my drone and, in this case, it worked.
I shot this pic with my drone as a video and then I extracted this frame from the video.
I was pretty nervous sending my drone up to see if I could capture this lightning storm, but we NEVER get lightening storms like this in our part of NW Oregon, and this was a CRAZY active lightning storm, so I went for it and just hoped that my drone would not get drenched in a sudden rainstorm, or that my drone would not get hit by one of the dozens and dozens of lightning strikes that this storm was bringing forth.
Good news...I ran out of battery and had to land the drone about 30 seconds before the heavens opened up and drenched us with rain and hail. The drone didn't get wet! AND, the drone did not get hit by lightning, nor did my antennas on my drone controller attract the lightning, so I didn't get hit and am now having fun telling you this story.
So, not the most spectacular lightning bolt, but I do like that it is totally sideways. And, I was able to test out my drone as a lightning capture device...AND IT WORKS...but with a bit of rolling shutter, which I thought was kinda weird, as I've never experienced rolling shutter with the drone before, but I guess it's a result of a totally black scene being interrupted by a massive amount of light? Who knows?
Some drone video I took at the beach today. The waves are a little higher than usual due to Hurricane Florence. The storm is 500 miles away, hard to believe it has an effect on the waves here but it does.

Some drone video I shot last month at the beach. I'm fortunate to live near a stretch of beach that is never crowded and social distancing is possible. For those of you who don't, sit back, pour yourself a glass of wine, and enjoy.
A drone tour of La Gaspésie and La Côte Nord.
I made this video after a 3 week trip. I tried to transcribe the vastness of the bare landscapes of Quebec. It is a simple contribution but I hope you will like it!

Drone video I shot of clouds building as they move in over the Treasure Coast from the Atlantic. This is about 20 minutes of video compressed into a little more than a minute. The clouds building is especially evident in the upper right of the screen. You can also see a rain shower in the distance as it moves over the landscape. There was a fairly strong wind blowing in from the ocean and the drone had some difficulty maintaining position. There is no sound.
