Florida East Coast ES44C4 822 and 810 draw their train forward at Fort Lauderdale as an Air Canada flight takes off in the background whilst the scrap lorry driver wonders what I'm doing!
New to Mitcham Belle and later with Metroline, Dennis Dart / Plaxton W134 WGT spent a number of years working in the fleet of Grant Palmer, Flitwick and was subsequently sold to a individual based in the Dunstable area providing PCV driver training. The vehicle is seen here parked in High Street North, Dunstable in July 2018 still retaining it's Grant Palmer colours.
A LNER driver training run ( I think ) is seen passing Inveresk with 800202. 800202 is working 5Q92, 0941 Craigentinny/1003 Edinburgh Waverley - Newcastle driver training run. This was on a dull 8th October 2018 at 1011

"Macro Mondays" Square
Pair of Robertson screw drivers made to use with Robertson Screws. This Canadian invention allows the user to hold a screw on the end of the driver and then use one hand to deliver the screw to the spot you are aiming for, using just one hand. The slight taper on the driver, wedges into the screw for a secured hold. This is far superior to the Phillips screwdriver in common use in the USA. The Robertson also delivers a lot more torque without damaging the screw driver tip. I have had to replace many Phillips screw drivers but have in over 50 years of using the Robertsons, I have never had to replace one. (Maybe that's why they have not caught on elsewhere.)

Park Royal bodied Atlantean 7921 had not long left the service fleet when photographed here on Pottery Road, Wigan on driver tuition duties. It had been based at Manchesters Queens Road depot but had migrated to the training centre at Atherton where it bolsted the training fleet to cope with the extra number of drivers that were being recruted at the time.It would later receive a subtle revised training livery, indeed the only bus to be so treated under GM Buses north.

This week saw me welding up the driver seat box. The original top is mow permanently welded to the new lower half. Graham cleaned up the base and gave it a coat of red oxide. Sadly there was no time left to fit it this week. Also spot the red paint on the seat frame, the unit was broken and had been for some time. I quick zap with the welder soon put the frame back to full health and with the weld ground back there is little sign its been welded.

Jeff Altenburg (Born December 10, 1962) is a professional race car driver born in the USA. He owns 15 National Championships in both amateur and professional racing.
Jeff has competed in the BF Goodrich Trans Am Series, the Neon Challenge Series, the American Le Mans Series and the GrandAm Series.
In 2000 he won Rookie of the Year in the BF Goodrich Trans Am Series finishing 3rd in the driver's championship with four podiums including a 3rd place finish his very first Trans Am Start in Sebring, Florida. From 2002 until 2008 he competed in the SCCA Speed World Challenge Series racing as a Mazda Factory Driver for Tri Point Motorsports, first in their Mazda Protege Touring Cars and then in their Mazda 6 Touring Cars, winning the Touring Car Championship in 2007. For 2010, Jeff will drive for Momentum Race Group in their Camaro SS in the Grand Am Continental Tire Sportscar Championship in the GS class.

This driver was too impatient to wait for the police to open the intersection, so she drove into the crowd of 5,000 marchers.
An estimated 5,000 people turned out for the march to protest the Kinder Morgan pipeline, which will bring crude oil and refined petroleum from the oil sands in Alberta to Vancouver, British Columbia, presumably to be shipped to China. This will increase tanker traffic in and is a danger to our already threatened marine life in the Inside Passage, where two recent spills in two months have already occurred this year. An estimated 5,000 protesters joined the march, from the City Hall to the downtown library.

Both First and Stagecoach are heavily advertising driver recruitment at present as the supply of willing driver recruits dries up.
There are a number of HGV and van delivery firms also vying for drivers with Pizza Hut offering £100 in cash to anyone who joins them.
69131 promotes driver vacancies on its Barbie patchwork panels. Note at £400 a week it is almost a £10,000 less a year than the last advert shown last time pre changes to terms and conditions.

The front seats of cars are popular settings for panoramas; On one hand you have the challenging confined space (and panorama photographers like a challenge), and on the other hand you have the car industry that actually spends a whole lot of money to on marketing their products. Nevertheless, in the more than 10 years I have been doing panoramas, I have not shot a single car interior. Until yesterday ;-)

Boardman Local Schools 26 - 1995 Wayne Lifestar FE - Retired; Bus Yard - Boardman, Ohio. Bus has been retired and used for parts since the 2006-2007 school year. It was replaced with a 2008 Thomas Saf-T-Liner EF. It retired due to rust problems and corrosion. One of originally two Lifestars in Boardman's fleet. Taken on the last day this bus was on the lot. It was towed out to be scrapped. This is one of the last Lifestars to be in existence in Ohio. Originally, this bus and it's twin were bought from Myers Equipment Corp. after being either obtained from the Wayne dealer in Ohio; TESCO in Oregon. Both were possibly stock units or demos from TESCO. Another near-by school also ended up with one of these Lifestars around the same time. The body on this bus was completely rebuilt in-house by the mechanics a few years before retirement. The bumper is from a 1977 Blue Bird All American FE that was once in the fleet and most of the body panels were ceiling panels reused from a 1977 Blue Bird All American FE, former bus 42. Originally, this bus was equipped with a side emergency door but when the body work was done, the door was taken away and windows were put in it's place. Bus was used by one driver during it's career at Boardman and was used as a spare bus for a short time before retirement.

Stagecoach Cumbria & North Lancashire's depot in Carlisle has recently received a £3 million investment into new buses for Carlisle.
Built in Britain, the new buses feature the latest Euro 6 technology to lower exhaust emissions. They will improve Carlisle’s carbon footprint as they use less fuel than the buses they will replace. Whilst green by nature; the buses feature a unique dark blue and chrome colour scheme designed especially for Carlisle by top design house Best Impressions, with each route identified with in different colour.

The dedicated spare vehicles, which are also deployed on other services based at Carlisle, are painted in a generic rainbow variant of the livery. Optare Solo SRs 47958 - 47966 carry this livery.
The 26 new buses for Carlisle's town services hit the road on Saturday 20th June 2015, allowing the withdrawal of the Dennis Dart SLF 4/Alexander Enviro 200 vehicles which were purchased new just last year. These vehicles are believed to be cascading out of the region, and it has been suggested that Stagecoach Yorkshire and Stagecoach Midlands are two divisions to benefit from the intake of these fairly new vehicles.
Today 179 came back from Hanover displays having had its destination screen fixed. Always when the buses come back from there they have the old destinations programmed in as Hanover must still have 2007's screen list on their computer system. Here we see N179 DWM showing Driver Training L.

We were going to be tracked by Dr. Ian Henderson?? of the UNSW driver safety unit for years. I'm still alive, with an accident free record, apart from one little dingle from a spin-out on the Jenolan dirt road on a later caving trip in Mum's Standard.

I must not have been as good at the practical, they didn't teach fast driving on winding mountain dirt roads to Jenolan Caves!!
Then I got a Beetle and learnt all about oversteer on gravel roads, on many caving trips around NSW and WA.

Driving Tip of the Week
A defensive driver is one who drives in a manner to prevent accidents, regardless of other drivers' faulty driving or non-compliance with traffic laws; one who is careful not to commit any driving errors himself and makes makes allowances for the lack of skill or judgement, or for an improper attitude on the part of another driver, one that does not allow hazards of weather, road conditions, absence of signs or signals to involve him in a collision or dangerous situation.
A defensive driver is prepared for the unexpected at intersections, from parked cars, where reversing, sudden stops by others or darting pedestrians. He is not caught in that last-second futile attempt to avoid an accident. He has a plan for his own and others' safety. This plan involves the ever-changing situations faced on the road.
He learns to overcome personal inadequacies and those of the vehicle. He studies the environment for hazards that cannot be eliminated, but which must be compensated for.
A defensive driver can arrive at a destination having experienced the minimum number of incidents.

Is there such a thing as a road accident?
Not a crash, or a collision, or an impact, or a head-on, but a genuine accident. An incident, perhaps fatal, which qualifies as a pure accident.
The sort of event where no-one is really to blame, and where fate or luck or whatever is the only explanation for a crazy out-of-kilter happening....
He goes on to explain why the road safety experts don't think so....
I wish the the press and NRMA would stop calling them accidents...
