Dressing table and bench, on display as part of the "Jazz Age" exhibit at the Cleveland Museum of Art in Cleveland, Ohio, in the United States.

Léon Jallot (1874-1967) was the preeminent Art Nouveau furniture designer in France. Jallot designed several dressing tables ("bureau de dame") with pylon legs and flip-top inward-inclinded upper surfaces in the Cubist style.

This particular dressing table was designed in 1929 by an unknown artist in the employ of the New York City department store of Lord & Taylor (est. 1826). It was purposefully modeled on the designs of Jallot. The table and bench are of joined wood, lacquered in bright red.

Inside the Paterson House on a walk around the Halswell Quarry with a Flicker friend. March Christchurch New Zealand.

This building was part of the working quarry.

The workshops built in 1912 housed a newer, bigger crushing plant. The single men’s house (now visitor centre) was built in 1921 to replace the wooden one that was destroyed by fire in 1920.

Paterson House above the main entrance was built in 1927 for the then manager, Mr Ned Paterson and also as a show home to demonstrate how the quarry stone could be utilised.

Waddesdon Manor, Oxfordshire.

Visit to Waddesdon Manor (HP18 0JH) in September 2015. Usual National Trust stately home but with some problems for the photographer. Inside light very low (to protect furnishings etc.) and often very yellow. Lot of work to get some reasonable shots to put here.

Nice grounds and worth a visit. Exotic bird aviary, modern sculptures and older statutes to look at. Good cafe and restaurant but can get very crowded.

Shooting photographs through black wire mesh is never easy.

Would recommend.

I inherited this dressing table from my grandma a few years ago. Last year I asked my dad to fix it up for me as a Christmas gift. And he did.

Seeing it every day brings back a lot of memories of my grandma, how she used to roll up her pantyhose in a very precise way before placing them in the top drawer, how she peeled apples with the knife against her thumb, how she looked so little on that very big bike she rode everywhere. Good memories.

Owning a dressing table also makes me feel like I could be in an episode of Dynasty. And as everyone knows, there can never be too many moments in life when to feel like that.

McIntosh and Co dining chairs in a set of four. They have been fully restored and feature back rests with a beautiful wood grain and black vinyl seats.

They can either be sold as a dining set along with a matching McIntosh dining table or sold separately.

A vintage Prior London monocular microscope made in 1951 and miraculously still in working condition! Comes with two objectives and one original mahogany box.

A collector's item - with a paper label on the back of the door stating its production year and serial number.

GONE - This low, curving vintage cabinet is the ultimate multi-tasker. It could work at the end of a sofa, offering space both for a lamp and other things, with its drawers giving you hidden storage. It's a MUST to have somewhere you can sweep everything into when your in-laws are coming over in 10 minutes. Or it could do the same job between two single beds. Or it could be a small but practical dressing table; hang a mirror on the wall and you're done. It's loquacious; it could help you think of more ideas.
