In a scene of utter destruction, a robot sits before a damaged vanity mirror and dressing table, tightening screws and oiling his face. Mel Hunter is said to have named his robot “the last man” and documented his robot’s adventures on no less than sixteen covers of F&SF magazine, beginning October 1955 and ending May 2003. It's unclear if "the last man" was ever connected to a story, other than the stories imagined by the covers.

American illustrator Mel Hunter (1927-2004) was renowned for his contributions to science fiction and fantasy art. Born in Oak Park, Illinois, Hunter’s early life was marked by hardship, but he channeled his experiences into his art. He began his career in the 1950s, creating illustrations for major science fiction magazines, including “The Magazine of Fantasy and Science Fiction,” where he produced many memorable robot covers. His signature robot, often depicted as a skeletal steel figure wandering through desolate landscapes, became iconic in the genre.
Mel Hunter’s work extended beyond science fiction, encompassing technical and scientific illustrations for clients such as Northrup Aircraft, NASA, and National Geographic. His unique blend of technical accuracy and imaginative flair earned him a nomination for the Hugo Award for Best Professional Artist in the early 1960s. SCE_5499 Waddesdon Manor, Oxfordshire.
Visit to Waddesdon Manor (HP18 0JH) in September 2015. Usual National Trust stately home but with some problems for the photographer. Inside light very low (to protect furnishings etc.) and often very yellow. Lot of work to get some reasonable shots to put here.
Nice grounds and worth a visit. Exotic bird aviary, modern sculptures and older statutes to look at. Good cafe and restaurant but can get very crowded.
Shooting photographs through black wire mesh is never easy.
Would recommend.

Back to work today which proved to be a little emotional for personal reasons but I'm glad I was there.
My head is still pounding which is really driving me mad, but the rest of my symptoms are finally passing. At least I'm starting to look more human.
Had a phone call this afternoon from the playschool that Imogen will be attending after her third birthday at the end of the month. They gave me a starting date for her in April, it was such a double edged sword, I want her to have fun, make friends and become independant but that also means my baby is growing up.
We do have to get her potty trained before she attends, we had started in January but she couldn't grasped it, she was becoming scared of going on the potty, we put her back into pull ups and are going to try again in a couple of weeks, wish us luck, I think we may need it.
