A view of New York's Maritime Hotel from the pool of the Dream Hotel next door. Both are visually stunning.

My world is moving so fast right now. I'm realizing I can do anything.
In December I'm going to Boston for my best friends birthday, and then to the town of my dreams, New York City. Then Washington DC. I'm beyond excited to finally explore the world.

Let Hair Down, a.k.a. Kanami Kusajima, one of the most amazing artists you will ever see in Washington Square Park, where I once called home and where I got my start learning photography many, many years ago. Honestly, she is one of the most fun and engaging performers I've seen in a long time. Her dedication to her craft and the joy she exudes during her seemingly daily dance performances in all extremes of weather (she recently performed in a snow storm!) and performing and advocacy in the face of stern opposition is a role model for all artists.
I have since moved away from my city, but visit as often as possible and I noticed that somethings have changed in the park over the years. It feels safer and cleaner! That's a plus, but it appears to have come at the price of the park losing a lot of the vibrancy and character it was once known for and the type of park I remember from the early 2000s. It's relatively more sterile, if you will. On the relatively warm, late December day that this set of photos was taken, it was kind of hard to find many artists, buskers, and street performers.
I mentioned "stern opposition" because if you take the time to follow Let Hair Down's socials and go down the research rabbit hole it will lead you, her experiences in NYC confirms that something has changed in, not only my beloved Washington Square Park over the course of the last 15-20 or so years, but cities everywhere: artists, buskers, and street performers being pushed out for many reasons, intentional or unintentional, such as through local ordinances, being priced out, etc. It's a problem everywhere, but Washington Square Park is one of the most visible and iconic cultural landmarks where this is happening. It cannot afford to lose its artists. So no matter if it's New York City, San Francisco, or wherever you live, please support your local artists!

Extra! Extra! Read All About It: New York Comic-Con Unleashes a World of Wonder and Imagination!
New York, NY - October 12, 2023
In the heart of the Big Apple, where the skyscrapers touch the heavens, a different kind of spectacle descended upon the city that never sleeps this past weekend. With capes flowing, lightsabers aglow, and masks donned, the annual New York Comic-Con took the Javits Center by storm. This city, known for its cultural diversity and boundless creativity, played host to one of the world's premier pop culture gatherings, and it did not disappoint.
The weekend kicked off with an extravagant cosplay parade that brought together heroes, villains, and characters from every conceivable universe. From the towering Hulks to the dashing Spider-Men, it was a visual feast that left spectators in awe. Elaborate and meticulously crafted costumes paid tribute to beloved icons, showcasing the dedication and artistry of the community. Who knew Gotham's Dark Knight and Star Wars' Princess Leia could share the same sidewalk? Only at Comic-Con.
No Comic-Con would be complete without a trip to the sprawling showroom floor. Vendors, both local and international, offered a treasure trove of merchandise. Action figures, comics, exclusive collectibles, and pop culture artifacts, as far as the eye could see, were on display. It was a shopper's paradise, and those lucky enough to attend seized the opportunity to snag limited-edition items and immerse themselves in a collector's dream.
New York Comic-Con is not just an event; it's a pilgrimage for enthusiasts of all things fantastical. Whether you're a casual fan or a dedicated aficionado, the convention has a way of making everyone feel at home. Cosplay knows no bounds, and conversations span across galaxies, embracing diverse perspectives and backgrounds. At Comic-Con, fans discover that the love for these stories and characters binds them together in a world where anything is possible.
As the curtains close on this year's New York Comic-Con, the city is left with a lingering sense of wonder and excitement. From the incredible costumes to the electrifying panels, it was a celebration of the human imagination and the power of storytelling. Until next year, when the geek culture tribe reunites in this extraordinary melting pot of dreams and fandom, we'll be counting the days.
The Vessel at Hudson Yards finally reopened to the public at the end of October 2024 after three long years. I finally got a chance to visit this New York City gem for some night photography. At night, this landmark turns into something out of some futuristic, sometimes alien, science fiction dream.

Meninas lindas hoje é meu dia de leitora no blog Le Vernis, que a queridíssima May me convidou pra participar.
To tão emocionada gente, passa lá pra ver!!

No one - Alicia Keys

Diem Le, "The American Dream", digital photograph,2007,_Diem Le's Collection_,Kennesaw, GA.
In early 1975 the upper and middle class of South Vietnam who left Vietnam in fear of the new government to the U.S. as of political reasons.
Accoding to Joe Ferry in "The Vietnamese in North America","The U.S. Census, a survey of the nation's population taken every 10 years, indicated that in 2000 there were 1.1 million Vietnamese people living in the United States. From 1990 to 2000, the Vietnamese population in the United States almost doubled in size. ",and that "People of Vietnamese descent living in the United States account for about 10 percent of the Asian American population. "(5)
This pictures I took at a church in GA of a group of second generation of the Vietnamese Americans in America. These children, their parents I know, most of them left Vietnam during the 1980s as of economic reasons. After the war ended, the communist government didn't manage the coutry economy well. There was the long war and there was those persons who good at fighting run the country. Many peole find themselves poor and hungry. During the 1980s, people secretly built boats and save or sold their properties to keep with them because they wanted to escape Vietnam. Their destination is to come to America for they heard of "the American Dream" where they could find jobs and their children would have a better life. Most of these people escaped by boat, the majority of them ended up in the United States of America, but many of them got killed or raped by pirates at the sea. Many Vietnamese ended up in HongKong,Indonesia,Philippines, Australia and European countries that government allowed them to stay. "Since the 1970s, on average between 25,000 and 40,000 Vietnamese per year have come to North America. In just three decades, this large-scale immigration has increased the Vietnamese presence in North America from a few hundred to more than a million."(5) In another word, those Vietnamese people wanted to leave their country after the war and they hoped for a better life esle where.
As we see in this photo, the children are dressed in Vietnamese traditional dresses, called "ao dai",transalted in English, means "long dress". Vietnamese people wear that kind of dress usually in special events as to remember their culture. My mother personally thinks that is the best kind of dress she has ever seen, and it is her opinion. But many Vietnamese families I know love to wear that dress and they are very proud wearing it. It's part of their culture, and dressing is one way to show it. If you see any Asian dressing like that, you'll know they are Vietnamese or at least having some relationship with the Viet people.
