I'm home for the weekend, but took this New Year day when I stopped by the house to grab a few things. The parking lot is where I stop when I have a trailer and only staying for a few hours. It's only a couple of miles from the house. Kmart was here, but closed a few months ago. Anyway, I was leaving but wanted to get a picture of the mountains and clouds, I noticed a father with his kids playing with a radio controlled car, this being one of the few places nearby with a little dry pavement, and competently empty... well, except for the big semi and trailer.
Southern Pacific GP40-2s No. 7672 and 7632 pull a 40-car 2UT08L on through Riverton, Utah on Aug. 30, 1996. The merger with Union Pacific is just 12 days away . . .
A pair of ubiquitous Burlington Northern GP38-2s pull two loads of grain on the Anacortes Branch west of Burlington, Washington the morning of June 29, 1995.
The local would drop the two loads at Nutrena Feeds on Avon-Allen Road a few additional miles up the branch.
This grain elevator complex (Draper Valley Farms) still exists along Hwy. 20, basically as you see here, although it appears abandoned and forlorn in the present.
After setting out one and picking up three at Intermountain Farmer's, the Sandy Local is ready to depart Draper, Utah on Aug. 15, 1986.
This shot shows Kellie and Joshua while we hiked the bridge loop trail in Draper, Utah. They are looking north toward Salt Lake City, with lots of suburban houses on the skyline. We hiked in the morning so much of the mountainside was still in the cold shade.

This is a view from below the spire of the Draper, Utah Temple. An interesting play of shadows and shapes from this perspective.

From one of the wonderful mornings at sea last weekend, together with the white-tailed eagles (Haliaeetus albicilla).
We met 17 of them in total that morning, among about 1/5 of the islets surrounding the island I´m from.
This one is a male, ringed and called N4 62, and it was nearly 9 years old when I photographed it.
It was ringed in a nest in Tysvær, one hour and so by car south of the island I'm from called Bømlo, where it has spent its adult life.

Union Pacific’s LUF51 local crosses Pioneer Road in Draper, Utah on Aug. 22, 1989. Beginning late in 1985, this main line saw very little through traffic when the UP was granted trackage rights on the D&RGW between Lakota Junction in Orem and Grant Tower in Salt Lake City. Today, this route is owned by Utah Transit Authority for light rail use.
Leading the way west at the sweeping curve near Defiance, OH is Q171, with a Heritage 2, first generation GEVO veteran at the helm.
Q171 is a North Baltimore to LA intermodal train, primarilly made up of Schneider and JB Hunt donestics. The train turns into Q-NWHLAC6 at Draper in Chicago, then continues west on the Santa Fe towards LA.
