The first thing that you notice about Reigna is her dazzling smile. The second thing that you notice is how tall she is. I'm about 5'10" -- not particularly short, but not particularly tall, either -- and when I say that she towered over me, that's no exaggeration. She was over 6' without her heels, and with her heels on, she must have topped 6'4." Luckily, she's as warm and friendly as she is tall, so when I asked her to make a portrait, she was happy to oblige. The only problem was that everyone wanted a photo of her, as you might imagine, so it took a few minutes for her to make her way over to the tree that I was using as a backdrop.
Reigna told me that it was the one-year anniversary for her as a performer -- hence the caption -- although she was such a natural that you could be forgiven for thinking that she'd been doing it all her life. She's the first drag queen I've ever photographed, but her obvious ability as a performer made it easy, The post-processing was more of a challenge, though, as the make-up produces a skin-tone that's hard to correct for. Hopefully she'll think that I did her justice.
