A bitterly cold day in the Peak District, but now I'm acclimatised to the cold after the autumnal warmth of Spain, I made the full traverse of Parkhouse and Chrome Hills yesterday.

I took this shot on my way back down from Chrome, but I wasn't going to attempt the climb and descent of `Parkhouse" again on my return to Earl Sterndale.

The climb up Parkhouse wasn't too bad at first, but whilst the slope was icy, the top quarter inch of any soil areas was soft and it was sticking to the bottom of my Boots making things treacherously slippy. The descent you can see on the distant ridge of Parkhouse was lethal with the steep drop off either side. It certainly concentrated my mind with my heavy camera rucksack not helping my nimble steps on the slippery knife edge limestone rocks.

Anyway I survived the slithering descent and had a lovely day out and I only saw one other hardy walker with his dog. This sheep grazing amongst the snowy grass seemed oblivious to my presence, as I took in this wonderful view of the Peak District Dragon Back!

Shot back around Christmas this when I first met up with photographer Ryan Harris, what an awesome morning. No idea how ive forgot to upload it??

Not the greatest of conditions but better than I expected as there was driving rain shooting in this direction. Windy too.

This was the best view! Doesn't the island in the background on the left side look like a turtle?

On my arrival at Earl Sterndale there really wasn't much snow. I had to wave my magic snow wand and shiver my tits off for two hours before the clouds lifted:)

So this is a NEW picture, it's fair to say I've almost forgotten what one of those is, Lockdown hasn't treated me well, I've felt very trapped and very fed up about the whole not being able to go anywhere, I''ve not been on here as much as well as I really didn't want to see all the places I was being stopped from visiting. I know everybody is in the same boat but it has affected me adversely to the point where yesterday I just had to get out.

We decided to go for our allowed exercise (walk) in the Peak District where there had just been a recent dusting of snow, the drive over was interesting with nil visibilty in parts and thick snow, I envisaged the scene I wanted to photograph, and indeed 1 mile away everything was covered in snow but the mist was very dense so it would be a challenge, in this image there a little bit of mist at the the very summit, minutes before you couldn't see any of it!

Arriving at this spot I was quite amazed to find that this was the only hill in the area not to be completely covered in snow, not even a flake! also the mist was that bad you could hardly make the hill out, just so glad to be out again with the camera I decided to just stand there and wait to see if I got a break in the weather, as you can see, amazingly it happened, looking at the scene it didn't seem that it ever would but amazingly it did! so pleased, a worthwhile journey and the best image I've got from this location to date, it really didn't last long either with the clag coming back in shortly afterwards and hardly lifting again all day, enjoyed the walk, and came back with an image, happy camper, so good for the soul. Hardly saw anyone else all day, I'm gonna continue to pick quiet locations to travel to for a walk and hopefully some photography, all it needs is common sense.

Parkhouse and Chrome Hills from Hitter Hill and a mono conversion.

Peak district near Buxton - 13 September 2015

More of that glorious light from Chrome Hill, on monday morning.

Nestled in the Dove valley close to the Staffordshire border, Chrome Hill is part of an ancient tropical reef that existed during the Carboniferous period over 300 million years ago. It's an almost impossible amount of time to contemplate and I wonder what will become of this spot in another 300 million years.....

Coed Y Brenin. Unfortunalty only there for one day, so did the Dragons Back trail.

Quite a few firebreak parts, but some of the singletrack was sublime. Awesome loop.

Got to say the cafe does a mean hot chocolate!

“It’s funny. When you leave your home and wander really far, you always think, ‘I want to go home.’ But then you come home, and of course it’s not the same. You can’t live with it, you can’t live away from it. And it seems like from then on there’s always this yearning for some place that doesn’t exist. I felt that. Still do. I’m never completely at home anywhere.” - Danzy Senna
