Dragonfly’s eyes have about 30,000 lenses and have a full 360-degree field of vision, but they don’t see details very well. A human eye only has one lens and sees better than a dragonfly, but only to the front and side.

I was visiting the botanical garden of Kyoto when I spotted a few dragonfly. Thankfully, they stayed still and quiet long enough for me to take a nice photo.

A close-up from a dragonfly. I was lucky that it didn't fly away.

These must be my favourite dragonflies; they have striking colours and always seem happy to go about their business regardless of your presence. What's more, I associate them with some of my favourite places. This one had just caught a bumble bee on the slopes of Ben Hiant, Ardnamurchan, and perched obligingly on a dead sprig of Bog Myrtle to enjoy its meal whilst I snapped away.

It's a common Green Darner, I believe. These insects tend to hover in one place, so it's not as difficult to photograph them in flight as it might seem.

Mature males are dark blue with black heads.

They are larger than the Blue dashers.

Hey flickr-friends, I don't usually publish the milestones, but with this photo I will reach 5 million views on flickr with my portfolio and I'd just like to use the moment to thank all of you! Especially if you've been around from the beginning 2.5 years ago! Thank you all! Have a wonderful day!

A picture sometimes conerys a feeling.,, and this for us was one of those., it has that 'summer' feeling that we will long for once the long months of winter arrive and everything is looking so grey and dead.
