2017 one photo each day

I was visiting the botanical garden of Kyoto when I spotted a few dragonfly. Thankfully, they stayed still and quiet long enough for me to take a nice photo.

A close-up from a dragonfly. I was lucky that it didn't fly away.

These must be my favourite dragonflies; they have striking colours and always seem happy to go about their business regardless of your presence. What's more, I associate them with some of my favourite places. This one had just caught a bumble bee on the slopes of Ben Hiant, Ardnamurchan, and perched obligingly on a dead sprig of Bog Myrtle to enjoy its meal whilst I snapped away.

Mature males are dark blue with black heads.

They are larger than the Blue dashers.

I know it's not perfectly in focus but I so seldom manage to photograph any dragonflies at all so I like this anyway.

Last year summer I was able to get very close to this dragonfly.

Always impressed by their beauty!

Happy weekend everyone!!!

Hey flickr-friends, I don't usually publish the milestones, but with this photo I will reach 5 million views on flickr with my portfolio and I'd just like to use the moment to thank all of you! Especially if you've been around from the beginning 2.5 years ago! Thank you all! Have a wonderful day!

Rescued dragonfly, who got into a pool, sitting on a fingertip to get dry. And after a while it could fly again ;-))
