Caernarfon Castle is a medieval fortress in Caernarfon, north-west Wales - a really impressive site. The castle in it's current stone structure and the additional town walls were built by Edward I from 1283 until 1330. This shot was taken on a cloudy morning from across the River Seiont.

My favourite fountain in Rome - in a city with quite a few of them - is this little thing. It is a dragon spouting water (which is drinkable, by the way). The fountain, which is actually one of a pair, is so small it does not even have a real name of its own, but the set is known as the "Fontanelle dei Palazzo Penitenzieri", that is "the small Palace Pentizenieri fountains". The palace (close to St Peter's) is a Renaissance palace where work began in the late 15th century, but the fountain is the heraldic emblem of Pope Paul V (born Camillo Borghese) who ruled the Papal state 1605-1621, so I think it is very safe to assume that the fountain also dates to this time too.

(Yes, my little camera back then struggled with the sharp light contrasts in this motif. But I like the dragon so I'm posting this anyway.)
At Japanese Buddhist temples and Shinto shrines there is the chōzuya (also called temizuya, and in both cases written 手水舎) where you rinse your hands and mouth before visiting the shrine or temple building itself using wooden dippers. The water basin itself is called the chōzubachi (手水鉢).
At Sensō-ji, which was originally founded in 645, making it the oldest Buddhist temple in Tokyo. According to legend it all began when two fishermen found a statue of the Kannon in the nearby river in 628 (they now are venerated in a nearby Shinto shrine: the Asakusa Shrine - Asakusa and Sensō are written with the same kanjis, by the way: 浅草 which can be read both ways). During the Tokugawa shogunate (beginning in 1603) Tokugawa Ieyasu chose Sensō-ji to be the tutelary temple of his clan. Earlier the temple was associated with the Tendai sect, but after World War II the temple went independent.

Im letzten Jahr begleitete Pedro den Sekretär bei zwei kürzeren Reisen an die Ostsee. Als er seiner guten Freundin Edna davon erzählte, beschlossen die beiden, demnächst gemeinsam zu fahren (see flic.kr/p/2mBrfHN ). Hier sehen wir sie nun in Heringsdorf auf Usedom. Edna kannte bereits das Mittelmeer und die Nordsee, und die Ostsee gefällt ihr auch sehr gut.

Last year, Pedro accompanied Secretary on two shorter trips to the Baltic Sea. When he told his good friend Edna about it, the two decided to go together soon (see flic.kr/p/2mBrfHN). Here we see them now in Heringsdorf on Usedom. Edna already knew the Mediterranean the North Sea, and she also likes the Baltic Sea very much.
I began to realize how important it was to be an enthusiast in life. If you're interested in something, no matter what it is, go at it fullspeed. Embrace it with both arms, hug it, love it and above all become passionate about it.

For many of You, this shot may be not really special, for me it is. This is my first successful try to make a halfway sharp image of a flying dragon fly. My deference to all the perfect shots I've seen here from this subject, when I see the effort I needed, has risen dramatically.
Für viele ist die Foto wahrscheinlich nichts besonders, für mich schon. Das hier ist mein erster erfolgreicher Versuch eine Libelle im Flug halbwegs scharf zu fotografieren. Meine Hochachtung für all die grandiosen Fotos, die ich davon schon gesehen habe ist, bei dem Aufwand den ich hatte, drastisch gestiegen.

Dragon detail from Shibamata Taishakuten, which was founded in 1629 - but the buildings in the area are generally from the early 20th century. The inner shrine of the Taishakudo (Taishaku temple hall) was finished in 1915 and the hall of worship 1929. The temple is centred around the worship of Taishakuten (sometimes called just Taishaku - written 帝釈天 or 帝釈 respectively), the Japanese name for Sakra devanam Indra (that is, the god Indra, known from Hinduism).
The temple (and its nearby ferry) is designated as one of the '100 Soundscapes of Japan' (日本の音風景100選) and the temple is also '100 Landscapes of Japan (Heisei era)' (平成百景). And it is the home of a series of quite spectacular wood carvings, depicting scenes from the Lotus Sutra, and with some really beautiful dragons which carry beams on their heads (the wooden kind, not the ray of light-kind of beam...).

Im Wildgarten in Furth im Wald gibt es nicht nur kuriose Gebäude, sondern auch ein Drachenskelett. Dieses stammt vom alten Drachen des Further Drachenstichs. Einer Freilichtaufführung das jeden Sommer in Furth in Wald aufgeführt wird.Während der alte Drache noch sehr mechanisch war, ist der neue ein echter riesiger Roboter und somit eher ein technisches Wunderwerk.

A freestyle performance, which is presented every summer in Furth in Wald. While the old dragon was still very mechanical, the new is a real giant robot and therefore a technical miracle.

Edna ist zwar ein junger Drachen (jung für einen Drachen, natürlich), hat aber schon viel erlebt und weiss viel zu berichten. In der richtigen Umgebung kommt sie rasch ins Plaudern. Dabei kann man sich sicher, sein, dass alles, was sie erzählt, sich auch zugetragen hat. Und zwar genau so – oder zumindest so ähnlich. Und wenn nicht, dann könnte es sich zumindest zugetragen haben. Actually, I had planned a completely different photo for today, but that has to wait another day. Because yesterday I saw this blooming orchid in my bathroom and in its center a fascinating scene.
It is the battle of good against evil that rages on in each of us every day (sometimes louder and sometimes quieter).
We see the orange yellow fire dragon below sticking its head out of its cave and above it the dove of peace spreading its wings, placating the dragon and keeping it in the cave. I hope you see them both too.
The dragon, the monster in all of us represents pain, anger, fear, violence and death. The dove, on the other hand, stands for balance, understanding, harmony and, last but not least, love.
And although the dragon seems so much stronger and more powerful, the gentle and unassuming pigeon carries so much more power.
So if you are looking for support, an ally for hard times, look for the dove of peace within you. The best thing about the inner dragon is just knowing it's there and knowing that you can control him.
Eigentlich hatte ich für heute ein völlig anderes Foto geplant, doch das muss noch einen Tag warten. Denn gestern habe ich in meinem Bad diese blühende Orchidee gesehen und in ihrem Zentrum eine faszinierende Szene.
Es ist der Kampf von gut gegen böse, der täglich in jedem von uns tobt (mal lauter und mal leiser).
Wir sehen unten den orange gelben Feuerdrachen, der den Kopf aus seiner Höhle steckt und darüber die Friedenstaube, die Ihre Flügel ausbreitet und den Drachen besänftigt und in der Höhle hält. Ich hoffe, Ihr seht die beiden auch.
Der Drache, des Monster in uns allen steht für Schmerz, Wut, Angst, Gewalt und Tod. Die Taube dagegen für den Ausgleich, das Verständnis, die Harmonie und nicht zuletzt die Liebe.
Und obwohl der Drache so viel stärker und mächtiger wirkt, so trägt die sanfte und unscheinbare Taube doch so viel mehr Macht in sich.
Wenn du also nach Beistand suchst, nach einem Verbündeten für schwere Zeiten, dann suche nach der Friendenstaube in dir. Das beste an dem inneren Drachen ist einfach nur zu wissen, dass er da ist und zu wissen, dass du ihn kontrollieren kannst.

Das FIGURENTHEATER LÜBECK, vorm. Lübecker Marionettentheater Fritz Fey, besteht in seiner heutigen Form seit dem 1. 1. 2007. Es ist zu finden in einem alten Kaufmannshaus aus dem 16. Jahrhundert in einer schmalen Gasse der Lübecker Altstadt und knüpft damit an eine fast dreißig Jahre alte Tradition des Puppentheaters in diesem Haus an. Denn seit 1977 spielte hier das Marionettentheater Fritz Fey sen.

It can be found in an old merchant house from the 16th century in a narrow lane in Lübeck's old town, continuing on an almost thirty years old tradition of puppet theater in this house. According to legend a dragon lives in this lake appearing from time to time in order to draw animals or even humans down into the cold waters.
"When the dragon has gone without prey for a long time he roars so loudly that he can be heard far across the mountains. If people visit the lake on a bright sunny day and throw a stone into the lake they can happen to hit the dragon. Then the dragon makes the water foam like during a storm, heavy fog arises and it starts to rain."* Most photos show Lai dal Dragun from another perspective, highlighting its dark turquoise water or the reflection of impressive mountains in the distance. I took these photos as well, but looking at them now I feel they look too bright and happy to go with the story behind the lake's name.
