Not an incredible place where to shot, I agree, but something particular considering that we aren't in a classic canyon of the south-west USA but in Morocco. Here are the Draa Gorges, almost in the golden hour and with a strong wind which was blowing sands in my face (and on my lens).

An ‘art’ installation from the 1980's by Belgian/French artist Jean Verame, controversial even today & recently repainted in primary colours, Moroccan style. Aptly described by locals as "Graffiti de merde technicolor".

Using the landscape around Tafraout painting the rocks in blue, black, pink and red created his artwork to be viewed both from afar (drive up the hill towards Gorges Ait Mansour and look over the valley) and close up by driving or walking the circuit.

This graffiti diminishes a fantastic landscape on a grand scale. I think the locals are right.

We came across a group of women gathering fodder for the livestock. They were dressed in brightly coloured shawls, and their donkeys were hidden beneath huge panniers of grass and leaves.

The Draa is Morocco's longest river, more than 1000km long and with a fertile width of up to 10km.

In a desert, when water has come, not a single animal hesitates to do, what has to be done immediately. That differentiates animals from human beeings. (Photo captured in Southern Morocco 9 years ago after a flood wave within the Wadi Draa.)

Zagora is a town located in the Draa River valley in the Moroccan region of Drâa-Tafilalet.

On the base of the Zagora mountain the remains of an Almoravid fortress can still be seen. The exact location of the former Almoravid mosque is still a matter of dispute. Each year the moussem (festival) of the Sufi saint moulay Abdelkader Jilali is celebrated at Zagora.

Languages spoken in the city include Moroccan Arabic, Tachelhit and Tamazight.

A sign at the town border states "Tombouctou 52 days", the supposed time it takes to get to Timbuktu, Mali on foot or camel. The original sign has been replaced by a mural painting.
