The County of Essex – Scenes of Essex
I am an Essex lad. It is a county that possesses a City, a number of Large and Small Towns, New Towns, Villages, Hamlets and Ports. It has anything from Modern Architecture to Roman History and pre Roman ruins. There are Museums, Galleries, an RHS Garden and is open to the National Open Gardens Scheme. It even boasts a Secret Nuclear Bunker, although everyone knows where it is.
It is a place of many Parks and open spaces open to the public, all those areas that are now closed off due to Covid. We can still enjoy the many footpaths that run everywhere from Coast to Countryside. There are a large number of wonderful churches, of timbered houses, windmills, pub signs, post boxes, blue plaques and sculpture just put there for the photographer and lastly, much, much more.
Here is a collection of items that I don’t think have been posted before.
Which door is your favourite? This photo would probably have been better taken in the summer when there are flowers in the planters, but obviously it’s still winter when I took this. The lion door hardware in the centre of the frame is one of my favourite details in this image. Although the brass hand door knocker is pretty neat as well. My next upload will be a close-up of it. :) I wish that I had taken a close-up of the copper acorn door knocker (above the No Junk Mail sign). There was so much to see though, and my time was limited. On my next visit hopefully!
I want to thank everyone that has taken the time to look, fav (⭐) and comment on my recent uploads. I’m truly grateful. I still have several images in this series to post, so I think I’m going to need to post daily for the next 10 days or so. I hope you don’t get tired of me! ;)
Please take good care and remember to be gentle with yourself and others. Even if we haven’t always been successful in the past, each day is a fresh start. Each moment, each breath an opportunity to share our light with others. ✨

I read that these hand door knockers are used as a symbol to ward off evil. I think that we could all use a little of that. ;) May you feel safe and protected.
This image is a close-up of one of the door knockers in yesterday’s image. Thank you to everyone that took the time to let me know which door and details you prefer. :) I enjoyed reading your responses very much! Hey, it’s Friday again. I wish you all an inspiring weekend! x

London – In and around Brick Lane
This collection of images was taken in and around Brick Lane, London. This is an area full of New and Old Architecture, markets, people, graffiti, doors, churches and much more. I’ve posted a selection of items taken in October 2018. This is the second of a number of postings.
Aldaba
Door-knoker
A door knocker is an item of door furniture that allows people outside a house to alert those inside to their presence. A door knocker has a part fixed to the door, and a part (usually metal) which is attached to the door by a hinge, and may be lifted and used to strike a plate fitted to the door, or the door itself, making a noise. The struck plate, if present, would be supplied and fitted with the knocker. Door knockers are often ornate, but may be no more than a simple fitting with a metal bob, or ring.
QUIRKY INFORMATION
Face door knocker on a Red door in Harlech.
As early as the 16th century door knockers
adorned peoples homes. As people got wealthier the more elaborate they became.
Thought to originate from the hand of Fatima [ a palm shaped amulet ] - used to protect against evil.
The most powerful now is a Lion's head for people living in Great Britain.
[ look at No 10 ] !!!!
But the history of door knockers goes back several thousand years
in Ancient Greece.
They were a bit picky about unannounced visits!!!
Where Spartans simply shouted out their visits the Athenians preferred to use a Door Knocker!!!.
I am just recovering enough from Christmas to come up with a very easy theme for the Old San Juan group. For the week of December 29th, post a picture(s) of an inanimate animal.
Doors, Door Knockers and Windows of the World
These sets of images are more from my door, door knockers, shutters and windows collection. I’ve added a few from overseas to the mix plus the odd Blue Plaque. There are many more to follow. In time, every door opens…………

Wie schön, dass es so viele vershiedene Türklopfer gibt :-)
How nice that there are so many different door knockers :-)
Nunney is a village and civil parish in the Mendip local government district within the English county of Somerset. It is located 3 miles south-west of Frome and the parish includes the hamlet of Holwell. The name of the village comes from Old English and means Nunna's island. Wikipedia
The centrepiece is the ruin of mediæval Nunney Castle, inspired by French castles seen by Sir John de la Mare on campaign. The walls are largely intact and it is in perfect scale with its surroundings.
Evidence of Roman settlement has been provided by the discovery of a hoard of Roman coins in 1869 at Westdown Farm and a villa with a mosaic floor.
Nunney is mentioned as a manor belonging to William de Moyon in the Domesday Book in 1086, but the book does not mention a castle.
The parish was part of the hundred of Frome.
For many years, from the medieval period until the 19th century, Nunney was the site of water-powered mills owned initially by the Hoddinotts and then by James Fussell.
