I've only seen a half of dozen of these indigo buntings over the years and this one was at my door step the other day!
Troubled in mind, I'm little blue

On my back door step someday
I did an estimate in Bear Mountain, Victoria B.C. Canada. The lady was really nice and she had beautiful flowers on her door step. I decided to photograph them. I really liked how this photo turned out. :D
Taken this afternoon at our hut in the country. This particular chive plant grows between the bricks of our door step and I haven't the heart to remove it :-)

Just the regular squirrel sizing up the situation on the fence between us and next door . The biggest matter in hand is the bird table with peanuts on and another neighbour's cat sitting on our back door step .
Clarity is a bit odd here as the shot is taken through the double glazing of the patio door with a net curtain that kept getting in the way . My main concern was getting as close as possible to the glass without clonking the the end of the 100-400 mm lens on the glass and scaring the character off !!

I was going for "toe beans" which is what I remembered the Happy Caturday theme as being. I was wrong - it's "paws" which is great since the toe beans are out of focus. Actually, the only thing in focus is Mack's face but at least I didn't have to resort to an old photo of Jimmy.

I couldn’t decide if to take Inspire with me to Fiji. Of-course there would be some fun aerial opportunities but I had told myself I was jetting off to the little tropical island to relax and lugging a large drone through checked in luggage, customs and to and from the resort (not to mention the pre-departure Fijian CAAF request and approval) seemed to somehow contradict this notion.
You guessed it - in the end she came and with a huge coral reef right at my door step and kayaks ready to go I'm glad she did.

Western New Mexico roads are silent paths in a great cathedral. Stop on the road. Open the door. Step out. Breathe.
So sad to find when we got back from vacation that our neighbourhood fox had moved her cubs from the den she dug under the front door step of the house 2 doors up - apparently they were chased up and down the street by a dog that got out of his yard. Still see Mrs. Fox daily so hope she found a safer place to stash them.

Another spectacular sky over the pool's at Talsarnau and looking towards the Italian village of Portmeirion in sunset light.
To wrap up 2022 I thought I would title this the way I saw and lived this year in mind. The only Beauty and peace of mind I ever found was in my photography and admiring others photography. As for the bleak well its the rest really, war on the door step and its still going on. Massive energy costs with no ease in sight and a lot of folks wondering just how do we get by. My photography helps me get by, its all I concentrate on and I wish the same for all fellow photographers out there.
Let there be more beauty next year.

These exoskeleton skin things just blow me away. I've found several around my yard this summer, one even on my front-door step. But I'm positive I saw the owner of this skin the evening before. It was bright green, just like the grasshopper I posted yesterday. The next morning I came to photograph them early, before the breezes started up. This was very close to where I'd seen the little green guy the night before. How do they ever get out of there and leave it so intact?? Believe it or not, I found video clips on the web. They ease slowly out of the top or backside, kinda where the wings are here. The only thing not so intact here is the abdomen all scrunched up. Still seems beyond comprehension to me. It would be crazy to actually see it real time. Very cool stuff.
I came home from a ramble, unlocked the door, stepped inside and was beholden by the light streaming into my kitchen so took a few more shots before I laid down my camera.
Through the door, step right in

My grandfather drove a Buick in the mid-1950's that looked a lot like this one. At the time, I was the firstborn and only grandchild in the family, and I was just learning to talk. Whenever my grandfather would drive up in his Buick, swing open the huge door, step out with a grin on his face, and stick out his arms as he walked in my direction, I would immediately return his grin, throw out my arms, point towards the Buick and say "Pokerpack". No one ever knew where Pokerpack came from, but it was my name for my grandfather's big Buick.
Last night, this grandfather was on his way to his grandson's basketball game, and what did I see out of the corner of my eye? Pokerpack. Without hesitation. Pokerpack.
After I made this photograph, I was back in the front seat of my car, loading my camera into my camera bag, and I caught a glance of my face in the mirror. I saw a grandfather. I whispered "Pokerpack" out loud and immediately felt silly because I was the only one in the car. But a heart filled with fond memories of what it means to be a grandfather quickly reminded me that the wheel of life, much like the wheels on these old Buicks, keeps turning round and round, making grandfathers out of the smallest of little boys.

Well ridge tile anyway . That's it really , what else can one say about a pigeon on the roof - just stood on the back door step and took this as it perched on next door but one's roof . Now that all the misty fog has gone we are left with a stunning blue sky .

Probably my favourite spot to shoot, 10 minutes from my door step. I don't get down here nearly as much as i'd like to. Especially not at the moment!
This little miracle of nature, a Monarch Butterfly, has just emerged from her pupa - just 120 seconds after I saw it begin to crack open. By now, I've seen a few from my front-yard milkweed patch, but I'm still finding it to be a touching and emotional thrill. Honestly, I just sat captivated until her wings were fully unfurled (maybe 30 minutes or so). If you were wondering about the "place", the pupa was hanging in a potted cactus on my front door step. She was pretty much on schedule - after emerging, she hung out for a few hours, made a short flight across the sidewalk, then circled the yard and flew away. I don't know why, but this just moves me deeply, like she's saying thank you. And of course, I get the chance to wish her well in her new and exciting life. Unending joy.
