A combination of plush and plastic toy, this Snoopy has a 'hammer' handle on his back, and a squeaky button on the bottom.
'Hammering' does indeed result in a satisfactory squeak.
This is another Japan toy that we picked up when we lived there, most likely from Kiddy Land, which was the source of most of our Peanuts happies.
It's difficult to express how much we enjoyed our weekly visits to Kiddy Land. Hankyu Sanban Gai's North Building is part of the massive Hankyu Osaka-Umeda Station complex. CM and I worked in the Daiyon (Or, #4) building which was at the other side of the complex, but only about a 10 minute walk underground. We would often make the fun trek over to Kiddy Land. The entire underground complex is quite fun with all sorts of stores and restaurants. Though our building was by the JR station we were always proud that we were Hankyu people. 😄
But it was great fun just to wander through Kiddy Land and look at all the cute things. Of course, Snoopy and Peanuts was what we purchased the most, but they have so much. Kiddy Land is a very happy place to visit. 😊
In fact, Kiddy Land in Umeda is one of Japan's premier destinations for character goods and toys. Located within the Hankyu Sanbangai shopping mall (directly connected to Hankyu Osaka-Umeda Station), it is a massive "character sanctuary" that is often considered the Osaka equivalent of the famous Harajuku flagship store.
Unlike a typical toy store, Kiddy Land Umeda is organized into several dedicated "shop-in-shop" boutiques, each specializing in a specific brand or character. It spans two levels in the North Building of the mall:
1st Floor (North Building):
Rilakkuma Store & Sumikko Gurashi Shop: A huge section dedicated to San-X characters. You’ll find everything from life-sized plushies to kitchenware and stationery.
Basement 1st Floor (North Building):
Snoopy Town Shop: This is famously the largest Snoopy specialty store in Japan. It carries a massive range of Peanuts merchandise, including many Osaka-exclusive designs.
Miffy Style: A dedicated boutique for the Dutch rabbit character, featuring minimalist and high-quality lifestyle goods.
Donguri Republic (Studio Ghibli): A forest-themed shop selling official merchandise from Totoro, Spirited Away, and other Ghibli classics.
Disney Avenue: A curated section for Disney fans with a focus on "adult-cute" items rather than just kids' toys.
Neko Mart: A unique section specifically for cat lovers, featuring goods themed after famous feline characters and general cat-related lifestyle items.
Other Characters: You can also find dedicated corners for Kirby, Star Wars, Marvel, Doraemon, Crayon Shin-chan, and Moomin.
Osaka Exclusives: One of the best reasons to visit this specific branch is the "Osaka Limited" merchandise. You can find popular characters like Snoopy, Chiikawa, or Rilakkuma dressed as takoyaki (octopus deep-fried in balls of batter), holding Osaka Castle, or wearing traditional local comedy-themed outfits.
Chiikawaland: While Kiddy Land is in the North Building, there is a dedicated Chiikawaland (one of the original official stores) located nearby in the South Building (B1F) of the same mall. It is extremely popular and often requires a reservation or queuing system for new releases.
Location: Hankyu Sanbangai North Building (1F & B1F), 1-1-3 Shibata, Kita-ku, Osaka.
Access: * Hankyu Line: Directly connected to Osaka-Umeda Station (Chayamachi Gate is the closest).
JR Line: About a 5-minute walk from the Midosuji North Exit of JR Osaka Station.
Subway: 3-minute walk from Umeda Station (Midosuji Line).
Hours: Typically 10:00 AM – 9:00 PM (may vary during holidays).
Tax-Free: Tax-free shopping is available for tourists. You usually need to take your receipts to the central tax-free counter located in the South Building of Hankyu Sanbangai.
Crowd Tip: It gets incredibly crowded on weekends. For a more relaxed experience, try to visit on a weekday morning. Be aware that for very popular/new releases (especially for Chiikawa or Rilakkuma), there may be purchase limits of one item per person.

In our toy collecting, plush is not a strong point and that remains true for our Peanuts collection. The 2001 'Many Lives of Snoopy' series from McDonald's Japan is a plush series that we featured from 2020-2021. Because each plush figure was themed, it was easy to create specific scenes.

Also, in Japan we did pick up a nice series of small plush, about 16mm. These plush seem to have the same origin though there are different tags. The Law Label (The label that is sewn to plush toys containing copyright and materials information.) always has 'Peanuts' and a copyright for United Feature Syndicate. The cardboard tag labels vary with many carrying the 'RM' label. All of the plush were manufactured in Hong Kong. So, we think a Japanese company (Perhaps Nakajima Corporation) manufactured these and released them to various distributors.
Most of these plush have no distinguishing themes or names but rather standard figures released in a variety of colors. We've photographed a couple from this series here:
