Terraced rice fields, drum towers, tiered houses of Zhao Xing Dong Village in Guizhou Province, China.
Situated in southeastern Guizhou, 72 kilometers (45 miles) from Liping County, Zhaoxing village (also called Zhaodong) is one of the largest Dong Minority villages in China. It lies in a basin surrounded by mountains where a small river passes through.
In 2001, Zhaoxing Drum Towers and Dong village were both listed in the Guinness Book of World Records. A must for every traveler in Zhaoxing is enjoying a Dong drama, which plays on the stage near the Drum Tower.
Dong village in Zhaoxing has a long history. According to folk legend, the village was constructed in the fifth year of the Zhenglong Emperor of the Song Dynasty (1160). Ancestors of Zhaoxing village settled here some 840 years ago.

Jeune-femme de l'ethnie Dong. Village de Baojin, province de Guizhou, Chine
Le Guizhou est une province montagneuse, l'une des plus pauvres et des moins développées de la Chine. Un proverbe local prétend que dans cette province, il n'y a pas trois mètres consécutifs de terrain plat , ni trois jours consécutifs sans pluie
Ce jour là pourtant, il fait beau et c'est jour de fête à Baojin, un village authentique du peuple Dong. Des centaines de Dongs ont revêtu leur plus bel habit et ont convergé vers le petit village dominé par les piliers de l'autoroute récemment ouverte à la circulation. Ils vont participer aux diverses cérémonies traditionnelles dans une ambiance chaleureuse et bon-enfant. Quelques touristes chinois sont présents, pas d'Occidentaux, à part nous.
L'ethnie Dong forte d'environ trois millions d'individus, est particulièrement bien représentée au Guizhou. Longtemps isolée dans un environnement difficile, elle a développé une culture dont l'un des éléments essentiels est le chant
