For Smile on Saturday theme of Portray a Book title, Curtains for Three, a mystery novel by Rex Stout, who is known for his mystery books with events happening in threes. His books usually have three or triple in the title. I edited out most of the color in the photo to give it a noir look with a touch of faded colors.

Open to suggestions for a title for this. I played with it for too long and have to get ready for work.

Today's shot is for The Hereios' theme, Celebrities and ME!

So, I went out to stretch the legs on the new Zeiss Planar T* 85mm f/1.4 ZE (thanks B&H) in some low light for a little review I'm gonna do. Reminded me of Don so I whipped out a quote for the new season coming up (that's a quote from the first season).

When I was sick all last week, I was so bored that I started watching Mad Men from the beginning again on Netflix. If you want to know how bad I really felt, I was able to make it all the way through every episode.

Don Draper opened his restaurant in 1947 in Burbank CA. after serving Lockheed Corp. workers food from a lunch stand near the facility during WWII.

The restaurant originally was a drive-in with a car hop but later became a full service diner in 1963. Finally closed in 2002 the building became a Japanese restaurant and the vintage neon signs were donated and now one of them resides at the Valley Relics Museum in Van Nuys CA.

I've surfaced from a three-day Mad Men binge, and now all I can do is wait on tenterhooks for the Season 3 premiere next month. In the meantime, I'll continue to obsess over the work of Amy Wells, the show's incredible set designer. She's revealed a few of her furniture and decor sources in various interviews, without going so far as to identify specific pieces. I've read that set designers guard their sources carefully -- and I would, too, if my interiors looked as good as this!

Do a little research, though, and you'll learn that the chair, couch, and coffee table in Don Draper's office (above) are the 'Boxy' models from Futurama, a maker of custom vintage furniture in L.A. Word is that Wells shops there a lot, as well as at Xcape (in Long Beach). The chair in the foreground, above right, looks like Finn Juhl, but I have yet to find a model that's an exact match. If anyone has more info, please let me know!

Estamos totalmente enganchados a Madmen. Así que aquí va un pequeño homenaje a Betty Draper. El vestido forma parte de una futura colección inspirada en la serie (y en Betts especialmente) Espero que os guste^^

We're absolutely hooked on Madmen, so this is our little tribute to Betty Draper. The dress is part of a future collection inspired in that cool series (specially in Betts) I hope you like it!

These are a gift for a dear, dear, most special friend back in Minneapolis. I <3 you, B!!!

Mad Men 1985-1996. If DonDraper had a home office in the late 80s to mid 90s, this would be it.

He’d use QuarkXpress on an Apple Powerbook to review his ads. He’d use a Braun Dieter Rams calculator.

The desk setup would have to be swanky like the George Nelson Swag, Tolomeo Lamp, and Eames Aluminum Group Softpad Task Chair. His camera would be a Leica and he’d wear Swiss timepieces like a Speedmaster Pro or GMTMaster.

With the exception of the Mac Powerbook, these are all vintage, iconic designs. Some as old as 60 years old.

I laughed out loud when I heard this one and it's so true. Creativity can be encouraged, sure, but it can be very difficult to force. Sometimes you just have to fuck around until creativity strikes.

For Throwback Thursday. My father and I during the summer when I was a child. Unfortunately, this picture doesn't have a date on it. But this has to be from the 1960s. My Dad's hat and sunglasses look like something out of the television show Mad Men. I used to see Don Draper wearing things like this on that series.

If he re-married another French Canadian or extensively travelled, might have picked up TinTin memorabilia. He'd still shoot with a vintage Leica rangefinder.

I see 12 ornately carved cabriole legs, and 12 awesome pieces of fancy solid wood millwork to be used to build something AMAZING for my playroom!

I purchased this set of 3 thrift store tables for $30! (Not the desk, of course, just the 3 tables) I gave one of the end-table tops & the huge sofa table top away. I’ve reconfigured all of the remaining table parts to create a long tufted upholstered bench, a stand for my favorite Barbie’s Dream House, and legs & trim work to dress up a couple basic boring cabinets I’ve salvaged to use as display shelves in my new studio.

More pics coming soon! 💕

I did a shoot on Sunday with Nyomie and Mark and Nyomie loving all things vintage and Mark being so dashing and the both of them loving MadMen I thought I would try and base this shoot on the MadMen TV series.

It was a lot of fun.

This is a fictitious poster for AMC's Mad Men, which I happen to be a huge fan of. I will be doing more of these hopefully. Also I have other Mad Men related posters coming soon!

My Flickr stats show hundreds of views a day of my set "A Manhattan Childhood" by fans of the series "Mad Men". I'm not sure what site is linking to the set (can someone tell me?), but in anticipation of the start of season 4 tonight here's the link to the set:

(Photos above: On the right Don and Betty Draper, on the left my mother and my stepfather (who was a television executive, a field related to advertising) in a photo taken in 1960.)

Donald Francis "Don" Draper is a fictional character and the protagonist. I consume the entire four seasons of Mad Men in less than one month. I take out my sketch pad and draw as I watch the series continue through each season. Living in Europe I had not been a fan of the series but I was aware of it.

How on earth will it end?

Betty & Don?

Don & Peggy?

Last season's ominous Megan / Sharon Tate paralel?

I mainly hope things work out well for Joan, Sally and Roger....but that's just me.

I've been wanting to explore typography and old printing processes for a while now. So I took a great quote from Don Draper, fancied it up real nice and had it printed on a 1949 Chandler + Price Crafsman letterpress.

I ordered a run of 50 so I put a bunch up for sale on my etsy shop: www.etsy.com/listing/59409608/quote-1-don-draper:

The good folks over at AccuColor here in Chicago took a video of the 1949 Chandler + Price Craftsman letterpress running while my poster was being printed. I love how these old machines look alive while printing.

Here I am as Don Draper from Mad Men.

This is the plate created for the letterpress run.

The Carousel in Cardiff Bay, which just made me think of Mad Men and Don Draper naming Kodak's new slide projector The Carousel.

"This device isn’t a spaceship, it’s a time machine. It goes backwards, forwards. It takes us to a place where we ache to go again. It’s not called the wheel, it’s called the carousel. It lets us travel the way a child travels. Round and around and back home again to a place where we know we are loved.”

Because it was nostalgic and let its viewers travel through their memories as a child would; not on a wheel, but on a carousel.
