First fireworks experience with my DSLR and I forgot the attachment for the tripod... Not too shabby under the circumstances I'd say... What you think?
This Victorian Grandstand at Doncaster Racecourse is officially called the Second Enclosure when it was made a listed building. It was constructed in 1881 and added on in 1901 with major renovations taking place in the 20th Century.
It is a fine example of Victorian design and is one of the few Victorian Grandstands in the U.K. to survive until the 21stC.
I had to attend the big hospital in Doncaster last week and changed my route to it to see what I could find! It took me past the racecourse which as a non-race day was shut for visitors. I found this spot off the main road on the far side of the course and was able to go a little way enabling me to get this shot. The stand was probably about 400-500m away from where I was but the results were quite pleasing.
An early 1966 registered Volkswagen Beetle from the UK. This is on show at a recent car show at Doncaster in the UK. April 2019.
After the race at Doncaster the jockey and groom study the big screen replay to check out the final placings.

SYPTE trolleybus 2450 at the outer turning circle, under the one-mile long experimental stretch of overhead on Sandall Beat Road situated adjacent to Doncaster Racecourse to trial the vehicle. By August 1986, the writing was on the wall for SYPTE’s ambitious project to reintroduce the trolleybus back to the streets of Britain; Maggie Thatcher’s 1985 Transport Act had made sure of that. So this was a rare outing for the vehicle, made possible on this occasion by approaching SYPTE and gaining special permission to see the vehicle in action, and also have a drive in it before it was all too late; quite a unique and memorable experience.
I wonder if the SYT livery was based on this colour scheme?

South Yorkshire PTE's experimental trolleybus 2450 seen in Sandall Beat Road on the mile long test route situated opposite Doncaster's Leicester Avenue bus garage. Trials with this unique bus were brought to an abrupt end by the privatisation of the British bus industry in October 1986. What should have been the vehicle that resurrected the trolleybus in Britain now resides at the Sandtoft Trolleybus Museum.

A nice black BMW from the Alpina range of high end German cars, seen here behind Doncaster racecourse back in April 2019.
YDT250 was a 1957 ERF 54G belonging to Norman Pashley when seen at Doncaster Racecourse fair. I think the attractive coach built body was similar to vehicles transporting clothing for tailoring companies. The Doncaster registration shows it has not strayed far from its original home. Photographer was Barry Ridge.

But the new Doncaster Hilton Hotel at the World Famous Racecourse, looks, to me, like an Eastern Bloc detention centre or Communist Government Office?
The official version is "The hotel will feature associated parking and landscaping, which will enhance the image of the racecourse and provide a beautiful surround to the hotel".
Maybe its just the building stage that makes it look ugly but the architecture seems to border on brutal and uninspiring.
In the 21st Century is this the best design we could come up with?
684ML was a very tidy looking 1963 Foden K type 4x2 when seen at Doncaster Racecourse fair. This vehicle has now been preserved with a dropside body. Photographer was Barry Ridge.
South Yorkshire independant Wilfreda Beehive operate a Park & Ride service between Doncaster Royal Infirmary and one of Doncaster Racecourse's car parks. This ADL Enviro 200 bodied E20D is the regular bus for this service and carries branding for it as can be seen in this photo of it at the racecourse.

I guess that flat screen televisions don't come much bigger than this? Quite a useful (and colourful) aid to race goers in the grandstand. I have seen a similar device to this before, i.e. a vehcile with a large format television screen mounted onto its roof ; advertising a police in the community campaign, however, it was on a much smaller scale to this monster.
