Doncaster Minster is a large church designed by architect Sir George Gilbert Scott in 1853 in the gothic revival style and constructed between 1854 and 1858. it was built to replace a 12th century Norman building that burnt down on the last day of February 1853.

They may be the most common sight on local ponds but the Mallard, whether the brightly coloured male or the less conspicuous female are most attractive birds. Here a female is seen at Doncaster Lakeside in an early morning photograph taken a week or so ago. We had set off to visit the nearby Pottereic Carr nature reserve but not twigged that it wouldn't be open at 08.00 in the morning. A short detour allowed for a rather pleasing amble around this relatively recent development.

The last night of overnight Deltics at Doncaster still sends shivers down my spine....the main reason is that it was extremely cold and my feet were freezing!

A night that saw 55009 (23.38 to KingsX), 55021 (01.32 to KingsX,one engine only) and 55019, seen here, with a Newcastle train at around 03.30 on 31st December 1981.
