They may be the most common sight on local ponds but the Mallard, whether the brightly coloured male or the less conspicuous female are most attractive birds. Here a female is seen at Doncaster Lakeside in an early morning photograph taken a week or so ago. We had set off to visit the nearby Pottereic Carr nature reserve but not twigged that it wouldn't be open at 08.00 in the morning. A short detour allowed for a rather pleasing amble around this relatively recent development.

LNER class 91 locomotive, currently carrying the number 91 150 to celebrate 50 years of York's National Railway Museum, arrives at Doncaster working the 09.06 Kings Cross to York.

I was surprised to see some old style speed restriction signs in place for the three 15 mph crossovers in the station area, I thought all such items would be in a museum.

These normally depart via the up side, but the train needed turning so ended up coming through the centre roads. The added bonus was that it meant the 47 was leading.

Another Merrymaker Trip from south Wales found me at Doncaster on 4 January 1975, this is 55022 'Royal Scots Grey' racing through the station with an 'up' express.

This location is one that I have not visited for photographic purposes for over 30-years, I know much has changed if this view were to be recreated, apart from the obvious electrification, withdrawal of Deltics and other proper trains, the car park (seen above 55022) has been demolished, so perhaps it is time to visit again! What happy days they were, it is only 46-years ago.

Overtaking 40050 with a northbound hopper train, (thought to be East Anglian grain for the Scottish whiskey industry) is 47520 about to make the station call with the 13.00 KX - Edinburgh.
