Ross Park Carousel is a historic carousel located at Binghamton in Broome County, New York. The carousel is housed in a wooden, one story, 16-sided, pavilion topped by an eight sided cupola. The carousel has 60 horses standing four abreast, each of which is a "jumper," and two chariots. It was constructed by the Allan Herschell Company and contains its original Wurlitzer Military Band Organ. The carousel was purchased about 1920 and is one of six carousels donated to the citizens of Broome County by George F. Johnson (1857–1948), president of Endicott Johnson Corporation.

The Krall Barn is believed to be the oldest existing log barn in Lebanon County. The effort to save it first kicked off in 2007, when the structure, then located east of Schaefferstown, was saved from destruction by a cooperating owner, Howard Scharff, who worked with Schaefferstown’s Bill Ross by offering to donate the barn if it was dismantled. The way it stands now, most of the exterior of the Krall Barn is nearly complete. But there are many smaller, inside projects yet to be tackled. The education center is expected to make it easier for visitors to enjoy their time at the 110 acre historic site that features three locks of the Union Canal, an engineering feat visited by none less than President George Washington himself during its construction.

ENG: The Schäzlerpalais Staircase in Augsburg can be seen, this museum houses the municipal and state art collection. It is located at the Herkulesbrunnen, directly at the corner of Maximilianstraße and Katharinengasse and used to be the city palace of a banker.

The former Palais House on site was replaced by a new building in 1765. This rococo palace was built according to plans by the Munich court architect Karl Albert von Lespilliez. The construction work took four and a half years. In October 1958, Wolfgang Freiherr von Schaezler (fourth generation) donated the building to the city of Augsburg on condition that it never be sold and used exclusively for cultural purposes.

The highlight of the shrine is the rows of torii gates, known as Senbon torii (千本鳥居), "thousand torii". The custom to donate a torii began spreading from the Edo period (1603–1868) to have a wish come true or in gratitude for a wish that came true, with successive gates being added up to the present day by donors out of gratitude. Along the main path there are around 800 torii gates

State Rail of Thailand has been investing in train tourism in a big way. On the left is a refurbished KiHa-183 train built in the 1980s for Japan Rail Hokkaido. Seventeen of these were donated to SRT by JR Hokkaido in 2021 (SRT only had to cover shipping cost) and now offer tourist day trips out of Hua Lamphong in Bangkok (thaitrainguide.com).

Next to it is the Royal Blossom, now a luxury tourist train that undertook its first Thai journey in 2024. It comprises refurbished Hamanasu Express cars purchased by SRT from JR Hokkaido in 2017 (thaitrainguide.com).

📍 Santa Cruz Del Islote

Santa Cruz del Islote is surely one of the most striking places in Colombia. It is in the Caribbean Sea, it belongs to the Archipelago of San Bernardo, in the Department of Bolivar.

It is the most densely populated island on Earth with its 493 inhabitants distributed in just one hectare. The average density of the island is 1.25 inhabitants per 10 m², that is, the density is 125,000 inhabitants per km². But the island grows every time the fishermen bring coral stones that they place around it to protect it from the fury of the sea.

Sixty-five percent of the population is under age, there are only 6 surnames and 97 houses. The main activity of the island is fishing. The one who manages the store, or the trainer of the fighting cocks, lives from the fishery. Some use nets on the shores of the islands, others use hooks, and others dive to catch lobsters. There is no fixed time to get up. Those who go fishing in the morning get up at five o'clock. Those who don't, stay up until ten or eleven o'clock in bed or in the hammock.

There are few facilities on the island due to its small size, but in spite of that, there are stores, a health center, a soccer field, an educational center where students can go up to ninth grade and an electric plant that works only during the night. There are also solar cells donated by the Government of Japan. What there is not, for example, is a cemetery.

On this islet there is not a single square meter left unbuilt and its inhabitants are said to ""sleep so close together that they dream the same thing"".

Belton House, located in a few miles north of Grantham in Lincolnshire, is a quintessential example of a late 17th-century country estate, built in the Carolean (Restoration) style. It was home to the Brownlow and Cust families for nearly 300 years.

The house was primarily built between 1685 and 1688 for "Young" Sir John Brownlow and his wife Alice, who inherited a vast fortune from a great-uncle. They chose a fashionable yet comparatively modest design, drawing inspiration from Roger Pratt's demolished Clarendon House in London, rather than a grand Baroque palace. The design is generally attributed to architect William Winde, with construction overseen by master mason William Stanton.

The Brownlow family were a dynasty of wealthy lawyers who began acquiring land in the area in the late 16th century. Successive generations, including the Cust family who later inherited the estate and were created Baron and then Earl Brownlow, made alterations to the interiors and gardens to reflect changing tastes and social status, though the external appearance remained largely unchanged.

Following the wars, the family faced mounting financial difficulties and death duties, common challenges for wealthy English families at the time. After attempts to keep the estate viable, including opening it to the public, the 7th Baron Brownlow donated the house and most of its contents to the National Trust in 1984.

In November 2022, a special move of equipment donated by Union Pacific to Railroading Heritage of Midwest America made its way from Cheyenne, Wyoming to Silvis, Illinois over the course of several days. UP handled the train from Cheyenne to Council Bluffs, Iowa while Iowa Interstate Railroad handled it the rest of the way to Silvis.

On the last day of the move, November 19, the train is seen rolling over the Cedar River at Moscow, Iowa. From screaming sunshine to heavy clouds to this snow squall with accompanying high winds, we encountered quite the variety of weather this day!

Donated by One Rail Australia and arriving at Mt Barker in March 2021, 844 has undergone a full restoration into the former SAR mustard pot livery. Recently returned to service , 844 is stabled at Mt Barker on display during Steamranger's Rail Fest event on 28-5-23

This is the very large stone font, which dates from Norman times and is decorated with four rather strange faces (not visible in this shot, sadly). Apparently it was one of two, a smaller similar one having been donated to a nearby church.

This vintage semi-postal stamp was issued by the Netherlands in 1959 as part of the annual "Child Welfare" (Kinderpostzegels) series. The design features a young child standing in a wooden playpen (box) with building blocks next to them. The "4C+4" denomination indicates a 4-cent postage value plus a 4-cent surcharge donated to children's charities.

The Prosper Schiaffino or Donator wreck, Mediterranean Sea, France. 🐠 🌊 🇫🇷 🌏 👉 linktr.ee/vincent_pommeyrol

🇬🇧 The Donator, or Prosper Schiaffino, is a freighter sunk by a mine in 1945 and located between the islands of Port-Cros and Porquerolles. It is one of the most beautiful wrecks in the Mediterranean.

Donator was built in 1931 in Norway. It measured 78 m of length for 12 m of wide, for a speed de14 in 15 knots for a power of 1800 cv. Its resold in 1933 to the General Maritime Company of Armaments which renames it Small Earth and allocates it to the transport of bananas between the Metropolis and the Antilles. In 1939 it becomes the property of an Algerian Company of Navigation, the Company Schiaffino. This one was in the habit of baptizing the ships with the first names of members of the family, and Donator becomes then the Prosper Schiaffino. This company, which had twenty buildings in 1939, lost 19 during the Second World War: 13 by torpedoes, mines, and 6 by bombing while they were at anchor.

He was converted into a pinardier. Used for the transport of troops and equipment during the war, it found the transport of wine at the liberation. On November 10, 1945, the Prosper Schiaffino sailed for Spain with 29 sailors on board, to protect itself from the mistral, it skirted the coast. In sight of Porquerolles, it passes to the south of the island, too close, and encounters a field of residual mines. An explosion occurs forward at 1:15 p.m. The bow almost detaches from the ship. In 4 minutes, it sinks from the front, the rear almost vertically. Two victims will be counted. He rests on a sandy bottom at 48 meters, the bridge goes up to 44 meters.

Council-owned municipal golf course was returned to public use and rewilded to parkland. In 2025, Enfield Council approved a scheme to lease over 50% of the parkland to Tottenham Hotspur for them to develop a training facility, a decision that will see the removal of 207 trees.

Enfield Council agreed a lease of 25 years for just £2m. A stitch-up between a rotten borough and an offshore-owned football club.

Coral Gables, officially the City of Coral Gables, is a city in Miami-Dade County, Florida, United States, located southwest of Downtown Miami. The United States Census Bureau estimates conducted in 2017 yielded the city had a population of 51,095. Coral Gables is home to the University of Miami.

Coral Gables was one of the first planned communities and prefigured the development of the gated community and the homeowners association. It is infamous for its strict zoning regulations. The city was developed by George Edgar Merrick during the Florida land boom of the 1920s. The city's architecture is almost entirely Mediterranean Revival style, including the Coral Gables Congregational Church, donated by Merrick. The domed, Catholic Church of the Little Flower was built somewhat later, in a similar Spanish Renaissance style. By 1926, the city covered 10,000 acres (4,000 ha) and had netted $150 million in sales, with over $100 million spent on development.

Dipping into my photo archives in past weeks I found this shot in the Pornic file. Until I became used to it, the naming of places after important dates did seem a particularly French custom. This date resonates with me and brings to mind the concluding pages of my father's diaries.

In the early hours of 8th May 1945, my father was in a column of prisoners being marched away from the PoW camps. They had reached the German-Czech border, after a 'stopover' in a tin mine at Zinnwald. My dad saw the guards shine their torches down and feared they would have no option but to sleep on the wet ground. He suggested to his pals that they leave the column.... Which they did. Unnoticed.

There followed a time of living on their wits for food and shelter, plus a few adventures, until they met three American ex-PoWs, who had found a 15 cwt truck. My dad and his mates hitched a lift to Pilsen where they were officially registered as recovered allied PoWs by the Third US Army.

There followed a flight to Reims in France and thence onward to England where my dad finally arrived home to his wife at 4.30 p.m. in the little village of Claydon, Suffolk on 25th May 1945.

I was born the following year - nearly a Christmas baby. A new little family; a different life.

As my Flickr friends who have read the story know, the help of a fellow member of a local U3A Photography Group has been invaluable to me in publishing, in paperback and kindle format, my father's diary account of his WW2 service, captured at Tobruk, subsequently as a PoW in N. Africa, Italy and Germany:

www.amazon.co.uk/Till-We-Meet-Again-Gunner/dp/154404870X

My royalties are donated to the Red Cross, without whose food parcels sent to the PoW camps, my father felt that 'a lot of us wouldn't have come back'.

left side : church in kenya (thanks dad for this shot !)

right side : prests in Vatican City (the mother of churches)

now think about that : who really trust in god ? who really care about eternal life and hope to be in paradise after death?

Probably one prest hat could save one child..

PROBABLY 10 prest hats could be sold to build a new church...

2015.March Point. Padilla Bay/Fidalgo Bay.

"One of the largest Great Blue Heron colonies in Western North America, this island of forest sits between Padilla and Fidalgo Bays. Vera and Bud Kinney donated this property to Skagit Land Trust in 1994 to protect the nesting herons. With the cooperation of neighboring landowners, each year, Skagit Land Trust conducts a nest count in the heronry. 546 heron nests were counted in 2016 in this relatively small area, which provides easy access to feeding grounds for the herons. Unfortunately, the Trust does not have access to all neighboring property, and therefore some heron nests are uncounted. The overall trend, however, shows increasing number of heron nests in the colony on Skagit Land Trust property and the property to which we have access -- and there are likely to be hundreds more nests on the adjacent property to which we do not have access."
