Thank you very much for all your visits, faves and

A Blue Jay waits patiently for some seed to appear. These guys dominate the food chain on our lakefront, except for the squirrels of course!

The cone of the Licancabur (5916 m - 19409 ft) dominates us from its full height. On its right is the Juriques (5,704 m - 18714 ft).

The Licancabur owes its name to the Indians of Atacama, and means mountain or volcano of the people (lican-cabur).

This mythical volcano, asleep but not considered extinct, is the real postcard of the region of San Pedro de Atacama and Lipez. It marks the border between Chile and Bolivia.

From its height of 5916 m (19409 ft), it dominates the Atacama Salar at Chilean side, and the Laguna Verde in Bolivia. This stratovolcano has a crater, located in Chile and 400 m in diameter, with a lake of 90 m by 70 m in its center.

The Licancabur also houses many Inca ruins and a sanctuary at its summit; it was an eminently important place for the pre-Columbian cultures of the region.

Ratcliffe-on-Soar Power Station dominates most viewpoints of Old Sawley (Long Eaton) and its surrounding landscapes.

After the heavy rains of mid-February two swans settled on the flooded farmland. I was attracted to the juxtaposition of nature and the industrial dominance of the cooling towers and the chimney (if you look closely to the base of the cooling towers and behind the foliage, you can see two trains passing in opposite directions) – also, the way that the natural light has split the composition in two horizontally with the sunlight bathing the (ugly[?]) manmade construction in warm light, and the cold muted hues of the shade depriving the beauty of nature (the swans) of their moment. It somehow feels like a betrayal.

The Miradouro da Ponta do Rosto viewpoint is located just before the famous Vereda da Ponta de São Lourenço hike. However, you can drive all the way up to this viewpoint, which gives you easy access to one of the best sunrise spots on Madeira Island.

The Ponta do Rosto viewpoint makes it possible to enjoy a landscape dominated by steep coastal cliffs.

The semi-arid climate and exposure to northern winds explains the low vegetation and the absence of trees that can be seen from the Ponta do Rosto viewpoint - a landscape contrasting sharply with Madeira's typically green sceneries.

Mount Nemrut (Nemrut Dagi - 2150m)) dominates a vast area. At the top is a mound of stones piled artificially (+50m), which probably lies the tomb of King Antiochus. He ruled the kingdom Kommagena between 64 - 38 BC. Feeling related to the gods and heroes of the Greco-Persian, ordered them to carve giant statues. They were set on top around the cone of stones. With time, the heads of those statues were separated from their powerful bodies and in this state found them in 1881, Karl Puchstein geodesist.

The entire hill was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1987.

Dominating the old port of Mutriku, thisold fish market building is one of the most emblematic of the town. Despite having undergone various transformations, it still retains the Renaissance Gothic style of its origins, dating back to the 15th century. Built using stonework and ashlar masonry, its main façade has a large portico with wide half point arches.

The Greater Blue Mountains Area consists of 1.03 million ha of sandstone plateaux, escarpments and gorges dominated by temperate eucalypt forest. The site, comprised of eight protected areas, is noted for its representation of the evolutionary adaptation and diversification of the eucalypts in post-Gondwana isolation on the Australian continent. Ninety-one eucalypt taxa occur within the Greater Blue Mountains Area which is also outstanding for its exceptional expression of the structural and ecological diversity of the eucalypts associated with its wide range of habitats. The site provides significant representation of Australia's biodiversity with ten percent of the vascular flora as well as significant numbers of rare or threatened species, including endemic and evolutionary relict species, such as the Wollemi pine, which have persisted in highly-restricted microsites.

Dominating the local skyline, Lancaster Castle is one of England's best preserved castles. The castle offers a glimpse into England’s often dark past through tours and special events enjoyed by modern day visitors. Until 2011 it was a fully functioning HM Prison and was also Europe’s longest-serving prison.

Its courtrooms have witnessed many famous and infamous trials over the centuries, including those of the Lancashire Witches who were convicted and sentenced to death in 1612. Between 1800 and 1865 only the judges at the Old Bailey in London sentenced more people to death than those who sat at Lancaster Castle.

"The Basilica of SS. Ulrich and Afra [...] is a Catholic parish in Augsburg. [...] The building is a great example of Gothic architecture in Germany [...]. Its high bell tower with an "onion" dome, which dominates the city to the south, served as a prototype for the construction of numerous baroque towers of Bavaria." en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Basilica_of_SS._Ulrich_and_Afra,_Au...

This onion tower was built in 1594. The construction of the church had already begun in 1467 in late gothic style, but was repeatedly interrupted due to religious disputes. It was not until 1607 that the church was finally consecrated. de.wikipedia.org/wiki/St._Ulrich_und_Afra_(Augsburg)

The dominating seven story 30 meter high main Pagoda of Ten Thousand Buddhas in the Kok Lok Si Temple complex, combines Chinese (octagonal base), Thai ( middle tier) and Burmese (crown) elements. It is located in the Penang capital George Town at the foothill of the Air Itam mountain.

This full-sized hummingbird can be found in various parts of Central America as well as upper South America. I only found this species in one of spot in Honduras--Pico Bonito in the east of that country. Funny how a particular hummingbird will dominate in a particular area.

I'm not sure how this bird gained the moniker 'Jacobin' instead of the simpler White-necked Hummingbird. Students of history will remember, though, that the Jacobins were radicals that sprang up following the French Revolution and formed the Reign of Terror along with Robespierre.

The White-necked Jacobin has a reputation as a brawler and a bully that will aggressively chase off other hummingbirds, even female WNJ's. The female of this species will even form the appearance of the males to protect itself from aggression.

From Oh! Point looking south and east, the view is dominated by magnificent mountains forming the Continental Divide. But if the gaze is lowered, one sees a different terrain, rounded and polished by glaciers, and today dotted with marshes, ponds and lakes.

Breckenridge Mountain dominates the view to the northwest after crossin the summit on the Caliente Bodfish road near Oiler Peak in Kern County, California. The lower summit on the mountain is called the Hole In The Mountain. Breckenridge Mountain lies in the Greenhorn Mountains which is part of the southern Sierra Nevada Range. Oak trees grow near the road while the mountainsides are dominated by pinyon pine.

As all of my cameras were pointed towards the supercell showing all that rotation. I really didn't pay attention to the storm that was coming in from the due north, until I paused to look that way.

2nd Storm was almost on top of my location. Luckily it was moving to the southeast & that meant I had a little time before the storm moved directly over.

This 2nd storm was outflow dominate. Producing this incredibly photogenic shelf cloud as in slow crept toward the city of Kearney.

This storm just kept getting photographically better by the minute. I had to flip 180s for a few mins as both storms was producing some insane storm photography!

These statues are part of an art exhibition in Budapest.

The New World Design for Contemporary Art presents almost 600sqm of the world of the Great War, which can be seen as the epoch that radically changed the world order of the time: the formerly stable empires have dissolved, culture and public thought have changed dramatically. World War II buried the old world, the result of a new world conflagration and then the Cold War. Europe was bleak in the twilight that the 20th century was dominated by America and Russia.

The exhibition takes visitors from happy peace to enthusiasm for war and bitter disappointment. It shows how the civilization of civilized and global warfare was fought, how the 19th century came to a standstill and the hinterland became the battlefield. The nature of war has changed: victory has now become a function of the amount of war material.

* The Gold Coast is a coastal city in the Australian state of Queensland. It is on the eastern side of the country. The Gold Coast is a major tourist destination with a sunny, subtropical climate and has become widely known for its world-class surfing beaches, high-rise dominated skyline, theme parks, nightlife, and rainforest hinterland. The city is part of the nation's entertainment industry with television productions and a major film industry.

It has adopted the name "Surfer's Paradise" because of its excellent surfing conditions and annual surfing competitions.

Mt. Horn (404 m) in Snæfellsnes in W-Iceland. The geology here is dominated by a rock-type that is formed in volcanic eruptions under glacier - such eruptions produce a subglacial "soup" of water, ash and bits of rock, that sink to the bottom, and later gets cemented into a hard rock resembling sandstone. The geological term for this is hyaloclastite, a rare rock type that could be said to be volcanic, sedimentary and metamorphic.

Fog dominated Cape Lookout as if often does, creating a rather ethereal scene.

The end of a scorching summer’s day is marked by the sun slowly sinking below the horizon at Lhen Beach on the north west coast of the Isle of Man. I positioned my tripod just above the surface of the Lhen Trench as it flowed down to meet the sea. The low angle allowed the water to dominate the foreground of the shot which was necessary due to the cloudless sky above. I wanted to capture a simple minimalistic image which captured the warmth of the beautiful summer weather we have been enjoying 🌅

A chilly autumn sunrise at 9100'. Lake Sabrina was formed in 1907 when the Nevada California Electric Company dammed Bishop Creek to create hydroelectric power for eastern California.

The Eastern Sierra range is pretty country year-round. In autumn its high density of quaking aspens create a colorful scene for photographers. At first light, however, there is very little color variation, with blues and greys dominating the palette.

Had to find a better place due to where the storm was coming in from. I had reposition myself right next to the High School football field. Long extended ditch that has a small roadway. Couldn't have asked for a better open sky than this.

This storm was moving rather slowly about 10 mph to the due north almost northwest. Outflow dominate, simply meaning this had nice outflow. A shelf cloud on the outer rim of this storm as it approached. B E A U T I F U L!

nearly 1000m over the sea - wind and weather dominate the nature.

During the recent trip to South Wales I took advantage off the geography and headed under the Severn to Bristol for a long anticipated trip along the branch to Severn Beach.

The place definitely has an off-grid feel about it and, unsurprisingly, seems to beat to the rhythm of the tidal Severn estuary which dominates the landscape - along with the Prince of Wales Bridge crossing lying less than a mile upstream. Add to that a legacy of industrial and shipping infrastructure in the area - some still used, and some abandoned.

Helpfully, the turnaround of the train I arrived on was a decent 37 minutes - ample time to take a few photographs and partake of tea and a bacon butty at Shirley's Cafe just around the corner. Not enough time to explore the place with serious intent however - that will have to wait for another visit.

(Re-post - from the archives)

Jutland, Jylland in Danish, is a peninsula to the west in the Danish geography. The coast to the west has helped much in forming the landscape - making the are along the area dominated by sand-dunes and heaths. The landscape is very flat and in some areas marshy too. The most northern part of Jutland, north of the Limfjord, was separated from the mainland by a flooding in 1825, making it technically an island - but it is still regarded as a part of Jutland.

Jutland, Jylland, was in the middle ages called "Iutland" - the land of the jyder. That word in turn probably comes from the word iuthær, meaning men. The Greek geographer called it Kimbrikē chersonēsos - the peninsula of the Cimbri - saying it was the home of the Teutons, Cimbri and Charudes.

The area is now one of the more sparsely populated regions of Denmark, and the Jutlandic dialect is famous for being hard to understand, even among Danes, especially in the western and northern parts of the peninsula.

Dominating the skyline at Trafalgar is Nelson's Column, probably one of the most famous landmarks of London.
